Hi! Been lurking around and was figuring I'd just read all the wonderful advice on Dis without jumping into the fray, but I'd love to have some feedback.
Here's our family...
Me: Librarian, banjo-player, comic geek, and ex-goth chick. I'm not much of a girly-girl, and I'm more for the Pixar side of Disney. I love traveling, and I'm up for going anywhere we have time and money for (both are scarce resources!). My favorite vacation ever was to Burning Man in 2007.
The Guy: Software developer, traffic signal collector, puzzle solver and lover of all things strange and complex. Has a very innocent spirit, went to Disney once as a teen, and is very excited to get back, but a little skeptical of bringing the kids when they're so small.
Amelia: Born in Summer of '08, she's an amazing, loving and spirited little soul. Her imagination knows no bounds, and she's the biggest reason we want to make this trip. So far, she hasn't cared much for the princess thing, but she loves Toy Story and the rest of the Pixar stuff, as well as Tangled. She also likes robots, Godzilla, and baby dolls. She LOVES all the Hiyao Miyazaki stuff, which makes me a bit disappointed that there doesn't seem to be anything at WDW related to Totoro or Ponyo. We're excited to go see Brave this summer, and hope that we'll be able to meet some of the characters when we go.
Oliver: Born in summer of '11. He's just six months old now, so he's a big X factor in all of this. Will he be ready when we go? Will we be ready?
So far our plan is to fly in from the Detroit area, rent a car, and stay at Wyndham Bonnet Creek. It's important to H to see the Kennedy Space Center while we're down there, and it's important to me to spend some time at the ocean, maybe just a half day. We're also thinking of going to Universal for a day or so, but it's not a priority. I'd like to go sometime between September 2012 and February 2013. So, off-season before Amelia enters Kindergarten and we have to follow the school schedule like everyone else. We want to make this a spectacular time, since we probably won't be back for five years or so (we like to see a variety of place, and we're on a budget!).
Timing wise, our concerns are primarily crowds, but also the ability to go swimming. How cold does the ocean get down there and when? H thinks September is ideal, but maybe Oliver would still be too young at that point, and wouldn't it be pretty hot? Also, would A be bored to tears at Kennedy?
Love to hear your thoughts!
