So, ARE the in room safes SAFE???

We always use the safes at our resorts (only had the digital kind) but we've only stayed at CR and SOG, still we have never had a problem. We normally store cash, jewelry, electronics and some medications in the safe.

Someone got into our safe at an offsite hotel years ago.
I saw on 20/20 or some show like that how they can brush something over the numbers and then after you have used it they can tell which numbers you punched and figure out the sequence of those 4 numbers. So if I have to use it, I touch all the numbers to mess the system.
I was also on a cruise a few months ago and someone had money taken from their safe.
We have combination locks for our suitcases that I trust much more than the safes. We lock several of our suitcases and no one could tell which ones are the dirty clothes and which one has the good stuff.

Wasn't by chance this type of safe was it? :scared1:

the only problem we had is that when we had packed up our car to leave, we realized we left all our wallets in the safe in the room!! we sorta hightailed it back up there before we left :)

We use the room safe each time we are at POR. Never had a problem. Just take the key with us. We've kept cash, wallets, cells, etc. And, now that I've read someone else locks the meds up, too....that is next on my list.

Our last 5 or so stays have been at WL, courtyard and standard room and we had key safes, in 42 trips to WDW, we've never encountered a digital safe yet and we only stay at deluxes.

Poly has digital safes..Ours was the kind where you pick your own code..this was CL though, so I don't know if the other longhouses have the key style.

Our stuff was secure..the safes aren't huge though so bigger size laptops may have trouble fitting in there.

We stayed in the Tokelau Longhouse, in a Garden View room, and we had the digital safe too.

We have always put our extra money and valuables in the safes, and have never had a problem. We have never had a digital one, though. We will be staying at the Poly in 7 days:cool1: so maybe we will see one then.

I have twice forgotten to close the safe - with wallets, cash, jewelry, plane tickets, etc. inside. Once was at CSR and the other CBR. Both times, I returned to the room to find a note from management saying that mousekeeping contacted them once they found the safe to be open and that the safe was locked by management. Nothing was missing or disturbed either time. Now, I'm not saying to leave them unlocked because we probably just got a couple of honest mousekeeping people but I have never questioned whether they are safe.

We have used the safes at the resorts we have stayed but they are not very big which I dont like at all. We don't carry much cash since that is easily lost. If the Credit Card is lost I can do something about it but not cash. The safes we have had are just big enough to hold the wallets and not much else since they are very thin. What is bothersome about this is now days people are traveling with expensive laptops and camera systems. WDW safe's don't provide any way to lock those up in the room.

We have insurance coverage if something gets stolen or lost but I wish WDW would provide bigger safes.

Later,
Dan
