I have heard in the past that you can not take snowglobes on airplanes does anyone know if this is true or has anybody done this in the past. I collect snowglobes from our vacations and I would love to get one from disney but I don't want to get to the airport and find out it is not allowed.

Snow globes contain liquid. Since TSA enacted the 3-1-1 policy, snow globes that contain more than 3 oz of water are not allowed past security. If you try, TSA will confiscate it.

Snow globes need to be well packed in your checked bag or shipped home.

When we were there last year I did not know about this rule so my daughter had the snowglobe in her bag, but when we got to security they told me I had to have it shipped to my home from the Disney Store in the airport. A 15 dollar snowglobe cost me 20 dollars to ship! Oh well at least I know now! But they never said anything about confiscating it, they were really nice about it.:thumbsup2 Nothing like the people at O'hare:scared1:

They are not allowed on planes, and in the display of snowglobes, there is a sign that reminds you that you cannot take it on the plane; it must be in your checked baggage.

The other poster must not have read the sign - it is clearly sitting right in front of the snowglobes. You cannot miss it.

Sorry, I meant they are not allowed in your carry-on baggage; they must be in your checked baggage.

It is also printed on every merchandise receipt from WDW.

If you purchase one, tell the CM that you need it packed to fly. They will supply you with plenty of packing.

I was able to take mine after I was pulled aside. I was shocked as I had no idea it wasn't allowed but I guess it made sense.

jpeppers - I go every year the Saturday after Thanksgiving. A woman behind me had three homemade pecan pies, for her DS, and they were confiscated. Anything even resembling liquid, gel, etc. is not allowed on the plane.

And boy, was she hot!

This is true on our last trip they informed us in the stores when I was looking at one that they must be shipped to your home or packed in your checked luggage as you can't bring them on the flight

In 2006 after the airlines banned the liquids and etc, all the stores in WDW that sold snow globes had signs which said they can not be packed in your carry-on bags. Now they have since took those signs down since then, however that rule still applies today.

We ran into this a few years ago. I had purchased a tiny sno-globe for my daughter (she picked it out and I then went back to get it as a birthday gift for her). I never even gave it a thought about being restricted and had it in my carry-on. The agent pulled my bag aside and started going through it and found the wrapped globe. He asked if it was a sno-globe and explained that we would have to ship it or leave it behind. As he is saying this, my daughter is standing there looking surprised and said you bought me the globe I wanted for my birthday. The agent felt like crap after that and opened the globe wrapping to see that it was really small and actually let us go and apologized to my daughter. We got lucky but I would never try that again. I honestly never even gave it a thought as being restricted - at that time they didn't have all the signs that they do now.

And to add to that...tiny globes aren't allowed b/c they aren't marked with the ounces of water inside of them.

Wonder why they dno't do that? Might be nice of them. :)

I also have a large snowglobe collection and I tell them at the register that I am shipping these items to my home. . It usually runs under $10 to ship my entire package home (snowglobe and any additional items I have purchased) but when you ship you don't pay Florida sales tax so that lowers the shipping costs. Another good reason to ship is that if it arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. If it becomes damaged in your suitcase there is nothing that WDW can do. You cannot bring any snowglobe on the planes.

From the TSA website- Prohibited Item List:

Snow globes and like decorations regardless of size or amount of liquid inside, even with documentation. Carryon-No Checked-Yes

When we have bought snowglobes, we do what MinnieLee suggests. It makes it so much easier. Disney, even the outlets, will ship any purchase to your home address. It used to be extremely inexpensive, but the last few years they have raised the shipping charge a little, but it is still a bargain and saves the hassel of trying to pack a lot, or anything fragile. And, as MinnieLee mentioned, they will not charge Florida sales tax if you are shipping the items out of state which helps to offset the shipping charge. One year a snowglobe we had shipped got to our house shattered. I called Disney and they had a new one shipped out immediately. Didn't even ask us to send the old one back.

Naw--the TSA just thought they'd have themselves a little snackypoo. I'm serious--they probably ate them. Where's Carol--she'll get going on this one!

In 2006 I didn't realize snowglobes were included in the whole "liquid" ban and so, at security checkpoint, they told me I could not bring it on the plane. I had to get out of line, run to the Disney Store, and pay $6.00 to ship it home. Disney DID refund me the money, however, with Disney Dollars which I thought was very nice. They were apologetic that they did not warn me it wouldn't be allowed as carry on. It was an oversight on my part, I was just trying to keep it safe, but yes, they made me go ship it home!

My DD started a snowglobe collection at Disney and everytime we bought a snowglobe, we were told specifically that they were not allowed on carryons.

Well the snowglobe was not in a case it was on a table and there was NO sign. Yes it did say so on the bottom of the receipt but the CM didn't say anything when I was checking out. This had been our first trip in 12 years so forgive me if I don't know all the rules!
