2nd friday in a row....the girls will be very excited when they wake up

5:16am phone rings- I look its a cell phone- if my eyes would open all the way up I would have noticed it was one of the highway guys....same guy that wanted to dump the snow into my driveway LAST week!

"Hey Bran guess what"

"whaaaaaaat?"

'go back to sleep they cancelled school"

"JERK!!!!!!!"

So here I sit, up since 5:15, on my 2nd pot of coffee...watching the snow fall. So far, its just snow, and probably close to 3 inches

We had a "wintery mix"...sleet, some snow, now rain which is creating a HUGE, SLOPPY mess outside!!!!

I hate these kind of days. We live in southern Connecticut, which seems to be on some sort of "rain/snow" line, so often, when folks just 30-60 minutes north of us are getting beautiful snow, we are getting slippery, sleety slop.

We have another Friday snow day as well, although we are getting mostly ice.

It's sitll a light fluffy snow here...according to teh weather god, its suppose to turn around noon time, but we'll see how right they are.

We're back to a 4-7 of snow, last night we were down to a 1-3 of snow, so who knows!

We have a winter storm warning starting at 1pm today. The city of Buffalo closed the schools because they know the afternoon release time will be a mess. NONE of the suburbs closed so we'll see what happens. I don't go in to work until 4pm so I'll be picking them up. I'm thinking we MIGHT get early dismissal if the snow starts sooner. BTW the storm warning is in effect until 1am Sunday!!! We could get some serious snowfall here. I live north of the city and we usually don't get the big storms, but this snow band is expected to be metro Buffalo including the north suburbs. YUCK!

Wow, we dont do early releases here. The thought is that by keeping the kids in school longer, it gives the highway crew longer to clear the roads, and longer for the salt to work.

That said- they put a new "delay" policy into effect this year, and so far, we haven't used it. The thought was with a delay, they dont have to make up the day, but given that the 2 storms we've had have started about 2-3am, they have just gone and cancelled fully here...

However, I wont send mine on a delay day. Knowing what I know after working with the highway crew for 4 years, if its bad enough for a delay, it wont get any better in 2 hours..

Generally here, the highway supers will tell the transportation super to cancel but the superintendent of schools has the final say. If i hear from the highway crew that its not good, i wont send them even if the super school is on.. Its the guys in the plow trucks who know what the roads are like, not the guy at home 45 minutes away sippin his coffee lookin out the window.

We have 2-hour delays all the time. They called one last night and it ended up, we didn't get the mess that the other towns got. :rotfl: Lucky ducky kids.

We don't always get delays for bad roads either -- sometimes we get them if it's really cold. Between all the kids who have to stand out in the freezing cold and the buses having a hard time starting, they don't like to open school until later in the morning. :confused3
