So how did you like Harry Potter 5? ***Beware Spoilers***

One last comment, if anyone is still reading:Did anyone else expect Luna Lovegood to turn out to be a werewolf? Perhaps it the name, but I thought the end would reveal this to be true.
That is an interesting idea. I'll have to keep that in mind when I reread the book.

I think Snape could have tipped off Dumbledore about Volde targeting the Potters, because in book 3, JK writes that Snape saves Harry because James once saved Snape and he feels he owes James. He could have been looking out for James by warning Dumbledore, and continues to look out for Harry.

I can't get past seeing the similarities between Snape and James' relationship and Malfoy and Harry's relationship. Both are Slytherin vs. Gryffindor, and Snape seems to have taken Draco under his wing, like when he suggests that Draco battle against Harry instead of Ron in the demonstration in the dueling club in book 2. Also how Snape calls Lily a mudblood and Draco calls Hermione one. Of course Lily and James do later marry, maybe foreshadowing of a relationship between Harry and Hermione? I hope not, she belongs with Ron!

...I think Umbridge should have been left in the woods with the centaurs, not back at the hospital wing, sort a staring into space! Oooohhh, and that quill of hers! Yukkkkk!!!

I also think that Harry is gonna go back to that veil to try to get in touch with Sirius....

I wish they'd found out the results of their O.W.L.'s...the beginnings of the next book???!?!?

What I want to know is why Umbridge is not in Azkaban! After all, she sent two dementors to go after 2 children, one of them a Muggle with no powers! Seems worthy of some serious time in Azkaban, to me!

It took me longer to read the 9 pages on this thread than it did to read HP! Overall, I really liked it - Even the Angst! Prisoner of Azkaban is still my Favorite - But probably b/c I like to be misled (Siruis Black - His name just sounds evil - How could he turn out to be good?) and Time Travel also astounds me!

OK - Here's a new one - I was certain - all the way until the Final Battle Scene - that Luna Lovegood was actually Tonks! I'm not sure why I thought it, but I just had a suspicion. Maybe it was the Shapeshifter part & Luna was almost too weird to be real - or maybe I just really liked Tonks & wanted her to be in it more!

I loved the action sequence of the Final Battle - I could just "see" everything in my mind like it was on the movie Screen! I had no problems following it!

I was glad to see Lockhart at St Mungro's! He was hilarious & tragic at the same time! JKR can really make some villains! Even if Lockhart wasn't 1/100th as Evil as Umbridge! Definite YUCK on that Quill!

I was fairly certain that it was Dumbledore who was going to die in this book. Mainly b/c he wasn't in it very much & it seemed as if she was trying to "write him out" or something. I was very glad that he explained everything to Harry (and Us) at the end as to why he was being so standoffish.

I loved that it was a Trelawney Prophecy that had Voldemort so worried! It's the little ways that EVERYTHING seems to tie back together that makes this whole series wonderful!

I am also hoping that by mentioning that Auror training is 3 additional years, JKR was hinting at 3 more books! I know Harry is going to be an Auror - After he takes care of Voldemort of course!

Well, we finally finished the book. I read it aloud to DS and it was fun. I am completely devastated that Sirius died. He was one of my favorites, and (you may think I am crazy if you want) I think Sirius is a "hottie"!!! Can't wait to see him in the movie.

There was so much stuff in this book that was great. I think I may have to reread the books, I don't think I will be very patient while waiting for the next book.....

...wonder if Firenze is gonna have a "bigger" role in the next book, beings he can't go back to the forest!!!

Hiya,

Not even sure what page of the CB this thread was on as I found it in a search! I couldn't read it back when you all started it cos' Id not read the book... but I've just finished it and just finished all nine pages of this thread! What interesting comments!!!

Wanted to add mine, even if you've all got bored of the topic by now (yeah right LOL)...

* Firstly, lets get this straight: Ron and Hermione. Definitely!

* I don't think Sirius is really dead, or else at least he'll come back some how. I just don't think killing off the one person Harry really felt a proper 'family' link to is right! Didn't JK say she 'had' to kill the person she kills? What would be the point? Unless she had to kill him so he can come back from the dead and... and well... erm... not sure what but he's got a part to play!!

