So how much do braces cost?

Mine were $4800. Ins covered $1500 of it then we paid half the remainder up front and then with no interest through our ortho we make payments directly to him for 18 months.


It is So worth it for me though Im so happy with how they look allready! I cant believe the change. I have 13 more months till they come off or maybe sooner because the ortho says I " Have very obedient teeth"

My ortho has a really nice office too. A plasma screen TV in the waiting room, old arcade games ( all free) and a bunch of other cool stuff for the kids. Its really neat! Cam Begs to go to there with me when I have my appointments

DD had her braces on in June. Cost a little over $5000.00

We went the dentist that "all the kids" go to. Came highly recommended by kids and adults that also had braces.

I would get a few opinions if possible. My kids did not get braces until they were older. Both of them have friends that got them at a younger age and then had to get them again when they were older. This also happened to my niece. DD is 15 and has had hers for about a year. DS was around the same age. DS is now 20 and his teeth are fine.

Thanks for making this thread, I was thinking about making the same one. My DS will most likely need braces soon. We don't have dental insurance and do not have the money to pay up front so my question is...do they let you do payment plans or finance? Do you have to call around to individual ortho's and ask if they allow payment plans? The thought of me having to do that is kind of embarassing honestly

Don't be embarrassed, I'm sure that they are asked and expect this question from parents. With our ortho, there were 3 options: pay cash (get discount), finance through another company or make monthly installments after making an initial deposit. If I recall, the initial deposit was $1400 or $1500 and then the monthly payment was somewhere between $150 and $175 for 18 months.

I am in north metro Atlanta. DD's 1st set of braces cost $1800 (she was 9); her second set of braces cost $3900 (she was 16 - we got 10% discount for paying in total up front).

DS braces (just put on this summer at age of 15) were $3900 (using same ortho - he gave us "family" discount).

DS age 9 to be evaluated for braces next month (was born with cleft lip and may have some physical, not cosmetic, need for braces).

This is a very timely thread for me, as both my kids went to the dentist yesterday and my dd 8, got a referral for an initial evaluation by the Orthodontist. Thank goodness my 11 yr old ds has perfectly straight teeth! She is only 8, but all her baby teeth are gone, except one and it has no roots left, so it will be gone any day now.

Thank you all so much for your input! The costs, however, are and our insurance doesn't cover much. Now I just need to find a good (and cheaper!) orthodontist! Right now, both kids are really excited about getting braces. Ha! That will change...

That's the truth. I got mine when I was 12. I was thrilled. After the first 4 years, I was starting to get sick of them.

I *think* my braces were about 3k, I still have them on. I made monthly, no interest payments to my ortho directly and paid it off that way. My insurance, at the time, covered about $700, I think.

My brother was at the same ortho, and his costed less than me, so I know that he does vary costs depending upon how much work you have.

My cost is all inclusive of all visits, items, etc. I will never pay another dime to him. Thank goodness.

Oh - I also had to have 4 teeth pulled before getting them on by my dentist, and had to pay that $$ too. So keep in mind they might need some pulled.

My DS got his put on last spring. They cost us $4200. The insurance only paid for a $1000. Our regular dentist referred us to the ortho that he recommends.

Right about $4000. Each. Times two. Once the braces came off of one, they went on another. We were on the EZ Pay monthly plan for 4 years.

I can't believe how much braces cost now! I take my DD12 for the 1st of 3 consultations with 3 diff ortho's tomorrow morning. Probably about the time she gets hers off DD9 will be ready for hers. ARGH!!!!

I just heard from my DW Sue about DD Sarah's brand new braces. The total cost will be $2500. And it appears that our dental insurance will pick up some of that cost. Somehow I don't recall DS James' braces costing as much.

Braces were just over $5,000 for each of my boys. Our insurance (combining both mine and my husbands-$1,000 each) covered $2,000 for each. So, our total out of pocket expense was around $3,000 apiece.
