~Snowbird Chat 2~

I know for sure that Mac can run MS Word - I have the Microsoft Office pack installed on mine! You do have to get that version for Mac, but documents that I create on my PC at work can open in the Word for Mac program just fine.

We have converted all our home PCs to Mac now. There's only one thing I've found that I can't use and it's a work related network access issue. Apparently the remote network is not designed to be supported for Mac. So it's not Mac's fault, but just a limitation I have to deal with. Luckily, I don't need it much! I love the Mac! It's so easy to use, and they are supposed to be less susceptible to viruses and worms. That's in part due to the fact that there are way more PCs out there than Macs, but that's okay. One less issue to worry about.

Seems like its been forever since I've been on here....trying to catch up. :)

DH wants to switch to a MAC. It makes sense with all our other apple products. :) With having a laptop now for work, I don't need to worry about all connection issues with trying to remote in, so maybe we'll give it a shot sometime.

I enjoyed watching the celebration this morning for the Queen....it really is so neat to see how the country comes together when they are celebrating something. I missed the river pageant....saw some clips. The Queen almost looked lost as she was walking today without Prince Philip.

Well, I've been a "stay-at-home" mom for a week now. I have to say...I am loving it! It's amazing the change we've seen in DS just this week. He's much more calm. I'm really glad we were able to make this switch. Working about 20 hours a week from home.

Anxiously looking forward to our trip to Disney this fall. We were able to lock in the "old" ticket prices. Honestly, though, while the one-day hike is high, if you look at the average price with a multi-day ticket, I personally think its still a good deal. Now, the airfare is another matter altogether.... :crazy2:

Good morning Snowbirds! :flower3:

Glad to hear the working from home is going well...that's awesome! I was able to telecommute for several years and loved it.

Sarah, thanks for all the Baltic tips! We are also booked with SPB and I am VERY excited about it. I've heard nothing but good things about them and the city itself. I'd never heard of the Tallinn tunnels...we might have to check that out! :thumbsup2

It's been busy here with all the end-of-school-year things. Both boys had birthdays...how did they get so old already? :sad2: I think that also must mean that Cole had a birthday!
Happy 1st Birthday, Cole!
:bday:party::cake:

Hope everyone has a happy Disney day! :goodvibes

Thanks!!!! His birthday was Saturday and it was a crazy weekend. Madison and I had dance recitals on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon; the Buffalo Feis for Irish dancing was Saturday and then Tony and I had a wedding that evening. We're having Cole's birthday party this Saturday (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme). Today I'm taking Cole to get his 1 year pictures taken and then tomorrow is his 1 year check-up. Crazy!!!

Wow, that year flew by! I remember when you announced your pregnancy! Happy belated birthday Cole!!
:bday::cake:

Today is another milestone for us too. Sarah will graduate 5th grade! I never knew they even did that, but they have a little ceremony this afternoon at school. I will bring the tissues for sure! I'll try to post a picture later. They have t-shirts that the whole grade got with all their signatures on it - no cap and gown. She was so excited she got up at 6 (an hour earlier than normal) and wanted to shower. I let her go first!

Congratulations Sarah! :yay:

Do they move to a different school for 6th grade? It's interesting to me how differently they do it all over the US. My DS12 is wrapping up 6th grade next week and will move to middle school in the fall...no ceremony though. I'm sure he doesn't care!

Thanks! Yes, we start middle school in 6th grade here. Apparently they have 8th grade graduations too and then they start high school in 9th grade.
It was a nice ceremony - a bit long at parts, but it was so blasted hot in there - I thought we'd all melt!

Hello All! Haven't been on here for a while, things have been crazy. I'm still at the bakery and the owners decided to expand and let a store that is 1 hour away carry some of our items. So that means I've been working a ton more hours, but of course no raise, no promotions, nothing. Ugh, just the stress we're allowed to take on!:rotfl:

On top of that in 2 weeks I leave for the wedding in FL. The maid of honor fell 3 weeks ago and did something to her hip and can barely move now. So the rest of us have been stepping up and helping out. Also the bride has now decided that any little thing that happens is the end of the world. Basically this has just confirmed my thought process of me eloping someday.

Anywho, that's all from my little end of the world in WI. Hope everyone is doing well and is enjoying the first few days/weeks of summer!!

hey Red...take it easy with that job Honey!! Don't stress before the vaca!!! I agree,..the more of wedding stress/disasters you see make you not want to do it!! I loved our wedding, but if I did it over, it would have been even MORE simple, and would have asked for that $$ to take a more luxurious vacation...of course, Hind Sight is 20/20, right?!!

