So happy about the pin and now so MAD! -- UPDATE

First, I want to say I talked with a Disney specialist at Travel Guard; there is a difference.

Since Travel Guard doesn't sell the insurance directly to you; it's Disney's call for date changes and transferring the Travel Guard policy to your new dates. Travel Guard gets involved with Disney insurance only if there is a claim or questions about coverage, then they will help you directly.

I continued to ask that same rep what's Travel Guard's policy if you bought direct from them on this matter and she said they are flexible with date changes, as long as, it's in writing from the person making the change in dates. The Travel Guard rep said you must deal with Disney on date changes for their insurance; even if, the actual insurance is from Travel Guard. Disney controls that end, not Travel Guard. Also, she said if you cancel your Disney trip then the trip insurance is cancelled and not refundable or subject to cancellation fees.

So, again I want to say don't cancel your Disney reservation if you want to keep the travel insurance and not lose it. You must modify your reservation with Disney for date changes and have Disney transfer the trip insurance with the modification for the new dates.

All paper work from Disney for your trip confirmation includes a statement about trip insurance coverage in it. I would make sure it's there on any modifications made and keep your old paper work for proof on having trip insurance to begin with.

I'm not going to beat a dead horse here and until I actually do it myself I won't know 100% if this is correct or not. All, I can say is two, Disney CMs said this was okay today with changing dates and keeping your trip insurance. What else can one do?

I'm not saying a Disney travel insurance company. I'm talking about the insurance you get from Disney direct through their channels. If this is Travel Guard; so, be it. I will call Travel Guard after the weekend and I will ask them the same questions. I will post at that time what they have to say about it.

I was told by the CM that they would just change my dates for the insurance if I had a change in dates for the trip. I tried two separate CMs on this question and both gave me the same answer that you could change. If I call Disney to make my changes and I don't call Travel Guard for my date changes this should work. Also, I don't call Travel Guard to buy the insurance; I call Disney; so, they should know how this works. I'll take it one step further with Travel Guard to make double sure it's correct from what I'm getting from Disney.

Insurance is purchased for a set of dates. If you change dates, you have to buy new insurance. If you add a night or remove a night thats fine, if you change by a night or 2 guest services can usually change the insurance dates. If you move dates by more then a few days you CAN NOT modify the insurance dates

I was told twice the same information. I could drop a week or add a week to my reservation without a problem whatsover for the travel insurance, as long as, I do a modification of my original reservation. You can't cancel and rebook; that's when you get into problems. When you cancel an existing reservation you cancel everything!

Also, I asked in general about changing dates by 4 months or 6 months and I was told this was okay, too.

I think the best thing everyone can do is go direct to a CM at Disney and explain their specific requirements and try it if they need to do this for their trip.

I'm not going to debate this topic anymore. I spent about two hours researching this out and I'm done. I went to reliable resources to get my answers, here. If I need to change my own dates then I'll report back here my results. Will the same people who are disagreeing will you please call Disney and get it from the horse's mouth. If there's still disagreement then I'll pursue it with a supervisor at Disney.

I do know there's a Terms and Conditions pamphlet available about Disney's travel insurance and maybe this topic is covered there. I'm going to try and get a copy of this pamphlet. I'm done for now.

I may have an update on this tomorrow. We did some e-mailing and calling and used some of the advice given on here. I'm just waiting for confirmation from Disney to see if things are planned the way they are supposed to be. I will write an update to let you know as soon as I can. :)

Okay, so you'd think I'd be ecstatic that we've changed our dates, but I have to say I'm really nervous. I've heard so many conflicting things about what the crowds will be like, but I want to see the Christmas stuff and the cooler weather is a plus, so here's hoping.... :cheer2:

Well, first my DH had sent off an e-mail to Disney explaining the situation and that there was nothing stated about changing dates, only canceling. Disney sent back the generic e-mail. DH said we'd just wait for a little bit, even after I told him the advice given in this thread. Disney eventually called, while we were out, of course, and left a message that they would help us with our dates. :thumbsup2 We were hopeful. This was playing with my emotions, however, because I had resigned myself to September and convinced myself it was the better time to go. We called back and told the person who called via voicemail to call us back. We didn't receive a call back. Finally, last night, DH was in the mood to give it another go. He called and said he wanted to MODIFY our current reservation. Without batting an eye, the CM moved our dates to the beginning of December for us with the pin code for free dining!

We received our updated trip information the next morning, and it does have the trip insurance listed in there as part of our package. I am so excited, but like I said, nervous too. Of course, this means I have to wait longer to get back to Disney, but hopefully it will be worth it. :cool1:

So, Disney did call back and leave another message earlier today, not realizing we'd already got it all straightened out.

So, it really does matter who you talk to. Thanks for the great advice you all gave me! :thumbsup2

I guess I need to add a bunch of days to my trip ticker!

I really hope this works out for you but a side note- a CM can NOT change the dates of the travel insurance. Guest services has to do it. The CM may just have changed the dates of the trip and left the insurance for the original dates, not even thinking about it
