In regards to Brave....I didn't really pay attention to how the men were portrayed. I was more focused on the relationship between Merida and her mother. I think all teenage girls should see this movie! I know that me and my sisters always gave my mom a hard time, didn't want to listen to her, etc. I was so happy that I saw this movie with Madison. It was just nice to see a Disney princess that actually HAD a mother! I know that Tiana's mom was in Princess and the Frog, but she wasn't really a princess. With Rapunzel, her parents weren't really in the movie much. But, look back at Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Snow White, Cinderella....no moms!!!

I never saw Brother Bear, so this whole story line was new to me. The animation was just amazing and took my breath away. And I too LOVED Merida when she was little....what a little doll!

Shawna- I've never stayed at WL so I'm no help there at all. It's on my wish list though!

In regards to Brave. Rylan asked to see it so we went on Saturday. We got mid way through the movie and he asked to leave I don't think he realized it was a "princess" movie. Never got to see the end

We saw Brave on Friday. I liked a lot of it, but as my DH pointed out, parts of the storyline seemed like they copied Brother Bear too much. Even the fishing scene. I hope I'm not spoiling anything for those who haven't seen it.

All the men looked like buffoons in it I thought. Not sure why that's necessary, the whole point was to show this strong young woman, wouldn't it make sense that her father (who at one time was strong and brave too) would also be that way rather than silly?

I really liked Merida though. I thought she made a great heroine. I won't spoil the ending, but I liked the end result.
Oh, and the animation? HOLY CATS! The scenery was so well done, it looked real to me!! (and I've seen Scotland) - just beautiful.

Great deal on SoG! I used to love it when we could stay there. Now we have no military left in the family.

A lot of people have noticed and mentioned that parts of the film reminded them of Brother Bear. I noticed as well and completely agree with you about the entire movie, especially regarding the scenery.

We have not seen Brave yet - the downside to having a boy is most of the time I have to wait for the movie to come out on DVD to see anything remotely related to princesses!

We are in the middle of a heat wave - 104 today, 102 tomorrow and 90s for the next week. For the entire month of June we had less than a half inch of rain to go on record for the driest June and we're under a red flag warning today (in the midwest....yuck). We're under a burn ban, and I highly anticipate an emergency order banning fireworks. Some of the larger neighboring communties have already done so. It is so dry. Hope everyone else is staying cool.....

Less than 4 months until our trip....I can't wait. Still need to book airfare, but I'm waiting until I know something more concrete with the FD rumors. If what I'm seeing is true, FD will start the day after Ihad planned on arriving. We can do a room-only for one night and do the MNSSHP, or go the next day. We're using my SW rewards for our flights, so we'll only have to pay minimally for the flight (YEAH!).

What are your dates? We are going October 13-20 if you'll be around then! I hope you get FD! We will be driving (!) and staying at AKV and OKW. No dining plan this time. So far I have 3 ADRs. Kona breakfast, Ohana dinner and Boma dinner. Apparently all our restaurants must end in "a"!

That was us with banned fireworks last year...the kids were super bummed,but they totally understood why. I was going to ask also what your dates are!!

Sounds like it's HOT everywhere!! We hit 97 yesterday. Crazy! Although I really didn't think it felt that bad as long as we were in the shade. Humidity must not have been too terribly high. The temp is heading up again today. DS13 came back from a run this morning soaked in sweat.

Apparently it's scorching EVERYWHERE!!! We are getting a break from the heat according to our weather people--it's only gonna be in the lower 90s for the next few days! Really. a break. DANG!!!!
Shelly,..I will miss him, but he really enjoys his new school and he will be out the next week for Thanksgiving and doesn't want to be worrying about schoolwork while we are gone. This school is private--not public, so we would not get any grief over missed days, just a lot of work to catch up on. The other two are excited he isn't going because they knew he would be complaining the whole time about what he was missing out on here! Plus, they have never vacationed without him,so it's gonna be a fun, different experience for them.

Hi guys! We're also enjoying (!) some hot weather. Not quite as bad as others - but hot enough for me - low 90s.
I bought the kids an inflatable pool yesterday - two feet deep (at best!) and about 5 by 9 feet. Just something to cool off in if we don't want to go anywhere.

Shawna - that will be a different experience for you guys. I bet your younger two will have a blast, but in the end they will miss him! Too bad you're not going a month earlier- we could cross paths!

