So disturbed about no refillable mugs at Poly!

It's hard to believe that there would be no alternate location to refill mugs at the Poly during Captain Cook's Rehab. Refillable mugs are offered to guests at every WDW resort, and certainly should be made available somehow, even during construction, to all guests. What's so hard about having fountains available at the temporary location?

I would like to write my concerns to this effect to management, but don't know to whom to direct them. I would really appreciate it if anyone out there has a name and address of someone who could listen to my grievance. I promise I'll be very polite...uh, as usual.

Edited to add: DH already has me pricing other resorts, but I'd rather stay at Poly with no mugs than anywhere else with them!

TIA :sunny:

When the WL did renovations to Roaring Fork this past Feb. - April, they, too, did not have the refillable mugs. I know they're convenient and save $$$ when you drink a lot of soft drinks, tea and coffee, but there are alternatives. Maybe stop at a grocery store and get a 24 pack of soda or have some soda shipped to the resort before you go. There are coffee makers in the rooms at the Polynesian so yes, although not an ideal situation, you could still find creative ways to work it out. Just my .02.

I know what you mean I too am disturbed by this. What I don't understand is Tangora Terrace, the temp location, use to be a restaurant so why not be able to hook up the fountain machine? Yes I can load up on some diet coke and something for the kids, but isn't it nice for the kids to be able to pick different drinks, hot chocolate (for the after evening swim), or something else. We will also be taking two friends with us and it is just convienent when they want a swallow of drink after we get back to the hotel or after swimming to refill the mug. Also someone wrote on another thread that it will be grab and go food, so does this mean no hot food like hot dogs, hamburgers, or pizza? And does anyone know if there will be croissant rolls?

We are going to be at the poly july14-22nd and are also concerned with the rumors about food court during rehab. I called the poly and was transferred to one of the managers of the company that runs the food court. He said that the menu will not change during the rehab except for the absence of the fountain machine. Didn't catch his name, but if you call the poly maybe you could also get a hold of his office.

I am a BIG refillable-mug fan. I almost changed my WL ressie when I found out I'd be there during the Roaring Fork rehab. But finally, decided I could work around it. I stocked the fridge with bottled beverages. It was actually quite nice, since I could just throw the bottles away as I finished them. Just plan out a way to go without, and have a great time.

I know how you're feeling, I was shocked when WL didn't make a temporary station to refill the mugs. There was a big outcry on the boards here, and I know some people did write in and complain. No temporary refilling stations were ever made, though. I think maybe the refillable mug program is not so very important to WDW. Otherwise, they'd police it a little better!

I love buying a mug every time we go to the Poly. While I will miss it I don't find it that big a deal. I'll just buy individual drinks this trip. It ought to be back up and running for our October trip though.

Can you normally refill the mugs with coffee from the coffee place in the lobby beside Kona?

While I agree that the mugs are a very nice perk that WDW resorts offer these days I find it hard to demand them. :confused3 Those of us who are REALLY old remember going to WDW before the mugs were an option. And where else do you vacation that offers them? As scanne said the WL reportedly didn't offer them during renovations. Did the GF when Gasparillas was being redone...don't remember???

As to how hard it is, I imagine it requires a seperate drainage system....maybe far more trouble than it is worth for a short term situation.

I hope you have fun and discover the magic of the Polynesian even without a mug. :cool1:

With the coffee being so mediocre, and free refrigerators where you can store very inexpensively-purchased soda yourself, it's pretty easy to do without the refillable mugs.

ITA. If a refillable mug is going to ruin a stay at a fabulous resort then perhaps a change in venue is in order. LOL!

I think the mugs are a perk so Disney can decide at any time to end the program. Have bottles delivered and have a fabulous vacation anyway.

I'm not planning on buying a mug. It certainly wouldn't be a resort breaker for me. I plan on bringing water since this is what we mostly drink. In the heat of the summer a cool drink of water is better than sugary soda anyway. They also say there's a coffee bar in the GCH to get coffee.

No, you can only buy individual cups there (which btw is some of the best coffee I've ever had, too bad I don't drink coffee any more).

We don't get the refillable mugs, but I can understand why some of you might be disappointed. It's the little routines that we do on our trip that can be a let down when they get changed. I'm not happy about Captain Cooks rehab is going to be on when we will be there. I was hoping to be able to grab breakfast for our family while we are there and now it looks like we need to plan accordingly.

I will agree with others about coffee at Kona Island. If we aren't staying at the PR I make a special trip over there just to get a cup. :)

I agree with the others not having mugs and hot food is a major dissapointment for me. We take breaks during the day and would like to have CS lunch at Poly and I need morning coffee and afternoon drinks. Also my kids will like picking their drinks. Also we have never stayed at Poly before and I wanted those cute mugs with Mickey & Minnie on them. We might not stay at Poly next time :confused3 . My DS just turned 2 and it is convenient to have a counter service for lunch and some breakfasts. We eat TS for dinner and a few breakfast but I don't want to have to make ADR"s for lunch too. That is alot of wasted time and DS will not want to be sitting all day either. DD 6 is in love with the Poly since we ate at 'Ohana last trip so I don't want to switch resorts. Just venting my concerns. I'm sure Kona coffee is great though, but I want fountain sodas with ice it will be very hot and humid in September. :sad2:

You can still get carryout from Kona's and not have to have an ADR to do it. DD always gets a child meal for lunch at Kona's and we take it down to the pool. Your DD can play by the pool and then eat there too. It isn't a big deal. Hotels do have to remodel every now and then. Since the Poly is always crowded there is never a down time to do this. I am sure they will have plenty of bottled soda to quench your thirst on a hot day. If this is going to make or break a trip then I suggest moving to another resort. The Poly is not all about the refillable mug or Captain Cooks. That is the least part of the place.

I was disappointed at first too, but than I realized that we can buy mugs at the GF or CR and use them for our length of stay at those resorts. It's officially written on the Disney website. I talked to DH about it, and we both agreed, sounds like a plan. Big deal -so we have to walk back to our room or take the monorail. We live right outside of DC, don't go on vacation very much. After sitting in rush hour traffic, I think a ride around in the monorail, or a walk through lush greenery sounds quite nice and relaxing. Please don't let the fact that you can't get soda at will ruin your vacation. It's not going to ruin ours!
Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A pirates life for us...

It is nice knowing that is an option, but we are on the dining plan and the last thing I want to do is use a TS credit when I was planning on using a CS credit.
Who knows maybe the grab and go selection won't be bad. I guess we could use a break from french fries :)

Exactly! We are also on the dining plan and there is no way I'm using up all my TS for take out at kona. For people that use the mugs it is very annoying and some people on this board can't grasp that I guess. We have always wanted to stay at Poly and it will not ruin our trip (that is a little dramatic don't you think). It is very inconvenient though with little kids. Worst case we will have to get mugs from GF and eat there instead.
