Snowflake children

<------ That's my son over there! He doesn't define me, heck, he doesn't even look like that any more as he's about six years older than he was when that pic was taken. It just seemed like a good pic for a Disney board and seeing his cute little face makes me smile.

I don't mind saying that mothering was my full time job for quite awhile. I even homeschooled the kids. They were biggest part of my life for a long time and I devoted most of my energies to them. But they're teenagers now and doing their own thing, and that phase of my life has passed. Now I'm all about my writing.

So I don't think there's anything wrong with being a full-time Mommy, just so long as you're aware that the job won't last forever. By the time they're 12, you're only working part-time, and by 18 you should be retired to nothing more than an advisory role.

There is nothing wrong with be a full time mommy, I was one for many, many years, but part of your job of being a Mom is to teach your kids how to deal with the real world. You probably did more of that then you think. Do your kids know how to do laundry, clean their rooms, clean a bathroom, cook, etc. It doesn't mean they have to do those things all the time but that they know HOW if necessary.

I usually do the laundry but all the kids know HOW to do the laundry and will do some when necessary as one example.

We were just at DD's Open House for 6th grade parents at the middle school last night. While we were there, we were given information on how to access the "Parent Portal" which gives us information on our kids' grades, missing homework assignments, etc. Then the teacher gave us her contact information. I found it interesting that after she gave us the contact info, she took time to tell us that it would be best if, when checking the portal, we notice a missing assignment, the child should come to school and ask the teacher about it, rather than the parent contact the teacher. I got the impression that in the past, she's had to deal with many helicopter parents :rotfl2:.