I'm taking it easy this week. My boss is on vacation all through next week too - so I'm able to do some working from home. The kids like that! I'm trying to get some little tasks done around the house. Yesterday Sarah took the Red Cross Babysitting class and is all excited about her new business! I need to help her with her business cards! Just a little for me! Is she really old enough for that?

Oh Sheree!! That's crazy!! nope, she's not old enough! I can't believe it!! She was so little when we met, or it seems like that! I think it's just nuts that all these little Disney kids are growing up...like Cole--can he be a year already?!! And gosh, Shelly's youngest son is really growing up from the shy little bitty guy that we were first introduced to!
I will have to call repeatedly for the chance to upgrade to a Club Level...lots of WDW calls in our future. If someone cancels, that's our opportunity,-if not, we are hoping they have some rooms they are hanging onto for Fall Discount time!!! It'll be nice there one way or the other, but since we can do it CL we want it! I called again today and asked & had them change all our ADRs from 5 guests to 4...so I won't call back for a while,..I don't like feeling obsessed with wanting CL...what happens will happen! The Lord knows if we need CL or not!
Okay...well, I am off to order some pizza or something for my crew...we had kids spend the night and I am sure they will be 'STARVING TO DEATH' here in a minute! Y'all enjoy your weekend!!

That is crazy that Sarah just finished a babysitting course. I think I was about her age though when I took a Red Cross course. I think she must have been about 7 years old when we met back in Jan 09.....Maddie was only 6! All these Snowbird kiddos grow up too fast! I still can't believe my little Cole is 1 already; and he's turned into a walking machine!!! Just last week he was barely taking 4 or 5 steps and now he walks everywhere. Just nuts.

Greetings from Tampa fl!! Yesterday was the wedding and it was STUNNING!! I have to tell you that one of the absolute best parts was that the officiant was Captain Jack Sparrow!! I kid you not, when I get home I'll post some pictures. Oh and I got to dance with him

I've got another week til I'm home. Tomorrow is Tampa Bay Rays game. Sunday heading to east coast fl (hopefully making a stop at the Disney Store). Monday heading to Atlanta for a couple Braves games, we've got a day in Alabama, a day in Kentucky then finally back in WI.

Greetings from Tampa fl!! Yesterday was the wedding and it was STUNNING!! I have to tell you that one of the absolute best parts was that the officiant was Captain Jack Sparrow!! I kid you not, when I get home I'll post some pictures. Oh and I got to dance with him

I've got another week til I'm home. Tomorrow is Tampa Bay Rays game. Sunday heading to east coast fl (hopefully making a stop at the Disney Store). Monday heading to Atlanta for a couple Braves games, we've got a day in Alabama, a day in Kentucky then finally back in WI.

It's scorching here too and the temperature's climbing! It's been a weird year here, we were having summer weather in the middle of March.

I finished work yesterday for the summer and start back with the family on September 2. The upcoming year will be my last year with them, as the squirts start school in September 2013 and will no longer need me to take care of them . I leave for England in just over a week (very excited!). Tomorrow's Canada Day, so everyone's getting ready to celebrate!

Sheree, I remember taking my babysitting course at 13 and my mom had the same reaction Funny how time flies.

I hope everyone is surviving the heat! Sounds nasty!

Wow, time really does fly you know. When those kids are going off and getting married, you are going to be at the wedding BAWLING your eyes out, wondering where the years went. Trust me. I have personal experience.

I bet you're excited for your trip! Where in England will you be going? Any plans to see Olympics stuff? I hope you'll share a few pictures when you get back!

It's funny how times does fly. I was thinking a couple weeks ago about how it's been 2 years since I graduated college, but it feels like yesterday when I was just starting! I will so cry when the kids get married, thinking about how little they used to be!

My itinerary goes 2.5 weeks in London (staying on Baker Street!), 3 days in Crawley, 1 day near Chester, 4 days in Stockport, 7 days in Doncaster, then back to London for 4 days and the final day, in which I leave!

Unfortunately, I couldn't get tickets to any events, but I am going to a torch relay in Crawley. I'll be going to Leavesden Studios for the Harry Potter set tour, as well as taking a night ride on The London Eye, going to Whipsnade Zoo, museums and going to Brighton as well. Also going to see Matilda, Sweeney Todd and War Horse. I've got other things mashed up in there (including resting!). There will definitely be a few pictures posted!

I've started a travel blog (although nothing's posted yet ), here. The password is bazinga .
