So about this Hurricane - 10/7 Dream cancelled, 10/7 Magic Canadian, 10/8 now 10/9 Fantasy 6-night

Being that you are an airline pilot, is it safe to say that you have no flight cost for this vacation? As has already been stated, you have the option to take out insurance, did you? Having lived in the Orlando area for a number of years, surely you were aware that hurricane season is something to consider when booking a vacation to Florida. I don't understand faulting DCL when you know that nobody controls the weather.
I wish these boards would allow people the courtesy/therapy of venting without being made to feel even worse.....

On social media, someone just complained that Carnival cut their cruise short to come back to PC ASAP.

According to Gene Sloan of USA Today, Port Canaveral just issued an evacuation order to all landslide operations.

USCG to close port by Wednesday afternoon. No cruise ships allowed back in until storm has passed.

PORT CANAVERAL EVACUATION ORDERED IN WAKE OF HURRICANE MATTHEW
10/4/2016
PORT-CANAVERAL-EVACUATION-ORDERED-IN-WAKE-OF-HURRI.aspx

PORT CANAVERAL, FL—October 4, 2016 – With forecasts indicating severe weather conditions related to Hurricane Matthew, Port Canaveral CEO John Murray today issued an evacuation order for landside operations. The order affects Jetty Park campers, marinas, and all Port businesses and tenants. The deadline to evacuate is noon on Wednesday.

In addition to the land-side evacuation, the U.S. Coast Guard has given notice that the Canaveral harbor will close by tomorrow afternoon. Under the Captain of the Port order, no vessel traffic--including cruise and cargo ships, as well as recreational and commercial fishing boats --will be allowed in harbor until after the storm passes and the order is lifted.

“This is a serious storm and the protection of people and property is our primary concern,” said Port Canaveral CEO John Murray. “We expect high winds and storm surge throughout the port and have urged the Port community to prepare their facilities so business can resume as quickly as possible after the storm.”

Port Canaveral has not shut down operations due to severe weather since the 2004 storms when the harbor was closed for 11 days to ship traffic.

This statement from the Discussion on the 5:00 NHC explains some of the uncertainty.
"When a hurricane is forecast to take a track roughly parallel to a coastline, as Matthew is forecast to do from Florida through South Carolina, it becomes very difficult to estimate impacts this far in advance. For example, only a small deviation of the track to the left of the NHC forecast could bring the core of a major
hurricane onshore, while a small deviation to the right could keep all of the hurricane-force winds offshore. It will likely take another day or so for the potential impacts of Matthew in the United States to clarify."

Which is exact why the safe and prudent decision at this point (like Port Canaveral, CCL, Delta, Swan hotel) is to err on the side of caution and make the call now. Allow people to start making the changes they need to make without penalty. #disneygreed

Mere speculation at this point. But IF the current models are accurate, no ship will be able to dock at PC until Saturday (Miami and FLL will also be affected, and I don't think Disney wants to bus people up I-95 during a Hurricane). Likely, the Dream will hang out for an extra day in the Gulf and come in on Saturday. Either way, I feel for those with the 10/7 sail date.

I don't think it will be up to DCL as to when they return to PC. I believe it's more probable than not that PC will be closed Friday and possibly beyond. This is a fierce and damaging storm. The channels are dredged for shipping and will need to be checked ok to ensure depths weren't adversely affected due to storm surges (per buddy just now retired USN Captain). And he said that doesn't happen overnight.

Totally agree

i'm very impressed with jet blue for taking this decision so early...
Delta did the same. Swan let me cancel no issues.

It's only DCL that is still saying that no changes to the 10/7 have been made at this time! Apparently DCL meteorologists are wicked smahht. LMAO

Delta did the same last night.

we were screwed by AA back in 2011, when they didn't make the decision until a day before the hurricane hit..
we changed our flights a day before that and had to buy 2 brand new tickets for over $4,000 (yup, over $2,000 per ticket - two brand new one way tickets overseas rather than just a change fee or no change fee due to a major hurricane hitting new york) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thankfully, American Express had our backs and fought AA over what they'd done to us. :)

and that's the reason all my major purchases are via my AMEX card...don't leave home without it...:)

LOL.

Looks like an extended waiting game for all involved. I hope everyone that's really impacted by it are safe. Ruined vacations are bad but being safe is # 1.

I know you just really want to complain but seriously Delta is allowing people to change their travel dates without fees not cancel, most hotels allow you to cancel within 24 hours for whatever reason, you just don't have the same contract agreement with Disney. None of the other cruise lines are letting people cancel except Carnival and then ONLY if their itinerary changes. If Disney cancels you get your money back, if they don't then you have to make the decision whether you're canceling per your contract and then without insurance you bear the costs. That's just how a contract works.

They may still cancel but harping over and over that you hate the contract you signed gets old.

Do you want to know what gets old on here? The condescending comments. If you don't like the complaining from someone who likely paid thousands for their vacation, and are frustrated at being in limbo and having NO IDEA what is going on, then skip over these posts.
