I just checked the pop warner website and the pop warner superbowl is the exact same week we had planned to be there. The website says they are expecting 360,000 players and cheerleaders:eek: !!!!! We are flexible here so I think we may move our week up. I love teenagers but this is our first WDW trip and probably the last for a long time and I want to make things as good for us as possible. I also read most of them will be staying at Pop ands thats where we are staying.

Does anyone know how the crowds are the week AFTER Thanksgiving????::MinnieMo

we went the week after thanksgiving a few years ago and it was
great! they had the christmas lights up at mgm and it was so not
crowded!!!

you will have a ball!

We were there the week after Thanksgiving last year. The crowds were great - all of the rides were walk ons or very short waits - we rode buzz lightyear about 15 times in a row with no wait & tower of terror three times with no wait. We only used fast pass once and that was for mission space. The fast pass was good for the next hour. Hope you have a great trip. By the way what are the dates the 360,000 pop warner cheeleaders & players supposed to descend on Disney? Thanks :D

The 1sy week of Dec. is terrific. Don't feel bad about the cheerleaders, I will be there without my DH, but with my DD, 5 and DS 8 months in June during GAY DAYS!:earseek: :earseek: We will have a great time.

eveyone wonders what crowds will be like when Pop Warner is there... it will be just as crowded as if they weren't there..if there are x amount of rooms booked...it doesn't matter who is in them.... only thing I will comment on is that when the Cheerleaders are there... (my daughter is a former cheerleader so I am not putting them down) it will be much more noisy... you will hear them chanting on the bus, on the lines for the rides, out side the rooms practicing the routines... you will even (and I did complain at that point) see some parents doing their daughters hair in the food court .... spraying hair spray like there is no tomorrow with no reguard for anyone who was sitting around them eating!!!! That is down right rude & disrespectful in my opinion... the noise...you live with ...but the hair styling in the food court....that shouldn't be happening.... but...you cannot say that they are all like that.... of all the squads I had seen, this was the ONLY one who did that.... the CM in the food court said something to them...they waited for him to walk away and they went right back to it!

This year, over 4,200 scholar-athletes have been selected as recipients of this prestigious award. As a result, you are all invited to attend the 44th Annual Scholar All-American Banquet which takes place on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Walt Disney World Resort- coronado springs.

this is the saturday start of the gay days as well. yikes!

It was a mis-read. That's the number of kids who played nationwide in the league...but only the all-americans are invited to the banquet. 232271 had the number for that....4000 last year got the award and were invited...now how many actually attend is another matter....didn't see that number anywhere....

when I look on the above posted link, it says that May 29, 2004, is the banquet date  . I don't know ANYTHING about this Pop Warner, so does it also take place in DECEMBER? What dates? I have a friend going for his first trip in over 20 years in either the first or second week of December. Please clarify :D .

I thought Disney tends to put the Pop Warner/Cheerleader crowd up at the All Star Resorts, since I heard somewhere on these boards that All Stars are better setup to handle a huge group checkins moreso than Pop Century. I may be mistaken on this. You might want to see if you can flag down Chip&Dale Express on this board, or post to the Pop Century FAQ board, and pose the question.

I forgot to answer the last question on crowd size the week after Thanksgiving. We were down this past year the week after Thanksgiving, and the crowds really weren't that bad, although I think the crowds were larger than what we experienced say the week before Thanksgiving in the past.

I think alot of it had to do with the fact that we were now toting around two kids in strollers rather than being down there by ourselves.

This is what I read from the Disney Sports Complex site.

December 5 - 11, 2004
Disney's Wide World of Sports® Complex will host the Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer and Dance Championships from December 5 - 11, 2004. Iin its 75th year, Pop Warner Little Scholars is the largest youth football, cheer and dance organization in the United States, consisting of 360,000 young people ranging from ages 5 - 16 years old.

I've gone the past two years when the football players and cheerleaders have been there, and it can make the hotel food courts and pools a bit crazy. When we were at the POFQ two years ago, they were running around the walkways of the hotel yelling and screaming until lately at night.

I didn't notice them in the parks too often. I've only had a couple of problems with cheerleaders in the parks, and all of those problems have involved unsupervised groups of kids cut the line, and being inconsiderate in line (i.e. swearing loudly in front of little kids, repeatedly elbowing my cousin's son because they are so self-involved they don't notice anyone in line). Basically, they are just being kids. But if I do run into a group, it's usually only for one attraction, and then we "lose' them.

We were in WDW last Dec and checked in at the tail end of the Pop/Cheerleaders stay. We were at AllStarMu and it really wasn't too bad! Yes, they were cheering around the pool area. But we got a room on the back of Jazz bldg, on the third floor. Never heard anything there. The food courts were really busy at the normal eating hours. So...we ate at off times. The bus lines were a little busier than normal but we found the kids to be pretty well-mannered. Saw very few in the parks. But we arrived on a Fri and a lot of them left on Sat and Sun.

We're hoping the crowds aren't too bad the week after Thanksgiving also. We are there until Wed, so hopefully Mon and Tues will be okay.

We've been at WDW the week after Thanksgiving two years in a row and had no trouble with Pop Warner/cheerleaders. Overall, the parks are so much less crowded and the Christmas decorations are great. I wouldn't worry too much about Pop Warner.

Now I'm worried that is when we are going December 6th - 10th. We are however staying at Shades of Green so we shouldn't have a problem there. I hope the parks are not crazy :(

Andrea,
I hope things go well for you. We have changed our dates. My husband and I are flexible and I just didnt want to take a chance. This may be our one and only trip to WDW, but I hope it isnt. We ar staying at POP century so I just didnt want to take a chance.::MinnieMo
