So how did YOUR snow turn out?

We got 8 inches, which is now crusted over due to sleet/freezing rain this evening. We've spent the day sledding, four-wheeling, making a 6 foot snowman, having snowball fights, and generally having a ball!:goodvibes
We're out of school again tomorrow. . . roads are still horrible, even though the DOT is working on it constantly. We're a county in the foothills, so with the temps not supposed to get above about 35 until SUNDAY and lots of mountainous back roads, we could possibly miss most of the week. I'm a teacher, but I won't minds making up the days. We get snow like this so rarely! 4 inches on Christmas Day, and now this. . .turning out to be a fun winter here in NE Georgia!!:thumbsup2

We only got 6-8 here. Not too much snow so far this year.

Glad you are enjoying, and hopefully everyone is safe.

Oddly, and I am AFRAID to jinx this, we have only received one GIANT snowstorm to date. As of last week, we were down to grass. We have a little dusting daily, but nothing major (yet), so the grass is slightly buried.

We usually have wicked winters, and recent years our worst storms were very late in the season, March, April, even May

Of course it is way too cold to snow. We are in the midst of a deep freeze here, very high windshield's and I hope that eases some.

We got 6 inches here in Mississippi! This is coming from a place that hardly ever sees snow. We also had a white Christmas this year for the first time since around the 60s or something crazy like that. Apparently we have entered the twilight zone!

The kids had a BLAST. We enjoyed it as much as we could because I know there is a strong possibility my kids won't see snow like this again (at least not where we live) until they are adults. The last time I saw this much snow was when I was about 3 years old and living in a completely different state. School was canceled today and tomorrow and so was work. We are in the South so the whole state comes to a stand still if we get snow or ice but I am not complaining! It was great!!

We made a snowman. Well, sort of...we got the really extra fine powdery stuff so the snow man was a little hard to do but we made one. We made snow angels and snow cream and had a snow ball fight, etc.

That sounds like an absolutely fantastic time!!!!!! Take lots of pictures.

I swear some of the southern states have more snow than we have here. We finally got some today that actually accumulated. If only we got off of school when there was a couple inches.

I know, I always get a chuckle reading that some schools are closed for 2 DAYS! for 4" of snow. :rotfl: We're expecting another 6 to 8 inches on top of snow we already have, and, chances are, schools will be in session.

But, for States that aren't used to it, the driving can be even more hazardous. Some of us, on the other hand, have wayyy too much practice driving in the snow. :rotfl:

I know , right? Chicagoland here....DS is a Junior in HS and I *think* has ha maybe 3 snow days his entire school career, and 1 of those was due to busses not being able to be on the roads, only 4 or so inches so that was a weird fluke :confused3. It is spitting snowflakes now, but only about 4-2-4 predicted for us...just enough to be irritating and make rush hour a mess. Don't you wish we could get a sudden "beach" storm? Where we get the ocean, sand, palm trees and school and work were closed? How sweet would THAT be?

Yes, we must've entered the Twilight Zone because here in Milwaukee we didn't even get a white Christmas! I know there were other parts of the state that had more snow but we had nothing. Every time they said there was going to be snow nothing happened.

I think the first time the district where my sisters and I went to school had a snow day, I was already in college and my sisters were in high school! Seriously, we NEVER get snow days! Though we did get a cold day a couple years ago because with the wind chill it was something like -40.

I'm north of Atlanta and we had 5-6 inches of snow. School is closed today and it doesn't appear we will be going back to school tomorrow either. The problem in the South is they don't have the equipment to deal with the snow. The roads are covered in ice and with the freezing temps and freezing rain coming, it doesn't look good for the next few days. The weatherman this morning was predicting not going back to school until Friday!

We still have a foot or so on the ground, so not looking forward to the 12 - 18 inches we're expecting to have added by tomorrow morning.:sad2:

PICTURES PEOPLE !!! LOL , I need my snow fix , I miss it !!

We got 8 inches. I almost at ran over sledding down the hill because the new neighbor which is from up north thought he could get down the hill. Crazy. He wondering why school is close. LOL The kids is a sleep. Knowing full well there's no school tomorrow.

I live near main road it has not been plow yet.

No school or work for nobody tomorrow. It turning int ice now. That is not good.

That is because up north it takes a LOT more than 8" to close schools :lmao:.

We got about 4" yesterday, I don't know that they will even plow it. It came down pretty slowly and is pretty fluffy so most of it is just blowing off the roads.

Here in Central Va we've gotten about 1 inch so far. All schools are closed. Our county is one that always closes for snow. We're west of Richmond, and have very few snow days built into the calendar, which makes no sense. Makes it a pain to plan vacation at the end of the school year. Richmond and Henrico and Chesterfield look like they're getting freezing rain, which is hard to drive in so I can see why they're closed.

We are supposed to get the snow starting around midnight tonight. Originally my forecast started as a dusting, then 3-6 and now depending on the station it is 10-15inches or 13-17inches. The Monday after Christmas we got 20inches which all melted. A few days ago we got just a little but it has been colder so it has stuck around on curbs etc. We will wait until we see if it is fun snow to play in vs an icey snow to see if we enjoy time outside or inside.

My dd is in 5th grade and seldom gets a snow day maybe about 3 in 5 years. However the timing of this snow may actually work out for a late entry day. Tomorrow is already a prescheduled monthly early release day so I can just see it school from 10:30 to 12:30 with most of the kids not bothering to come in.

We have 4" of ICE on the interstates. Nobody's going anywhere.

it just started about noon here but the kids are hoping for a snow day tomorrow.

don't know about the interstates but the rest of the roads are also covered with ice. Dh went out to see if he would be able to get to work tomorrow and said there's no way. We live in a very rural area, they only plow the main roads. The side roads are one lane, winding, and hilly. He says the road we live on, plus the road that our road is off of, are still 90% covered in ice and snow. The main road isn't much better. The parts that are clear will refreeze tonight, since our high is about 32 today. The schools will either be closed or have delayed opening tomorrow, probably closed. Unfortunately, the district I work in is an hour south and didn't get hit as hard. They will probably open on time tomorrow and I'll be on the phone convincing the new principal that I really do need to come in late because our roads are still a mess.

edited to add: I was wrong! My district is closed tomorrow to! Called someone who lives there and they're iced over to. Nice to be off, but not so great when we've got to make up all the days. Our highs aren't predicted to be above freezing until Fri. or Sat. so we may be out all week!

We are expecting to get 12-18" here on Long Island starting tonight. The school most likely will close as the snow will be heavy all night through the morning & they won't run the school buses if it is too snowy or icy. My daughter is thrilled....me not so much :rotfl:
