I am one of those unfortunates who was stranded by yesterday's blizzard.
Yesterday was really a mess. When it was time to go to the airport, it didn't seem like it would be possible to fly because the weather was so bad. However, the airline was still saying that the flight was on, so I had no choice but to leave for the airpoirt. I'm grateful for the taxi driver who took me because the roads were really bad. (I would not have driven on roads like that, and I even told him it would be OK to turn back if he thought it was too unsafe.) When I got to the airport, I was surprised to see that my flight still wasn't canceled. They just kept not canceling it. It got to the point where we were actually on the plane, and they were playing the safety video. At that point, I wasn't sure how pleased I was that the flight was apparently proceeding because it didn't seem like it would be safe to take off.
Anyway, they then took us off the plane becuase they said there would be a two-hour delay, but within five minutes of that, the flight was canceled. I was put on a flight later that day, but I didn't really think there was much chance of that not being canceled, and that was soon canceled as well. Getting home from the airport was a challenge. My transportation options were limited. A train got me fairly close to home, but I had to walk about three miles in the snow.
I'm now on a flight for later today. So unfortunately, I'm essentially missing two days at Disney because I couldn't get there yesterday and I'm arriving so late today. I was only supposed to stay at WDW through 2/14, so the delay took away most of my Disney time.
Fortunately Member Services really helped make the best of a bad situation. Because not getting there was out of my control, they refunded my points for last night. Also, they were able to get me a room for the night of 2/15, so that extra day will help make up for the time I lost at the front end. That room is at OKW. I don't mind switching resorts. I was grateful to get anywhere.
Anyway, I hope my flight today is uneventful. Wish me luck.
