We are going in January and taking my DFIL (hopefully!!). We are planning on staying in a 1 bedroom and he would have the living room . Will he be comfortable on the pull out sofa? The only experience I have with oull out sofas include memories of a steel bar in the back. Tell me they are better!

Thanks!

Never having slept in one, but having brought adult guests with us who did...

Some are good, some are bad. The two times they've been with us, the first time they complained (a bit) about the sofa bed - bar in the back. The second time they said it was much more comfortable. I'm thinking that the first time it was probably an older one that has been used lots, and the second time a newer one that hasn't had the matress compacted as much.

Even the first one wasn't that bad. They didn't refuse to sleep on it or anything. If you don't normally have problems with sofa beds, you should be fine.

well being 6 feet 300 pounds i can assure you that the sofa bed is surprisingly comfortable.....the only suggestion i would give is to bring a pillow....what they supply you with could only be described a s a 1 inch piece of foam with a pillow case:p

I stayed with a friend at BWV and slept on the sofa bed. I found it to be very comfortable.

I have had a variety of people from teenagers up to a senior citizen sleep on the sofa bed at BWV and no one has ever complained and when I have asked them how they slept they have always said just fine.
I did sleep on a sofa bed at OKW once that did not look old at all but the bar was very uncomfortable on my back. The second night I put one of the big sofa cushions under the mattress and I slept just fine.
With sofabeds if they are not folded up properly or you have kids jumping on them the bar gets bent which causes the bar to hit you in the back, so a lot of times it is not that the sofabed is old it has not been taken care of properly.
All in all, I would say the sofabeds at DVC are very comfortable and of good quality.

The sleeping part on the pullouts is fine, it's the pulling out part that is uncomfortable.

We just got back from a stay in a 2BR at VWL and we used the sofa beds in both rooms. The frames on both were bent and pulling them out or puttting them in was a little difficult I'm not sure what people are doing to them, but don't pull to hard or you will throw your back out. ;)

I don't know about sleeping on the pull-out, but I sure know that sitting on the sofa in our GV at HHI was not too comfey - my 5 y.o. DS said, "Mom, why is this couch so hard?" :p

I have slept on the pullouts in OKW. I think they are much better than your average pullout bed. I believe they are FlexSteel brand which make some of the better sleeper sofa's. If I were ever going to buy a sleeper sofa again it would be a FlexSteel. Of course no sleeper sofa really matches a good mattress, but I certainly haven't lost any sleep on the OKW sleeper sofas.

We had the same problem with the sofa bed at OKW earlier this month. I have a hard enough time opening the sleeper because I'm short, but this one was so bent that I couldn't open it. Even my husband had problems getting it open. And it made a horrible thunk when it was folded back up. I felt sorry for the people downstairs, but there was no other way to put it back without the noise. We've used the sofa bed at OKW every trip since '94 and this was the first time we saw one in such bad shape. It really makes me wonder what the heck people are doing to them!

I slept in a sofa bed when my family and I stayed at BWV. I found the bed to be very comfortable. It, in my opinion, was more comfortable then the bed itself!

Sorry to be contrary, but we just stayed in a one bedroom at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge and the sofa bed was hard and uncomfortable to sit on when it was a couch, and uncomfortable to lay on when it was a bed.

I share one w/my sister when we stayed at the Disney Institue in 2000. It was very comfy. Granted we were tired when we went to bed at night!

Felt the metal bar across my back the entire night at BWV. Awful.

My brother slept on one in a BWV studio last year. He was so miserable he finally pulled the mattress and put it on the floor.

We have had many OKW adult guests who have used the pull out sofas, and no one has had a bad experience yet. Our son ( who is 6'4" and LARGE prefers to just sleep on the sofa without pulling it out. It isn't because of the comfort though! He is just TOO LAZY to pull it out and put it away!!

Thanks everyone for the information. It looks like Dad has a good chance of comfy. Now, i just have to convince him it will be great to go! We are staying at the BCV so we have a decent chance of an unbent bedframe!
