So confused. Q re: borrow/cancel

OK.. Please help. In Feb I booked a sept 2017 short trip and borrowed 86pts from my 2017 contract(U/Y sept) . I just cancel and tried to rebook for July of this year and it won't let me borrow at all. I can see the 86 points were put back into the contract and I can see on main page for booking that 2017 has 86 points available.I can see it, but yet when I go to book, it won't let me borrow or show right there on borrow page that the points are available?? But then I go back to main page and the 86 points are there? Sorry if thus has been asked a million times.. So frustrated. Thanks

Your use year is September? And you booked a September trip? Borrowing from 2017 wouldn't be necessary for that. September 2017 trip with a September UY naturally uses 2017 points.

Did you maybe borrow from 2018 points? (which moves points slated to be used from September 2018 through August 2019 so now they can be used September 2017 through August 2018) If so, those points are now 2017 points (to be used from September 2017 through August 2018) and cannot be used for a July 2017 trip. July 2017 trip with a September UY would need 2016 UY points (which are used from Sept 2016 through August 2017).

I agree with bumbershoot. It sounds like you borrowed from 2018. You won't be able to use those points any earlier than September 2017.

If you haven't already, spend some time with this thread:

Understanding Use Year

Make yourself a chart for September similar to the one in the example.

As the others have posted, a July 2017 trip falls within your 2016 use year (9/1/2016 - 8/31/2017). To pay for that trip, you can use the points from your 2016 use year, any points that you banked from 2015 (9/1/2015 - 8/31/2016) or you may borrow from the points from 2017 (9/1/2017 - 8/31/2018).

Sounds like you really don't have any points left in your 2017 use year. You apparently borrowed points from your 2018 use year (9/1/2018 - 8/31/2019) for the September 2017 trip. But those 2018 points (borrowed into the 2017 use year) cannot be used for any trip that occurs before 9/1/2017, so even though you cancelled the September 2017 trip, the points that were returned to your account cannot be used for the desired July trip. You will have to use those borrowed points between 9/1/2017 and 8/31/2018 or they will expire on 8/31/2018.

Also, aren't you within the last four months of your use year? Isn't there a rule about not being able to book and travel during that period?

The rule of 4 only applies to trades outside the DVC system.

You can book and travel the very last day of your UY if you can find availability for a DVC resort. (It would make me nervous though.)
