~Snowbird Chat 2~

Hi Mindy  Thanks for checking in. Sorry it's hot and crowded. I hope you're having a good time anyway!!

We're hoping what everyone says is true and there are low crowds at the end of August. We know it's going to be HOT, and I won't be able to handle hot & crowded. :faint:

Good morning Birdies! It's been a busy week here. The boys' last day of school was last Thursday. Great report cards and a school-wide top scorer in Math Olympiad! The last day of school also means the start of "PCS season" (Permanent Change of Station), when lots of military families move to new assignments. It's the hard part of living in a military community, having to say goodbye to friends. :sad2:

Most of the people I've met since I got here are moving by the end of the summer.

Finally checking in from sunny Florida. It is hot and crowded down here. This will definitely be our last summer trip for a while. I can tolerate crowds as long as it's cool LOL. I have lots to share when we get back. Tomorrow is our last Disney Day before starting our journey home on Sat. Talk to you all then.

Yuck. I really hope we're never in the position where we have to travel in the summer. It's just too hot!

Vacation just went downhill. Rylan appears to have some sort of stomach bug. I rule hope the rest of us do t get it. That would be bad as we try to drive home 16 hours.

hey girls! Well....we finally got rain!!!!:yay: we were sooo excited and thankful! It rained a LOT yesterday,...some areas got it all 3 days,...but we were just glad we got what we did...it was quite a bit too!!
DS15's teeth are better today,..he ate without much pain. We had chicken spaghetti for dinner, so it wasnt hard to chew into, or any fried crust's or hard pieces. I have some sugar cookies and choc chip in the oven as we speak!! I loooove the new Pillsbury cookies:No pres, artificial anything, or High fructose corn syrup... I looove all natural food products---or as close as i can get...so many things cause me Migraines and allergy reactions. so i am sure we will eat them all by Sat!
I think tonights the night...mock Disney menu plans!!!:woohoo: I have GOT to decide if we are doing the DDP or not....only one way to find out and we just haven't had a good time to sit down and crunch #s...so hopefully it'll be tonight....If we don't do the DDP, I am stealing Shelly's idea and starting to load Disney gc's with food $.
Kathy...glad your baby is ok & yeah..take her to DLP!!! Sorry you are losing your friends in this move...that has to be rough!!!
Ok..gotta get my cookies out!!! Cheerio!

Uh oh...do you think it could be excitement? My little brother got sick every year on Christmas for a few years. We've all taken turns getting sick at Disney too. The go go go in the heat can cause some problems.

I love Disney # crunching! It's so much fun to sift through all the menus and figure out how much you'll likely spend.

Um . . . either his or his wife's? Or does he intend to palm off child care onto someone else? Tell him that's what the Rider Swap is for. And if the kid's sleeping . . . well, it's your kid!

I think he wants to do Rider Swap where couples can ride together, instead of just him or just his wife. It does make some sense, but I'm not going to plan my entire trip around my niece. I mean, moving meal times is 100% logical, but planning what rides when? Not so logical.

I was reading the Unofficial Guide to Disney with Kids yesterday (I know, a 9 month old doesn't really count towards this book, but she's not always going to be 9 months!) and they talked about how July is one of the busiest times of the years. And the hottest.

So I'm injured.
My brother is making me nuts, with regards to arranging a trip to celebrate my parents 40th around his baby's schedule.
It's going to be hot.
It's going to be crowded.

My husband jokingly suggested we just give up and spend the week by the pool at CBR. It's starting to sound like an awesome plan!

I do have a wheelchair rented that we both expect I will need to use at least half the days every day. It's not going to be a ton of fun for my poor husband to push me around in it, so we both expect that my entire family will stick to us like glue to help us out. How dare they want to be helpful?! ;) But I'm concerned about how the "help" translates - like, oh, great, you can take care of baby while we ride! Heheh.

Do any of you have experience with the peak/hot season and water parks? We did schedule a day for the water parks, but then my brother scheduled a round of golf that would overlap with the opening of both for all the men. While we suspect that it's to get a break (my SIL has taken to asking for my brother's opinion, then telling him he's wrong, criticizing everything he does, and making him run late to work to take care of the baby every day), my husband and I are concerned that, if we wait as a family to go to one of the waterparks, there won't be any loungers left.

So then it comes down to "cancel golf?" or "skip water park?" We do have the water park fun & more option and if we don't get to the water park, I will have had no opportunity to use that option and I will have flushed a lot of money down the toilet.

