Kaitlin's Mom, I'll be the lone voice here representing the opposing POV on Carnival
. I've only been on 2 cruises total: first was Disney Magic, 7 night, in a category 2 suite with the whole family (husband and 3 kids). Very deluxe, of course, and I fell in love with cruising. Couldn't wait to go again, but living here in SoCal it isn't very feasible to fly to FL for a quick getaway. My daughter and I talked a friend and her daughter into a 4-night cruise during Spring break. This was everything that many people warn against--older Carnival ship (Ecstasy), short cruise, Spring break. A recipe for sure disaster. Well, we were very pleasantly surprised. Yes, the ship is older than the Disney ships and it shows in some places, but it's kept clean and well maintained. The food, IMHO, was much better than Disney and the service was at least equal. I think Carnival may have earned a poor reputation years ago, and lots of folks aren't willing to give them another chance (can't say I blame them). But I think you'll be pleasantly surprised if you do. As you know, Baja Mexico isn't the Caribbean but still, I think we're lucky to live where we have the option of a cruise without the journey to get there.
I wrote a detailed report of my Ecstasy cruise and would be happy to email it to you if you like. Have a great trip, whatever you decide!
