So bummed I didn't get seven dwarfs mine train

Thank you so much for all of the advice!!! I am so scared that I am going to mess things up.i just went in and picked just me and mine train was available at 650. So I pushed the arrow and it confirmed me. But then I went back and changed me back to thunder mountain because I didn't want to take a chance that the others in my group would all get on. I could not believe it confirmrd me without asking me confirmation. If there is a way to make sure we all could switch I would do it. Any suggestions? I used the app because I thought it would be easier.
Any advice appreciated.

I'm not a FP expert, but I can tell you that we were at MK during Christmas week and we went to Mine Train first thing and walked on. We arrived enough prior to rope drop that we were fairly near the front, although there were at least a couple hundred people in front of us.

Sorry you did not get it. i agree, keep checking. Sometimes something will pop up.

I did not care for the ride. I would have gone berserk if I had been in the super long stand by line for this ride.

I am older and the little jerky turns (seemed like there were several in a row) did not sit well with me!

It is not a rough ride, but there is something to be desired. I have ridden all kinds of coasters in my day. This need more fluidity. If that makes sense.

So, do not, I repeat DO NOT stand in the regular line for this one.

Good luck.

We have done 7DMT at rope drop several times and it has always been a walk on for us. We usually get there at and hour (or 45 min if we are running late) prior to rope drop, and stand by the right side tunnel. In our experiences it was a very organized walk and no running or pushing to get there. The later you get there though, the further back you will be with the crowd walking, I suppose. For us its worth it to get there that early :)

I'm not sure I understand the benefit of waiting outside the gate for an hour, when you can simply ride later in the day without the wait. The longest we have ever waited for 7D was 20 minutes and that was the week the ride opened in 2014.

This sounds similar to the Toy Story phenomenon at DHS, where guests wait at the gate for an hour just to ride once with a short wait, when you can wait until later and ride 4 times with the same time commitment.

Did you try copy or breaking up your group?

we are so bummed that we did not get seven dwarfs mine train. Any suggestions? We will be there for rope drop but have heard they're still can be a long wait because everybody runs to it. Also, any suggestions on touring plan? We got 1030 -1130 for thunder mountain and 1:30 for space mountain and 830 for electrical parade. We are a group of 10.

I tried to do a touring plans but when I put in our fast pass times it says it won't work....

You all have been so helpful!

Get there for rope drop. Walk fast, weave in and out if people safely. You will be fine.

Not everyone can stay until almost park close when the waits drop far enough to be able to ride the very popular rides like SDMT 4 times in 1 hr.

No matter how much I may want to ride SDMT, see A&E, or ride TSMM/Soarin /TT, I'm not likely to keep my toddler out until almost park close to be able to take advantage of those low wait times.

To be clear, we don't do the 1 hr prior to park open wait either..she doesn't wake up that early. But if I were going to choose one over the other, I'm going to pick waking her up early over staying out too late...early waking is a lot easier to adjust to for her.

We got to the park shortly before rope drop (I'm talking 5 minutes) and power walked to 7DMT- we hardly waited 10 minutes. You WALK for 10 minutes of the queue to start anyway! So all in all was 20 minutes IN the "line" but just 10 minutes of waiting. Don't worry about it.

I understand. Thankfully, we've always been able to stay late and take advantage of the smaller crowds and shorter lines. Even when they were little, it was always easier to let the kids stay up late than to make them get up early.

To be honest it's not really worth a long wait. It's a great ride, for sure, but stand in line more than 40 minutes? No way.

For us we are early risers and we get excited on MK days so getting there 45min to an hour before rope drop is just something we enjoy doing. We take breakfast with us for the kids and they eat while we wait. This was a tradition for us before 7DMT, so being able to walk on that as well now is just an added bonus. We also schedule 7DMT as a FP later in the day, or at night, so we can experience it more than once. Our touring for MK usually starts at rope drop and we take a break around lunch, and return at night for more touring. By being ahead of the crowds we generally are able to stay "ahead" for the entire morning getting all the rides in and take a good size break in the afternoon to recharge so we can go back at night. Everyone does things differently, this is what works for our family. Might not make sense for everyone. That's okay.

We tried that one night...DD fell asleep while we were out, and woke up when we got back to the hotel and didn't want to go back to sleep. I'd much rather deal with poky waking up than be up at 2am because she had a nice nighttime nap and doesn't want to go back to sleep ;) Hopefully she'll outgrow that...until then, we're not likely to keep her out til park close (when park close is like 11pm, 12am, 1am, etc).

It won't be too long and you'll be doing pm EMH. My bunch thinks the 1-3 am session is the best. Last summer, we hung around and did some shopping afterwards and didn't get back to Fort Wilderness until 5 am.

Fortunately, FP+ gave us the ability to move our Soarin FP from noon to 2 pm the next day and we got to sleep in a bit.

I have run out of time to read all of these posts, so I will just say this... I tried to get a FP for 7DMT when I went and couldn't so I did this.. As the parade started up in the evening I decided to use that time to ride it. The sign said 70 minute wait time. I shrugged and just decided to bite the bullet. I got in the standby queue and walked for what seemed quite a ways before I ran into the line. Long story short, from the time I walked into the entrance, rode the ride and cleared the exit was 32 minutes. Certainly a reasonable wait time for a ride that is that popular. The parade happens every night so if you want to see that it's a good idea to be sure that you go to MK at least two days or park hop for it. Personally, I have seen the parade about a gazillion times so I was happy to skip it for the ride.

Wow,@goofyernmost, exact same story here!

I didn't get FP+ either and getting out of bed for RD is not my idea of a vacation. During my family's recent Xmas vacation, when everyone had gathered for the parade, we hopped in the SDMT line. Posted wait time was also listed at 70 minutes at that point. We got through to the front in 26 minutes... I timed it. We've also seen the parade many many times, so none of us had any problem skipping it. We tried the same with Peter Pan's Flight. Almost worked until the ride broke down :( Oh well, it was an overall :D

That doesn't take into account the times they've closed the queue an hour before park closing.

Try breaking up your group into smaller groupings as 10 might be tough to get at one time.

Here is a thread where I explain how to use the touring plans when you already have your FP times. http://www.disboards.com/threads/using-fp-with-touring-plan-and-changing-fp-question.3474393/

There really isn't any way to know whether you can get mine train for everyone without just doing it. Yes, you risk losing your other FP, so it's about how much you want them and whether you are willing to take that risk.
Use your Parade FP as the one you want to change, not Big Thunder.
The parade FP is really not a good choice