Did I mention no more family trips?! ;)

:grouphug: that everyone else does okay and his tummy is just ready for home cooked foods again!

It makes sense, but you can't schedule a baby. There's no way to determine when and where she's going to get hungry, cranky, sleepy, etc.
If I was traveling with other people, I would assume that I was going to be responsible for my baby the entire time, and if anyone offered to take him off my hands at any point, great. Riding attractions together is overrated anyways. It's not as if you can sit there and chat the entire time.

Hi everyone. Today is my birthday! :goodvibes I'm like a little kid...I love celebrating my birthday. Tony have me a Chamilia charm bracelet and told me I'm probably going to get some charms this weekend. Yay!

Tomorrow we're having a college grad party for my little sister.I can't wait for all of our out of town family to meet Cole. My mom has our old pack and play and I plan to let him sleep in there as much as possible. I really don't want him to be held too much.

Kathy -- I'm so glad your little one is okay. I hope you get to go to DLP! :goodvibes

Happy Birthday Meghan!! :cool1:

I hope Ry feels better soon Mindy and the rest of you don't get it. :wizard:

YAY for the rain Shawna! I'm glad your DS is feeling a bit better and is able to eat.

We're headed to the grocery store. Fun fun. Have a great day everyone!

Yeah - wouldn't work for me. If I wanted time with my niece, or wanted to volunteer, that's one thing. But I always assumed that I or my DH would take care of our baby, and if someone else offered, it was a blessing.

Good luck to your brother when he realizes that no matter what you plan, your niece will probably have other ideas! There's an old Jewish saying, "Man plans and God laughs." So do babies!

Any reason you rented a manual wheelchair instead of either a motorized one or an ECV?

What were the women planning to do while the men golfed? I personally suggest that anyone who doesn't want to golf go to the water park and the golfers will meet you there. Otherwise, would you be stuck at the hotel waiting?

Did I mention no more family trips?! ;)
Good idea! :rotfl:

Happy Birthday Meghan!!!

I was thinking the same as snykymom...why don't the non-golfers head to the water park, and the others can meet you there? Or, if you're ready for a sleep-in-and-relax day, do that while they golf, and then you can all head to the water park late afternoon. We've never done it, but I hear that by late afternoon the water parks get less crowded (and less hot!), so it might be an enjoyable late-day activity.

Good luck! :cheer2: Hey, you'll be at DISNEY! :cool1:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEGHAN!!!
Hope you have an awesome weekend...and congrats to your sister!!!

Sarah...I say head on to the water park...if not, your right,..it's money wasted! And I know you love your niece, but its the grown-ups who spoil things, right?!! If mike would let me take my nephew to Disney I would do it in a heartbeat...but just him-no other family!! It's just too personal of a vacation I think to try to do it with extended family.....unless of course it was STRICTLY to meet at a restaraunt at night, or every other night. I just couldn't do that much 'togetherness'! But...whatever happens, you and your dh just have fun knowing you are together and at Disney...maybe ya'll can use your leg for a reason to split off and go do something for just the 2 of you!

So alot has happened since my last post. I put in my notice at the church and I am now a stay-at-home mom. Yay! There was no way I was parting with my girls after the time I've had with them this summer. Belle is going to 3 day preschool instead of 5 and I'm just going to soak up this next year with her before she's in elementary school.

And... I don't want to jinx things, but it looks like we've got spring 2012 trip in the works. Two of my sweet friends...one I used to babysit and the other I met on here (they have been friends all of their lives, so it's a small world after all:lmao:) want to take a girl's trip with Belle and myself. We are trying to work out all of the details, but Gregg has given me the go ahead.

:wizard:Happy Birthday to my sweet friend, Meghan!!!!:wizard:

Shawna- Girl, I'm with you on the rain! Thank you, Lord!

Oh, honey! :sad2: I'm so sorry to hear all of that. I hope it's been well other than that.

It makes sense, but you can't schedule a baby. There's no way to determine when and where she's going to get hungry, cranky, sleepy, etc.

I agree! If I brought our little one along, I would know that I couldn't do all of the things everyone else did. I wouldn't expect my family to 'help' in a way that hindered them from enjoying themselves.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! It rained like crazy this morning, but it seems to be clearing up now. I'm trying to pick a place to go to dinner tonight, but I can't seem to make a decision. The weather is supposed to be pretty crummy tomorrow but I'm hoping that will change.

Oh, look at all the chatter I've missed!!

