We are going to Clearwater and I am trying to find a hotel on the beach. I have narrowed it down to 2 cheaper and 2 higher priced. But what is the difference between intercoastal, bayview, gulf view, marina??????????? Anyone ever stayed at Pier 60 House? Or Palm Pavillion? The higher ends are Sandpearl and Hyatt.

Here is a break down of location descriptions. The "Intercostal" is the waterway between Clearwater Beach and the Mainland. Clearwater Beach is actually a barrier island. The "Marina" is on the intercostal overlooking a marina, and there are several marina's. "Gulfview" actually has a view of the Gulf-of-Mexico. "Bayview" is a canal like water view due to some streets built up on fingers that extend into the "intercostal" waterway.

As far as the hotels, I've never stayed at one because our family lives locally. The Pier 60 House is very new and looks nice. The Hyatt is slightly new and is nice as well. Both centrally located. The Palm Pavillion Inn is on the northern end of Clearwater Beach. While it was built over 20 years ago, it is kept up very nice. The Sandpearl is the most expensive but most accommodating, and is one of a few that is actually located on the beach itself.

I hope this information helps. Enjoy your vacation!

The most fun we have had in that general area is right on the beach. I love the mom-and-pop places where you step out of your room and right onto the beach. Warning tho, they can be run down so don't rely on pictures alone.

The beaches aren't even sand...they are white powder.

We are staying at the Hyatt Clearwater for business trip in April. Rooms are 600 sq ft and up and each room has a mini kitchen. Property is on the beach, but looks like you have to cross a road to get to the beach. Hyatt has a $25 per night resort fee and $16 daily parking fee.

Pier 60 is new. It is a short walk to the beach, not beach front. I didn't research it much. The price between the Hyatt and Pier 60 was similar, but your mileage my vary.

FYI - The Hilton is also beachfront.
