I offered a honeymoon trip using my DVC points to my son and his fiance for August. They decided they wanted to go to Hilton Head. Not being a HHI owner I had to wait for the 7 month window. I called at 9 am yesterday which was the seven month window for Sunday, August 9th. No dice for studio or one bedroom, looking for a room 9-14th. The CM told me that she did have availabilities for the 10th-13th in both studio and one bedroom, but I would have to call today since the 7 month window didn't open until then. I call again this morning right at 9 am and no availabilities for one bdr or studio.

I waitlisted for the 10-13th for either a one bedroom or studio thinking I might have a better chance of not including Sunday night. If that comes through I'll try waitlisting for days on both ends of the reservation. Is this the best route to go? Any tips you can give me in trying to better my chances in getting the waitlisted room? I know this is a prime season for HHI, I sure hope I can get something to come through.

My son told me if I couldn't get the entire stay that it would be fine and they may stay a night or two in Charleston.

For that week I'd be surprised if the WL didn't come through.

I agree with Dean. There is still a lot of time for the waitlist to work for you. The biggest problem is the small number of Studios and 1BRs at the resort - only 21 of each. You might have better luck getting a 2BR since there are far more of those. HH is always very busy during the summer months.

Good luck with the waitlist! :)

I'm going to have to hope that a 1BDR or studio comes through, I really don't have the points for a 2bdr. Thanks for the reply.

You might consider trying for an exchange to Waterside or Monarch. A 2 BR isn't that much more than a 1 BR at DVC for the entire Week. While that's a somewhat busy week, it's not nearly as busy as the 8 or 9 weeks preceeding. You might also consider an exchange request to Lodge Alley Inn or Church Street in Charleston both of which have studios and 1 BR units.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into that as well!

Charleston is much more Romantic than HHI. I live here. With the Resorts that Dean mentioned you can't go wrong. There are also some wonderful old (1800's) downtown homes that have been turned into Bed and Breakfast's. They are just beautiful. Charleston has a web site www.charleston.com
Here's wishing you the best of luck. I booked my son's honeymoon off of www.redweek.com HHI might be there also.

Or find a Bluegreen owner and arrange a private exchange for LAI. Same for Church street but it'd have to be a full week where LAI can actually be booked on BG points as few as 1 night. Do be awared that most villas are smoking, one floor of studios is non smoking (301-317). I'm thinking Church street is all NS.
