I've been reading about all these discounts that you can get, however, I have a basic question on the "rack" rates.
I've learned from mousesavers.com that a king bed room at POFQ during the value season (sept 10-19) is $148 per night.
The Dream maker + Silver package is $68 pp/ night

So, if I were to do this math, I would be paying $1332 ($148 x 9 nights) for my hotel stay plus $1224 ($68 x 2 people x 9 days) for the dream maker + silver package for a grand total of $2556.

However, when I go onto Disney's site and plug in the exact same info, they give me a package price of $2582 - over $1000 more!

Both are before taxes of course. Can someone explain to me what I'm doing wrong with my math? I'm totally confused now as to who's #'s I should be using when calculating basic costs.

Thank you in advance!!

You calculate a price of $2,556 and said the website quoted you a price of $2,582. That's only a difference of $26, not over $1,000.

Rake rates are room only. A Dream Maker package is room plus UPH tickets (length of stay passes) and the Silver add on is in addition to the Dream Maker price. All that said, it is very often the case that a room only plus a Park Hopper pass is a better deal than a Dream Maker. It is pretty safe to say it is always a better deal to do a room only if you are talking about no discounts.

I went to the Disney site and for your dates, 2 adults, POFQ w/king bed, Dreamaker package w/silver addon, the cost is $3582.66.

Your error in calculations in when you assumed that the dreamaker package + silver addon was $68 per person per day. It isn't. Only the silver addon is $68 per person. The dreamaker package itself is a separate cost that includes your UPHs and a few other little extras as well as the room cost.

The same room and dates with a Dreamaker Package would be $2358.62 for 2 adults.

The same room and dates with UPHs for 2 adults would be $148x9x1.115 (tax) for the room plus 2x$463.66 (cost of each UPH). Total cost with taxes = $2414.50.

Ahha! Thank you so much, mad4themouse!!!!
So, I was calculating my hotel costs plus the cost of the silver add on package....and I left off the base cost of the dream maker basic package (tickets)

And yes, I did have a typo in my original post....disney's site quoted me around 3500, not 2500 as originally stated.

Do people generally feel that the silver or gold add on package is a good bargin? (this trip will be for our honeymoon, so we'd like to see a show, spend some time at a spa and eat at some nice restaurants)

Thanks again!! I feel much less confused! :)

I agonized for days and days over the decision of whether or not to do the Dream Maker w/Silver Add-on or not. I finally decided not to do it. The Silver Plan appealed to me because they were meals, spa treatments, etc.. that were already paid for. I thought it would be great to go into a restaurant and eat all I wanted and not have to exchange any money at that time. However, the real breakdown is that unless you would be spening about $28 per person for every meal, it is not worth it IMHO.

I am planning a trip filled with lots of great WDW restaurant meals, but after looking at all the menus of the restaurants we are going to, we would definitely come out better NOT doing the Silver Plan.

Your best bet is to buy the room, tickets, and meals all seperately rather than reserve a package.

Unless----- you aren't much of a planner----then the beauty of the package is that all the elements are done for you, with only one bill to pay.

If you have the time, and are obsessed about your trip like me, then plan an itinerary and pick out your meals at all the restaurant you would like to go to. Don't forget to factor in tax and gratuity. Add together all the costs for the meals, and shows you want. Then compare it with what the Silver Plan Add On will cost you. That will help you decide.