* I was sad at Sirius' death but in all honesty I thought the saddest parts of this book were Mrs Weasley and the Boggart (I really thought Ron was dead!!!) and in St Mungo's when Neville's Mum gave him that bubblegum wrapper and he kept it... :( :( :(

* Umbridge - I feel sorry for the actress who gets cast as her, not cos' everyone will hate her so much (what a great character she was to hate!) but because of all the unappealing references to her 'looking like a toad' (of which, IMO, there were a few too many but anyways...)

* Fred and George - What can I say? They have always been the only characters who have made me laugh out loud in these books (don't get me wrong I've loved all the other humour, but couldn't stop myself with these two!) and their leaving was classic. Brilliantly written piece.

* I feel that JK almost damaged Harry as a character with all the raw anger at the beginning and elsewhere in the book. I know it's indicative of his age and everything but he was such a spoilt little brat at times! The main thing about Harry has often been not how good he is at magic but that he loves his friends fiercely and this didn't always come out so much...

* Finally, and this is just my own humble opinion (so please no flames) but it really seemed like JK was either forced or felt that she *had* to make this an incredibly long book. So many things were repeated (Umbridge inspecting lessons, Harry's dreams of a corridor etc) she just seemed to be dragging it out for no apparent reason. I think that the same story could have been told, and better (IMO), with a shorter (around book 4 or maybe even 3 proportions) book.

That said, I really enjoyed it and looking forward to the next one but not in the way book 4 made me look forward to book 5 but in the just wanting to know what happens next kinda way (if that makes any sense whatsoever!)

Well there you go then! Sorry for the long post, I had much more I coulda said but guess I'll leave it at that!

Cya,
Gaspode

I finished the book but hadn't read this thread yet.

As far as couples I think it will be Ron & Hermione and Harry & Ginny but wouldn't expect that to happen anytime soon. Ron & Hermione have that love/hate thing going on and now that Ginny has gotten over her puppy love Harry can get to know her and maybe fall for her. Not sure where Neville & Luna fit in and I think they will continue to be major players.

I do think there is more to Neville and he will become a major part in the fall of Voldemort. Wondered if they could all have the prophecy a little wrong and it is really Neville after all and not Harry but not sure how that fits. I think his parents might recover also, possibly when Voldemort falls.

It will be a long wait.

Oooh, I have been longing to talk about this book. So glad I found this thread. If this has been said before sorry, but this is what I think:

Ron and Hermione – definitely. Hermione will treat Ron just like Mrs. Weasley treats Mr. Weasley, but she’ll do it from some exalted position at the Ministry of Magic.

Harry and Ginny – felt this from the moment Ginny was introduced back in book 2(?). I love how she has evolved in this book. Glad to see Cho go, although nicely handled by JK Rowling.

Harry and Snape – Okay this may be unpopular, but I have an uncomfortable feeling that Dumbledore will be dead by the end of book 7 and Snape will become Harry’s Dumbledore/Sirius replacement. I wish she’d developed this just a bit more in this book, although now it’s something to look forward to.

Fred and George – Mark my words, they will be key in the downfall of Voldemort from some unxious(sp) snout-growing fizzy drink

Neville – I knew he had it in him. I love the idea that he may still somehow be “the one” – oh, no sorry, that’s the Matrix. “the guy” – oh, no sorry, that’s SpyKids. “the equal”(!?) Go Neville!

Harry’s future – Not an auror. I think he will teach Defense against the Dark Arts at Hogworts, eventually becoming Headmaster.

Umbridge – The announcement of her engagement to Grawp will be printed in The Quibbler in Book 7. Double wedding with Hagrid and Madame Maxine.

Sirius – I’ve heard that JK Rowling has said he will not be back. I don’t know if this is rumor or fact, but am prepared for it. I was very disappointed she killed him off; he’s my favorite character. I really think Harry suffered far too much in this book. I agree with those people who said it wasn’t as sad as when Cedric died; I just don’t think she wrote it as strongly. At first, I didn’t get it.

Okay, I could go on, but this is long enough. To sum up: not her strongest book, but she’s left enough teasers to leave me anxiously waiting for Book 6.

LOL. I'd better renew my subscription to The Quibbler. I wouldn't want to miss that story.:teeth:
