I am doing Annie, the musical, at our church as a dinner theater. We do one a year. It's a full-blown production, and I am playing Grace Farrell, Warbucks personal secretary. Last night was our opening night. I was going to stop and get dark panty hose on the way home from work, but Stephen suggested that we stop on our way to the church, then drive through McD's and then go to the church. We live about 20 minutes outside of town, so I just couldn't run out quickly. I didn't take into consideration I'd be in full make-up with very 1930's hair when I ran into Wal-Mart.

So, there I was in sweats and a zippered sweat shirt, finger curls in my hair (with a ton of hairspray) and full, 1930's make-up, including bright red lipstick. Boy, did I get the looks. I heard a little boy ask him mom what I was for Halloween. However, a little girl, probably three, told me I looked beautiful while standing in the check out stand.

BTW, opening night was great, now 6 more performances to go!!!

hehehe...i've done that before!!!

i'd love to see a picture of you all dolled up in your costume and 30's make up!!!

congrats on the show!!

Oh, that's funny. Thanks for the chuckle.

the worst thing about that is the stage makeup - it looks so much more garrish up close than "normal" makeup. i was thumbing through some old pictures the other day and i found so from after shows when we were all in stage makeup - we look really odd (guys with darkened eyebrows and eyeliner, really dark foundation, etc.)

:teeth: Did the Mom try to shush the little boy??

I bet that little girl will want a tube of bright red lipstick!puckerup:

Hey at least you werent playing Miss Hannigan!!

it could have been MUCH worse! LOL

Im sure you looked beautiful :)

Break a leg, tc!!!

We always go out to dinner after working at the Yankee Peddler Festival wearing our colonial garb. I just love walking into a restaurant with a tri-cornered hat and seeing the reaction. And I have dropped into Wal-Mart, the grocery store, and the local pizza shop dressed that way as well. :)

Hope you have a great time. Sounds like you are in your element.

BTW - You should post a picture of you and the cast of the play.

Binny, very true, at least Grace is pretty!

Pam, no, his mom just looked embarrassed.

I do my make-up early so I can help everyone else once they get there, but my husband opted to put his makeup on at the church. It's a good thing too, because, when he puts eyeliner on (not even mascara), he is really quite pretty. He'd've definately got looks.

Hey, the good news is, it's Halloween time, so that's not too bad! LOL!

I agree...PICTURES please:D

The only thing I have ever done was go into Ameristop in my wedding dress, before going to my reception. I wanted an ice cream cone...and needed to stop to see those I worked with. It was fun.

Pictures please!

I saw Annie on broadway many moons ago! Would love to see a local theater put on Annie too.

I'll take the digital camera this weekend and take some pics. I usually do, but this has been such a week. Rehearsals till 11:00 or so since Sunday evening, then opening last night. Shows tonight, Sat and Sun, then three days off and shows Thu, Fri & Sat.

I'll post pics on Monday, k?

leahannpen: my husband said the same thing. If it were mid-July or December, I may have gotten more looks. I also didn't have the rest of my costume on, so it was kind of odd.

Been there - done that.

I'm a dance instructor & a few times I've gone out after the show not realizing I still have some pretty heavy make-up on or I've "run" into a store in my dance clothes & name tag on. Once someone said "Have a nice day, Miss Melanie". I couldn't figure out how they knew me until I got home & realized my name was pinned to my chest!!!

I've never worn stage makeup, but I have stopped at the grocery store in my Christmas Caroling outfit. Since it is a furlined maroon cloak and skirt, I've been called Mrs. Claus by little kids - boy that makes me feel old!

How Funny. My husband looks pretty in stage makeup as well and since he's been doing makeup since he was little (he use to be in the Chicago Civic Opera) he puts it on better then me.
