We want to try Vero Beach for a few nights during our Summer 2012 trip. I wasn't very optimistic about my 7-month booking chances for the weekend after 4th of July, so I checked CRO for availability. Before hitting the "book" button, though, I decided to give Member Services a call to ask about a discounted cash booking. The cast member I talked to didn't even do a search, but told me discounted reservations don't show up in the system until the 7 month point. He told me to call back then.
I've never booked cash nights through DVC MS, so I almost bought that. But not quite -- there was a little twinge of doubt in my mind. My "does he know what he's talking about?" warning light was flashing in the back of my mind. I decided to hit re-dial and ask another cast member the same question. 30 minutes later, I have my discounted cash booking -- the exact room and nights I was looking at on the CRO site for $400 less. I'm so glad I decided to give the big ol' Cast Member Roulette Wheel another spin.
Its sad that past experience and stories here on the boards have taught me to always take things Member Services tells me with a grain of salt.