Meghan:
:cake::bday:party::rockband:

I hope your sister's party is fun!

Soleil - congrats on your decision to stay home! I'm sure it's going to be great for you! And I hope your 2012 trip comes to fruition - it sounds fun!

Mindy - Hope Rylan's feeling better and you have a safe trip home with no more illness!

Shawna - Glad DS's teeth are better and you get to do some DDP planning! And that you got rain. We've had a lot lately and turns out we're just about at average now! I would have thought we'd be way above. Our weekend weather looks perfect! I can't wait to get outside!!!

Sarah - Oh good luck!!! I say non-golfers go to waterpark too. You'll need to be cooled off and they could come later and cool off too. Otherwise, have it taken off if you can - don't waste the $$$.

snykymom - I love that saying! Man plans, God laughs! It's so true!!!

Hooray for FRIDAY!!!!! Andrew asked me if we could count his piggy bank money for Disney and see if we have enough. So we spent most of naptime sorting all the change from his and Em's piggy bank. We counted the quarters and they have $130 just in quarters!!! I'll have to get some rolls so we can roll all of it and exchange it for spend money.

Tonight we're going to see Cars 2! The kids are so excited! (me too of course) I even got Em to take a nap so she will be pleasant for the evening. First time in a long time she's not fought me on it.

Kathy- So glad your DD is okay. That sounded scary! I hope you get ot go to DLP!!!

Becca- I hope you get your travel plans set soon. It's so sad that it costs our military families so much just to return home for a short visit.

Sarah- We went to Disney in July 2001 for our honeymoon and we did the waterparks for a day. It was insanely crowded and terribly hot. I won't even bring up the wonderful smells when you're crowded in with thousands of people with varying levels of hygiene. :rolleyes1 As far as the traveling with baby...we took Andrew at 6 months and we basically revolved around him. It was too hard to make set plans and predict how the day would go. He was waaaay off his normal schedule that he was on at home so we just went with it. When he napped we strolled around. When he was awake we did stuff. My family was with us and most of the time we all went in different directions. My mom did offer to hang out with him a few times while we got on things with my sister and her husband but you can't go to Disney and expect your whole family to revolve around your infant. It's everyone's vacation and everyone should be able to enjoy it.

Mindy- I hope Ry is feeling better soon! That stinks that he's sick at Disney. I hope it's done before you drive home.

Shawna- Hooray for rain and braces feeling better! I'm really careful about what we eat too. I've learned the things that trigger my migraines and processed foods are one of them. My family thinks I'm crazy for limiting my kids when it comes to preservatives and food dyes and spending more money for local/organic/pesticide free foods. It has made a huge difference in Andrew's behavior and our health.

Meghan- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Can't wait to see all the Disney charms you're going to put on that Chamilia charm bracelet!

Soleil- Congrats on being able to spend time with your girls. You only get these days once! Sometimes it makes me so sad to see these little ones in my daycare for 10.5 hours a day. Their parents are missing so much.

Whew! :faint: Hope I didn't miss anyone! You all have been chatty!

Tomorrow we're having a college grad party for my little sister.I can't wait for all of our out of town family to meet Cole. My mom has our old pack and play and I plan to let him sleep in there as much as possible. I really don't want him to be held too much.

Happy Birthday! I hope you can preserve his mood by keeping the "I wanna hold the baby"'s away.

Soleil - Congrats on your decision to stay home and having Disney plans in the works!

Kim - It's so cute that Andrew wanted to count his money. I remember reading on here once about someone whose son had saved up a lot of money and wanted to spend it on a mother/son trip to Disney. Kids are soo adorable!

It is really ridiculous how expensive flying home is, and everybody always says "Well, you can fly Space A." I'm sorry, but the closest AF base is 2 hours away from here, and they expect me to put my name on a list and hope for the best. I pretty much have to go down there and wait. That is soo not happening with a baby. Then, the flight will only get us as far as Seattle, and we'll have to pay for the rest of the way. We cannot really plan this flight, because of the uncertainty of the Space A flight, which means we could very well end up paying a lot more than we would if we had been able to plan in advance.

I suppose I shouldn't complain, because our flights here and back are paid for... The main reason I'm so bothered by spending the money is that I have no desire to go back right now. Maybe my opinion will change in the next few months, but just the thought of sitting on another flight with the baby, then having to deal with the time change, only to come back a couple weeks later doesn't really seem worth it to me. Especially since I could spend a similar amount of money and not have to deal with the time change or crazy family drama.
