So disappointed

Thank you all! Your messages have really helped. I didn't even know this website existed until a few days ago. I had been hoping to eat at the Blue Bayou but oh well. Is it hard to get into Club 33?

You better believe it. It's on the bucket list of most. Jokingly, you have to know someone that knows someone that knows someone that is a member that can get you a reservation. You can't even join the wait list to join the club because it became so long (14 years), and even if you were lucky enough to have your name come up on the list, it costs several thousands to join and a few thousand in annual dues. Here's the wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_33

That is EXACTLY how I got my reservation! LOL! :rotfl: My husband works with a guy who's wife knows a member! So I know someone who knows someone who knows someone. And we were only able to get this reservation because the co-worker and wife will be there that day also and got us added to their reservation. After Wednesday, I will be able to die a happy girl!

Ok, pretty jealous here... :rolleyes1

Have fun and report back!

They shouldn't be allowed to do that though. Not Pirates AND HM!

I'm charging my camera batteries right now and getting ready to pack them! :cool1: I told DH that we will not be using the camera until Wednesday, the rest of the trip we can just use our phones (which have really good cameras on them actually). I promise, you'll all get a full report when I get back! :woohoo:

I think you understand my issue is not with folks being disappointed - I was disappointed about Matterhorn being down in August, and I knew about it far in advance. That is how it works out sometimes as we all know. :teacher:

There are some people though who don't take time to read here or post here beforehand but somehow do find the time to post angry comments here after it is too late for them to change anything. No one here has acted angry so I am not referring to anyone in this thread. But those "I am so angry - my trip is ruined" threads happen regularly around here by people who have never posted once in this forum before that. Those folks can be angry if they want but often they have no one to blame but themselves.

In any case my post was not directed so much at the posters in this thread but to "newcomers" who are just coming into the forum (or might soon) and see this thread - to encourage them to pay attention to all of the things discussed in this thread and other threads like it - so that they can make the best choices for them and hopefully have minimal disappointments and surprises.

Yeah, but you've been on this thread for over 6-years now and have nearly 10,000 posts. DISboards is a resource you're very familiar with. Maybe you've lost some perspective on what it means to not live on the boards. We don't all discover this, or other, resource(s) before we've already made plans. Some don't even discover it....ever!

Also, few people plan their vacations within only 3-months. Most people need more notice than that for various reasons including making sure their workplace doesn't loose too many employees to vacations at once.

It's possible that what a newcomer will get from this thread is that DISboard vets have become cynical and will take it out on innocent folks looking for Camaraderie.

All anyone has to do before they go to the parks to know what will be down, is know how to use the internet. Simply search for "Disneyland closures" or "disneyland rehabs" and you will get the information. It's that simple.

It doesn't take experience on fansites.

True, but last thing I would think of is looking specifically for what would be closed before I booked the trip. So many other cool things to look into :goodvibes! Especially for someone who has not gone in many years (or ever).

I booked our hotel (who the heck knows how long ago, seems like forever ago :lmao:) before they even hinted that POTC would be closed. Not changing our plans though, while I wanted to see the differences between DLR/WDW POTC it was not a deal breaker - I will see the pirates next year at WDW, others are not as lucky :grouphug:

I made the mistake of booking when it would be the least crowded rather than finding out which rides would be closed. I just didn't think of it. Lesson learned. It is disappointing but as everyone has mentioned, there are plenty of other things to look forward to!

I really love Disney parks and I want everyone to have the most magical experience they possibly can. pixiedust: That is a big reason why I am active on Disney forums. ::yes::

Of course some people do not find forums like this until late in the game and they have made choices that can result in disappointment of some kind. It is the attitude of some of those new posters (not all - and really no one is this thread) - that wants to blame everyone else - that seems misguided to me.

Maybe I am different when I go into researching something. For example, we have been to Hawaii before but made our first trip to Maui in 2008. When I started doing some research on activities on that island I found out about the "best, most highly recommended luau on the island". Guess what? It was sold out by the time I called. :sad1:

So I was disappointed. But I had a choice. :teacher:

1. I could vent about it being sold out

2. I could be disappointed in myself that I waited too long to do the research and just sign up for luau #2

I chose #2.

So there you go. I do not think that makes me cynical. It just makes me have less patience for people with certain kinds of attitudes.

And again, I am not talking about anyone in this thread.

:cool2:

But it does take experience to know that ride closures exist in the first place. It also takes experience with the internet. Not everyone is an internet junkie and there are many people that don't realize it can be used for darn near everything under the sun.

Obviously, for one reason or another, lots of people are bummed out to discover that ride closures will be in effect on their Disney days. Whatever peoples reasons are for not having had that information previously, it is uncivil to make them feel stupid or shame them because they don't know everything you do.

People come to these forums not only to get information, but also to share our experiences - good or bad, exciting or disappointing - with other people that supposedly understand them. I'm suggesting we maintain an element of compassion here. I think, in the long run, it will do more good for everybody than impatience with peoples "inefficiencies".

And you're not getting mad now, which is admirable! I appreciate that you're able to defend your position with calmness and clarity. :woohoo:

My intention in all of this was two-fold:

1) To take the OP's side, just in case, they felt put down a little. Some people are more sensitive than others.

2) To remind you that we're human. Seeing that the OP was not angry - just sad and looking for encouragement - your first post to him/her could've been more encouraging. Your point about people getting *angry* for ride closures is absolutely valid! But maybe you could've made that point in a later post, after establishing rapport with the OP? As it is, you ended up independantly establishing rapport but it was kind of backwards.

HydroGuy, anybody knows that you have given so much help and countless insights to.... I'd say everyone on this forum! LOL. I know I've thanked you myself in the past. Now, I thank you again for allowing this discussion to be civil.
