So Cal cruisers, ? for you all....

Kaitlin's Mom, I'll be the lone voice here representing the opposing POV on Carnival :). I've only been on 2 cruises total: first was Disney Magic, 7 night, in a category 2 suite with the whole family (husband and 3 kids). Very deluxe, of course, and I fell in love with cruising. Couldn't wait to go again, but living here in SoCal it isn't very feasible to fly to FL for a quick getaway. My daughter and I talked a friend and her daughter into a 4-night cruise during Spring break. This was everything that many people warn against--older Carnival ship (Ecstasy), short cruise, Spring break. A recipe for sure disaster. Well, we were very pleasantly surprised. Yes, the ship is older than the Disney ships and it shows in some places, but it's kept clean and well maintained. The food, IMHO, was much better than Disney and the service was at least equal. I think Carnival may have earned a poor reputation years ago, and lots of folks aren't willing to give them another chance (can't say I blame them). But I think you'll be pleasantly surprised if you do. As you know, Baja Mexico isn't the Caribbean but still, I think we're lucky to live where we have the option of a cruise without the journey to get there.
I wrote a detailed report of my Ecstasy cruise and would be happy to email it to you if you like. Have a great trip, whatever you decide!

Mobetby - Thanks for the link - that looks great!!! I love shopping as well~~~ Any chance I get to go away and shop without me little one asking to get EVERYTHING!!!!

Ourdogcisco - We actually are going to Vegas in Sept - Can't wait!! We are going to try and see "O" as well as shop and visit the pool and spa - We just know with a cruise, sometimes it is better to book far in advance. That is why I am looking into it now -

miksicnarf - I would love to read your trip report! My carnival cruise was 8 years ago, so it sounds like maybe they have revamped some things -

We were just trying to think of something different to do - We have done the driving to a hotel, stay, shop, etc. A cruise would be something different -

We took the 7 day Mexican Riviera Cruise thourgh Carnival Elation (my very first cruise) and it was only OK. My husband said he would NEVER go back on Carnival because the food wasn't great and service was only so-so. We had a category 12 cabin (best they had) and we got no special treatment what so ever....

By comparison we took a Holland America cruise to Alaska with the Penthouse suite and were treated wonderfully. The food was excellent.

We will be going on a Disney cruise but not for over a year... I can't wait!!

There are very little cruising options from here....

Maybe we should all pull our money together and put together a cruise line worthy of the east coast ones - Why are they so bad here?

Then we will all become millionaires!!!

We could do a "MOMS ONLY" cruise line where the waiters were all GQ looking and waited on your every whim and need -

OK - Who's with me!!

count me in Kaitlin'sMom ... I'd like to go on that first voyage ... where do I sign up? Hawaii seems like a nice destination!
