So how did your portfolio do today?

I did not gain or lose. That won't happen until I buy or sell

Or you move out of the country (though since US taxes on citizenship, may not apply). For Canadians, if you emigrate, you have to "pretend" to sell off everything and pay capital gains based on the date you left Canada. So, during a correction (to the Canadian markets) is a good time to move.

Like others, I didn't bother to look. I'm in the long (ish) haul, so I worry about trends and try not to panic over small tips (or get too excited about small jumps).

This is a really weird drop in the market. Supposedly, it is being blamed on the economy running so strong suddenly (and fears of inflation because of it). It will bounce back. it always has, even in 1929 when the sky fell.

Not weird. Normal. The market has been running well ahead of fundamentals for a long while. It was due for a correction. The question is how big of a "correction" will it make. Smallish (15-20% overall) or something worse.

DH has been watching closely,I think he said he moved 30% a week ago. He is 10+ years away from retirement.

I agree. Normal.
Good news is bad news for the Dow. Interest rates have been near historic lows for several years. Companies handing out bonuses left and right. Employment up. That sparks fears of inflation and interest rate hikes.
Investors can be as nervous as a Chihuahua.

Yes, the little guys getting a bigger share of the pie is bad for the fat cats, apparently. Seems twisted. But, that's the logic. LOL.

Surprise if the new tax code hasn't changed you will be subject to tax the only way around it is to renounce your U S citizenship

If you are investing long term this would be time to buy. Long term is up

I'm not American - I'm Canadian. Hence, I said "For Canadians...". Unlike the US (and Eritrea) we tax on residency, not citizenship. Though there are some issues (e.g. having property) where you may still be a resident for tax purposes, even if you don't live in Canada.

And, yes, now is a good time for long term investments.

Well, Corporations as just groups of little guys.

We have lost about $60000 through yesterday, but have been up more than that over the last few months.
