So disappointed

I'm new here and I apologize for barging in but I'm so disappointed because I planned a trip to Disneyland for after Labor Day and didn't realize that Pirates, California Screamin', and Haunted Mansion will be closed. :sad1: Pirates is my favorite ride. I have not been to Disneyland since 1999 and I seriously considered canceling my trip when I found out these rides were closed. I should have known that if there are fewer crowds, chances are some rides will be closed. So... I'm just looking for something to cheer me up... If anyone can think of something that will help make up for missing these rides, it would be appreciated. :) At least I'll be at Disneyland!

Thanks,
Liz

If you haven't been since 1999, think of everything you haven't seen that will be open :) Pirates being closed during my upcoming trip is a bummer but being there for fall is still more desirable than a summer trip. We went last fall and there were 3 rides closed that we really wanted to see. This year those 3 are open and there are others we want that are closed.

You just said it...AT LEAST YOU WILL BE AT DISNEYLAND! I know it's a bummer, but there is the new Star Tours, Buzz Lightyear, Toy Story Mania, Little Mermaid, and of course World of Color, all new since 1999! I'm sure I am forgetting something as well!

You will have an awesome time! Remember a day at Disneyland with a few rides closed, is still a better day than not being at Disneyland at all! :)

I totally know how you feel! I went through the same exact devistation when I discovered the same. Honestly, it took me about a week to catch my breath after mourning. :rotfl: The encouragement I can add is that you're lucky to have discovered this NOW instead of after you get there. You have time to "digest" your disappointment and realize that you still want to go. :) Now, when you arrive, you can focus on having a good time without the shock that you're getting out of the way today! :wizard:

You will still have Fantasmic, World of Color, Fireworks with Dumbo, 2 parades, and Aladdin as well as many other rides that we all love.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement. It is really helping! Only 10 days to go!

:wizard:

Sorry to hear that Potc wont be open while you're there. it's one of my favorite rides as well.

The bright side, you'll be in Disneyland. Plus, if you haven't been since 99, that means there's a whole new park for you to explore now.

Ditto to all the above, plus Space Mountain has a new soundtrack (well, new to you - I think they revamped it back around 2005 or so). A small change, but they switched out the rockin' Camille Saint-Saëns: Aquarium themed track to one that sounds kinda Mission Impossible-ish! lol! And they added Disney characters to It's A Small World, so you can do a hunt for Ariel, Pinocchio, Alladin, etc. And Tower of Terror! whoooo!!!!

You're so fortunate because been a LONG time since you've visited DL. You'll need extra days just to do all the new stuff you've never experienced before. Have a magical time! :wizard:

One of the nice things about fan sites like this, and the official DL.com calendar, is you can find out about rehabs before you arrive. That was you can get excited about the huge amount of other great things.

I'm disappointed too! We're going on Wednesday, which is the 1st day of the Pirates closure. I'm still thrilled to go - especially since we're eating lunch at Club 33 - but I'm sad that some of my favorites are closed!

I am bummed that anyone goes to DLR disappointed. :sad1:

For all newcomers, this is why forums like this are so valuable! Most all of these closures had credible rumors revealed back in June. We have had regular discussions on this forum about them for the last several months. Anyone checking in during that time could have found this out a lot sooner.

For example see this post from June:

Al Lutz Mega-Update - DCA Magic Mornings?, Lots of Refurbs, PFF Moving, Tiered Prices

We see these kinds of posts every month and we always wish folks would post questions earlier in the planning process rather than waiting until too late - and then deciding to post about their disappointments - or in some cases anger...unfortunately.

I hope those of you going during the refurbs will otherwise have magical trips. :wizard:

I was equally disappointed when we were going in 2009 and I found out there was not a single train that DS4 (who loved trains) could go on. Gadgets Go-Coaster was in refurb, the DL train was in refurb and he was only 39 inches so could not ride GMRR. However, we still had a magical time. Once you get there, there will be so many fun things to do, you will have an amazing time anyways.

It is a bummer, but there will be so many other fun things to do! When we went to WDW last year, It's a small world was down- my baby was 6 months at that time and I was SO sad because I knew it was something he would have loved looking at, and it would have been a great escape from the heat with him. But- there were still plenty of other things for us to do and we had a great time.

We will be at DL next month and Pirate's and California Screamin will be down. I feel just about as sad about Pirate's as I did about IASW- LOVE Pirates- love that it is something I can take the baby on, and I have talked about how much better Pirate's is at DL for years. We have never done California Screamin so don't feel as sad about that one (yet). Anyway- it will be a bummer but I know we will be plenty busy with everything else!

This doesn't mean that we all just figured it out. Sure, I've known for quite awhile about the closures that are set for Wednesday, but I'm only going to be there for one day - with a large chunk of the day being lunch - so I think I'm still allowed to be disappointed that my favorite rides will be closed. I can understand your feelings towards people who post about just realizing it and are actually mad about it, but some of us are just voicing our disappointment. :confused3

When we found out that Pirates was going to be closed I was near canceling our trip... by these lovely people on this board helped me off the ledge :thumbsup2
We are super excited, and yes, it totally sucks, but it's DISNEYLAND!!! YAY!!!

Well said, all of these rides are awesome :goodvibes

Ummm.... you are going to Club 33. There is absolutely nothing to be disappointed in. Nope, not even Pirates. You are going to Club 33. :cool1::yay::dance3::cheer2: That about sums it up. :goodvibes

- Dreams (who will gladly go to Club 33 for you and you can come when Pirates is open and ride is all day long instead of eating at Club 33 :upsidedow)

I would be willing to make the trip just for Club 33. It's something most of us mere mortals can only dream about.:wizard:

I think you understand my issue is not with folks being disappointed - I was disappointed about Matterhorn being down in August, and I knew about it far in advance. That is how it works out sometimes as we all know. :teacher:

There are some people though who don't take time to read here or post here beforehand but somehow do find the time to post angry comments here after it is too late for them to change anything. No one here has acted angry so I am not referring to anyone in this thread. But those "I am so angry - my trip is ruined" threads happen regularly around here by people who have never posted once in this forum before that. Those folks can be angry if they want but often they have no one to blame but themselves.

In any case my post was not directed so much at the posters in this thread but to "newcomers" who are just coming into the forum (or might soon) and see this thread - to encourage them to pay attention to all of the things discussed in this thread and other threads like it - so that they can make the best choices for them and hopefully have minimal disappointments and surprises.

Captain EO is back. Nemo Subs. IASW redone. The Castle Walkthrough is new. Princess Fantasy Faire. Pixie Hollow. DCA - a whole new park! Monsters, Inc. Bug's Land, Aladdin, Animation Academy, tons of fun things to do and see. We love POTC, too, and that closure (along with Redwood Creek Challenge Trail) was one of the reasons we opted not to take a weekend trip in October - but we were just there in August. Trust me, you will stay plenty busy and happy with a few closures.

Have a great trip!!

I know I know.... My sister asked me last night what I was going to dream of doing now that this life goal is being completed! :scared1: I do still feel a *tiny* bit of disappointment because of no Pirates, but yeah, nothing will really bother me that day!
