So about this Hurricane - 10/7 Dream cancelled, 10/7 Magic Canadian, 10/8 now 10/9 Fantasy 6-night

Yes, quite recently the Wonder dropped off its passengers from the Panama Canal repo on the same day that one of the Dream class ships was in port. They used another pier. In this case though there are already several other ships due to port that day so I am not sure what is going to happen.
Well, they have at least 5 cruise terminals at Port Canaveral. At at least 3-5 other docks for putting ships at. They could hold the Fantasy outside the port until the Dream has been cleared, move the Dream to a cargo dock, and the dock the Fantasy for "normal" debarking/embarkation.

If you were booked as on Onboard Booking with the 10% discount would it stack with the new 20%?
Typically OBCs given by Disney are not stackable. And these may not be. Or they could be. No way of knowing until someone asks DCL. But, if you move the cancelled cruise, it's not considered a "future" cruise. the 20% applies to a future cruise not the rebooked one.

Was that clear? I mean, if you opt to move your cruise you're still getting the 10% on the cruise you're taking. Plus you can get 20% off a future cruise (one you haven't booked yet).

Not sure how the onboard booking would work, if the new future cruise doesn't fall within the 24 month window required. Maybe anyone in that position would be wavered so they can carry it over. Only DCL knows.

You also have the option of cancelling for a full refund... there is a huge storm in the way. I'm not trying to apologize for them at all, but I am not sure what else they should be doing? Aside from deciding this sooner that is.

Agreed. This is like the lady they interviewed on our news from a Carnival ship that left Baltimore and rerouted north and docked here yesterday. She was all "I understand there is a storm and our safety is what they're concerned with. But they should have done something about it." So no, clearly she did NOT understand the severity of the storm. Or maybe even that no human has control over the weather?

The Oct 7 Magic has been changed to a Canadian Coast cruise. Our recompense is $100 per person stateroom credit OR 20% off a future cruise. I'm pretty upset at such paltry incentives. DCL changes our "go somewhere warm and visit WDW" cruise to "go to Canada in October" and doesn't even offer us as much recompense as the cost of the park hopper ticket we're losing?

Since there is no charge for the park hopper we can't expect any monetary value for it. On every cruise with PC as a stop there are people who ask for credit for it since they don't want to go to the parks and they are denied. I'm not trying to change your mind, just saying how they treat the park hopper pass. I'm on the fence about whether I should still go or not. To my kids they just want the kids club. I wanted warm weather.

Well, I guess y'all have some answers now. That's good. Disney will figure out how to do a better job with this when they have more ships and run into it more often. Carnival has 12 ships impacted by this, they're used to it. That said, none of the lines can make decisions too quickly due to the changing nature of the storms AND trying to balance customer safety and customer satisfaction.

I'm still amused by the "they should do more for me" comments. Read your cruise contract. They aren't obligated to do anything at all for you. Period. They can take you to a different port, switch you over to a Costa ship, then float around the ocean for seven days and call it good enough. Not saying they would, but they certainly can.

Just my opinion... DCL is in a no-win situation with regards to making an announcement. If they announce a cancellation, people will demand to know options and what the ships plan to do. If DCL waits until those options can be announced, people are upset because no announcement of cancellation has been made earlier.
I couldn't agree with this more. I'm glad that they've now made an announcement on what they will do, but I'm really glad that they didn't do it any earlier than when they were ready to. Nothing worse than having to say, "Just kidding; here's the real announcement."

You also have the option of cancelling for a full refund... there is a huge storm in the way. I'm not trying to apologize for them at all, but I am not sure what else they should be doing? Aside from deciding this sooner that is.
This. Totally. Disney does not control the weather as much as we'd all like them to.

Agreed; you can get a full refund and then get a future cruise at a 20% discount. Seems like a good deal to me considering they don't have control over the weather (they are not doing this because of mechanical problems or anything)
I think it's pretty cool that they give such a nice discount when weather is the issue - again, they can't control it.

I guess I'm just grumpy because I can't book months in advance so we always sail *GT rates, which are already 20% off. So it's useless compensation to me. I knew when I booked that it was hurricane season and there was a chance that the cruise would be cancelled. Or that we'd miss all our intended ports, or that we'd drive around in circles in the ocean for 8 days. It never occurred to me that they'd send the ship to a completely different *climate*. My bad. I'll take the full refund, which is practically what I'd have gotten out of my travel insurance anyway, and be grateful that DCL didn't wait until I was already on the ship, with suitcases packed full of clothes for warm weather, before sending me to Canada where the daytime highs are in the 50s.

Fantasy just left Falmouth. Now let's see where it's going.

Of course there is a charge for the Park Hopper ticket, it's just rolled into your cruise fare. DCL is very clear, though, that they will not be offering credits for it if you choose not to use it. I was simply grumping that we were losing a port day with a excursion and being recompensed with an OBC that wasn't even close to the value of the excursion we lost, but still paying the full cost of the cruise as originally booked. I am well aware of what the cruise contract states and of course I don't have a legal case about the difference, but I can still be annoyed by what feels like a paltry gesture.

I want to book excusrsions for Canada. Will they open them? Or do I have to wait until I'm on the cruise??

Also what are the chances of room upgrades with people cancelling?

I just wanted to offer  all around, this is a really stressful situation and patience runs thin when in most in need of that long awaited vacation. :grouphug:

First, I am so sorry for all of you. It's been quite a few days....
With regard to the weather in Canada vs what you had been looking forward to....I liken it to our 6 day vacation in Hawaii- where it rained. Every. Single. Day. Or our WDW vacation - where the temps dropped to freezing for the first time in I can't even remember how many years- for that particular time of year. We honestly wore our entire suitcase on our bodies each day in an attempt to keep warm- and we had booked Deluxe for the great pool! If the kids are looking forward to the clubs- then go for it! Maybe book yourself a spa appointment (or some other treat) in place of what you would have spent at WDW?
Safe and happy travels to all- whenever they may finally occur.

Fantasy just left Falmouth. Now let's see where it's going.

She's headed west. Normally would be heading east. Fantasy will likely sail west around Cuba.
Guess Commodore Tom isn't aboard. He's been known to chase storms. lol

Good luck to all.

I feel for everyone too... I can see why people would be especially upset about not being able to sail to WDW and CC.
Canada is beautiful but it's a completely different vacation than you've been expecting.
It's too bad ships can't dock in Ontario, we are having really warm temps still mid 70's.. Nova Scotia is much cooler but... Having said I would probably still go. I bet Dcl will make the cruise special and I hear Halifax is just gorgeous. Just bring a couple of extra sweaters. It will be cooler than Bahamas but not freezing...
You will still be on a Disney cruise!!!

I'm sorry for everyone who has had to change their sailings, its never nice. I will however let you all know that here in Canada we have been having a warm October so far and it looks like it will carry on through the next little while. Will it be in the 80's, no, however you will find several days in the 70's and a few in the 60's. No one needs to put on their winter coats quite yet. Make the most of it, Canada offers some amazing sites.
Again, sorry for everyone's disappointment. I would be sad to however that is mostly due to the fact I live in Canada and want something different. :flower3:

Agreed - in Ontario we've been having temps at at least the mid 70's still... I think Nova Scotia will be high 60's...
I don't expect temps in the mid 50's for at least another month. Talking about daytime highs.
I think a lot of people when they think Canada they imagine polar bears roaming the streets :cold:
Joking of course ;)

A cruise to Nova Scotia must be nice. You'll probably see different kinds of whales on your way. That part of the country looks amazing.
