So I've pretty much given up hope that Disney is doing anything for the 40th Anniversary of the opening of the Magic Kingdom. However, I was surprised to see this tweet via the official twitter feed of Walt Disney World.

Posted at noon on 9/9:
@WaltDisneyWorld - We can't reveal all the details, but guests at Magic Kingdom can expect special surprises on Oct. 1.

So what do you all think? I'm still not expecting much. Maybe a couple words at opening, or at some point during the day. Maybe special buttons, maps, pins, or something. It seems pretty late to have the Disney hype machine in full press.

I am thinking fireworks and a parade and will be there for it no matter what happens!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be there, but I'm not expecting much. If there's some cool stuff I'll be surprised. This seems to be a great experiment to see if setting low expectations about an event can be a big win for Disney. We shall see.

Special Vinylmation release. Sorry to the folks who don't like 'em.

We were on our honeymoon when it was the 30th anniversary. The actual first we saw good morning america in the parks. There was some merchandise and when we were in country bears we sang happy birthday to dem bears. That's it. I think there was a extra bit to the parade. So I'm not too surprised that nothing much is going on. However, doesn't it seem like this might be a last minute rush to do something?

A flash mob would be great. We're still deciding if we want to brave the crowds to go that day.

I hope they wow us with something.Just because it has not been announced that does not mean it's not planned. In fact I wish they would have unannounced surprises to begin with. A magical moment just for the people the went that day and not announced a year ago that would be great.

I have contacted a high-level person in Public Relations at WDW concerning a close relative of a friend who is WDW's "twin sister", having been born October 1, 1971 and who is a Disney fanatic. She will be visiting WDW for a few days centered around October 1, and the friend wanted to know if something could be done?

The response was that Disney has no plans for anything special. I was put in contact with a reporter from The Orlando Sentinel who will be doing the lead on a feature about the Anniversary, and I was also told that the largest newspaper in that person's home state is also doing a feature on the Anniversary and more than likely that newspaper would like to include the woman in the article.

IF they are planning to do anything special, they are definitely hiding what they will do from their Cast Members and Public Relations people.

Well I did go on the pin website so I know they are putting out Limited editions of the pins on that day. Including one stating "I was there."

And it ticks me off because it's like now they decided to put these out and I have no chance of getting them.:headache: Or even being there.

What happened to the celebrations of old? They showed the 15th and they gave away a car for goodness sakes? It just seems since Disneyland's 50th the WD company has decided to do every anniversary on the cheap.

Mini-rant, I am so sorry.:guilty:

I'll be there no matter what they have planned. I'm getting off the Dream the 29th and was originally going to leave on Oct 1 then I realized it was the 40th anniversary and i changed my departure date to Oct 2. I just wanted to be there that day and say I was there :)

Can't wait -no matter what they are planning - I'm just happy to be at "my happy place" :)

I think the flash mob idea is likely right. All the princesses, with their princes, doing the Cotton Eyed Joe. Of course, the "traditional" phrase shouted out at one point will be changed. ;)

The only other possibility is that they dig out all of the Mickey costumes then can find, and have a battalion of Mickeys doing the Macarena.

I'm betting on the Cotton Eyed Joe myself.

But I'm not betting very much! :dance3:

We will be in town for the W&D 1/2 but will not be in the park that day...maybe we should revise our plans. :flower3:

There's a limited edition pin for sale saying "I was there" for the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Magic Kingdom on October 1.

Tell everyone "I was there!" at the 40th anniversary of Walt Disney World® Resort with this limited edition pin featuring Mickey Mouse in front of Cinderella Castle.