Happy first birthday, Cole! I hope he had a wonderful day!

Thank you!

This year FLEW by! He's such a little boy now and not a baby.

Congrats to Sarah! We have a "moving up" ceremony for 5th grade here. That will be me next year! :sad1:

Your schools sound like ours: Elementary is K-5, Middle school is 6-8 and High school is 9-12. When I lived in Syracuse it was K-6, 7 & 8, 9-12. I think that 6th grade belongs in middle school for sure.

Ticket price increases stink:scared1: This is why we have been so happt to take advantage of the YES programs at disney for our last 2 trips. We got 6 day park hoppers for 180$ each. You can't beat that deal. Everyone should do it if they have classes while you are in disney.

and for those who are considering Universal, we got our tickets at COSTCO. 139$ for a three day hopper that is good for 2 years.
I hope they offer the YES program for a long time, because I'd love to take advantage of it in the future.

Thanks Shawna! Funny, my laptop is an HP too and it has been a lemon from day one! I won't buy an HP ever again. DH has a Dell that's 5 years old and hasn't given him any trouble. I use mine lots more than he does though. I'm mainly worried about my work documents being able to transfer easily and also my digital scrapbooking software. I can always re-buy the scrapbook software in the mac format. It's under $100 so it's not too much of a loss. I'll have to start my research soon.
I'm on my second HP & the first lasted me for almost 4 years. My Mom had pretty much the same computer though and had huge problems. I've promised Logan that he can get a computer, when we get back to the States, because his last new computer was the Dell he got when he was in high school. He's leaning more towards building his own desktop though.

My Mom told me when I was a teenager that if I eloped I could have $10,000. I should have taken her up on that offer! (though I don't know where she would have come up with the cash) Naive me thought it would be nice to include family & friends as much as possible. Half my family didn't even show, because of the timing (winter) and I didn't get to spend much time with the people who did come, because, of course, it was off to Disney the morning after the reception.
We should have just had my sister and BIL meet us down in Orlando and eloped, then spent the money going to visit each of our extended family members individually throughout the next couple years.

I'm still waiting on approval to go to Japan before we leave (even though we still don't know when that is). They're doing inventory this month, so his commanding officer won't sign off on the leave paperwork, because he's worried that something will be missing. We have a hotel booked for the first week of July, which I'm willing to push back to the second week if I have to, but after that the Japanese schools go on holiday through August, so it will be crazy crowded. The summer isn't ideal for travel in Japan anyways and I don't want to couple the heat with the crowds. I made Logan promise that if we don't get to go to Japan before we leave, he has to take me for twice as long later.

Apparently, his paperwork is in Hawaii waiting for approval right now. I read in some relevant regulations that they're supposed to cut the orders within 5 working days of receiving the paperwork, so HOPEFULLY we'll have orders by Friday. I also read that since he has a family, the orders are supposed to give us 90 days with authorization to report early if we can get all the out-processing here done more quickly. So we're looking at the middle of September or earlier if the orders are cut this week. There's still a possibility that Hawaii will say no, and we'll end up going back to Kansas, but at this point I just want to know the when and where, so we can move on. If we end up back in Kansas, I'm fairly sure I can convince Logan to take me to WDW in December, especially if we don't end up getting to go to Japan before we leave.

Oh, my, Becca.....I bet you are just wishing to have everything over just so you know where you're going to end up. It's the not knowing that would be the most irratating to me.

Thanks ladies! You're right. The inability to plan is driving me crazy. I knew the military was going to be like this, but not to this extent.

Hey Becca - That must be tough - all that uncertainty. I hope things go well.

Are any of you watching Cars on ABC tonight? They just showed a WHOLE BUNCH of the new Cars Land at Disneyland and it looks incredible- just like the movie scenes! Makes me want to go there so bad! It's on the long term plan for March 2014. Seems so far away!

Wish I would have watched Cars last night :( We have 6 weeks until our trip to CA and my husband has decided that he wants to see Carsland. I was watchîng some videos on YouTube and it looks amazing. Like you stepped into the movie set.

We watched it last night!! :cool1: Looks so awesome. We are tentatively planning for CA and DL in August 2013!! :wizard:

Sea (from my TR) posted a bunch of the new Carsland pics and a video from his Radiator Springs Racers ride from his AP sneak peak. It starts on this page and continues on the next. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2519952&page=94
