Anybody use a lcd screen protector other than the one that came with the camera? Does it work and are you happy with it?

Tryed to one for my D40 but they don't make an oem style.Use the ones from quantaray and they hold up pretty good.I can usually get one trip out of it before I have to replace it

DH bought one for his Pentax K100D off ebay and seems to like it. He bought it for any bumps/scratches that it might sustain. Just make sure and get the one for the proper size screen on your camera. :thumbsup2

I have several size LCD's on my different cameras so I am using the pda screen covers and I just cut them to fit the screens. I found them at Target. They will stay on for months and install easy. I think they are a little thicker than the other screen protectors.

Not necessary IMO. I'm always (literally) out in the field with my D50 and have never had a prob.

I used to use the plastic stick on things but then I stopped figuring that I'm really only concerned with the pictures not how clean or pretty my camera is.

I have a glass LCD screen protector on my camera, just because I've seen the effects with and w/o it. Most people probably think "I don't care if I get dust/dirt on the screen. I can clean it." And I agree to an extent. But I've seem something as harmless as a kid running by and bump into the camera, breaking the LCD screen, and rendering it useless. Then you have to pay the money to replace your LCD screen. Then I've also seen similar damage WITH a screen protector on it and the only thing that had to be replaced was a $4 protector. Now maybe it's because I'm in the insurance business, but it seems worth the protection to me. :thumbsup2

I have a thick plastic protector on my D80. I find it perfect for protection (I also have camera armor on that camera and LOVE it - that camera is beyond clean). On my D3, I don't, but I probably should.... :)

My D80 came with a plastic screen protector that snaps on. I put the sticky kind from Quantaray on my p&s's and my D50 after I noticed how scratched the lcd screen on my D50 got after a year or so. I hike with it so it must have scratched from rubbing on my clothing/pack while hiking. The Quantaray ones last a long time. I've only replaced one so far.

I never put a screen on my D50, and I just use the plastic one that came with the D300. I pop it off now and then to clean the screen...dust still gets in there.

Used to use one, but don't anymore. Not sure about the other brands, but it's a relatively inexpensive fix to repair the cover that's already on the Canon's LCD (around $20 and you can do it yourself... so I am told).

The 50D has a scratch resistant coating as well and so far it's worked well. Won't protect from a direct blow but then again I've had much more fragile LCD's and never had an issue.
