I look forward to Dole Whip on every trip, and go for everything from the dole floats to the twists to the spears, but at the MK on 1/ 8 I got a vanilla and pineapple twist right when the booth opened, and it tasted strange. I walked back over to the counter and told the server about the problem. The second server said, "yes, we were concerned because a couple of the pieces of the machine were missing this morning when we opened up, and we are trying to find out who closed." The first server tasted some of the vanilla straight from a cup, and goffed, "Oh god" and dumped it out. I started feeling sick that I'd had a few bites. They gave me my money back but I was a little worried over the next several hours that I might come down with food poisoning. I didn't (phew!) but I'm not sure I'm going to be too excited about going there again. I still wonder what it meant that the pieces were missing. The vanilla tasted like old milk.

When I was in High School, I used to work at a Carvel. When we closed at night, we had to take the machine apart and wash it down. The front part where the ice cream comes out has all these peices. We had the wash them in hot water, dry them and reassemble the machine for the morning crew. While one person was doing that, there was another using a long hose and running hot water to clean the insides out. I am guessing if the machine wasn't cleaned properly, the ice cream would taste sour. If peices were missing, the ice cream may not have frozen properly. Now this is going back about 20 years (God! did I really just say that? :confused3 )so the machines may have changed a bit.

That is horrible tho. Don't you hate it when you really look forward to somthing and it doesn't have that perfect feel to it?

Thanks for the info...that gives me a much clearer idea of what might have happened :flower:

Terrible experience, Glad to hear you did'nt get sick from it. I can imagine that prolly dampered your appetite for the day.

I'm so sorry that happened to you! As someone who eagerly anticipates the next Dole Whip  I can imagine how bad you felt.

Yikes! I'm also a Dole WHip lover & that would be awful!.....

But for those of you who may worry about this happening to them, fear not, Dole Whip is a non-dairy product, made from powder & water & it won't go bad......

Enjoy Your Dole Whips!

Anything with sugar in it can grow bacteria... So, a Dole Whip can't 'spoil' like a dairy product would, but it can be loaded with bacteria if the machine ws not cleaned properly.
