~Snowbird Chat 2~

I actually get AARP stuff in the ma all of the time. Guess they don't check my actual birthdate.
They don't look at a lot of stuff - my 21 year old college student got an AARP solicitation! :rotfl:

Only having one child, I could never justify staying home full time. So I'm still not retired, and I'm a heck of a lot older than 31!

But I do have a snow day today, so it's all good.

I was all geared up to go back to work full time (not teaching in a public school, though) until our little surprise baby came along. He sort of threw a wrench in that plan. I have an amazingly flexible job now that allows me to pick how many kiddos I pick up on my case load. I can control how often I work. LOVE per diem work.

And for the record, I'm a little bit older than 31 now LOL

I did the same thing, Meghan. I was teaching full time until Rylan was 2. We decided to make some changes so that I could be home with him full time. I actually retired from the teaching and am getting a pension LOL. Retired at 31. I actually get AARP stuff in the ma all of the time. Guess they don't check my actual birthdate. I love being home, though. I tried working 3 days a week shortly after Chase was born but was miserable. Now I'm just working 1 day. I'm so much happier.

Lots of luck at your appointment!

I have gotten AARP stuff in the mail before too! So weird. I did enjoy working at Old Navy for the past 3 years. It gave me something to do while Maddie was at school and the discount was wonderful. I really love being at home though. I'm such a homebody to begin with.

Hi all! Just a drive by - I've been MIA since work decided it needed more of my attention! Grr...

Sarah - glad it's not too serious with the knee - now go rest and pack!! You must be so excited! I want a full report!!! I have been reading and listening to everything I can find about the Dream! I think you might wear out your knee walking around that big ship!

Meghan - I saw your blog - I'll follow allong! I hope you will enjoy staying home FT and your new ventures! I tried the stay at home thing briefly and found it wasn't for me. My job is fairly flexible and the kids are both in school FT, so I will stick to working.

Hope you all are avoiding the big blizzards out east! We're just laughing at you all in MN! We are actually enjoying "warm" temps now - for about three days! Above 25!! Might even hit freezing today or tomorrow!!

Mindy - I'm with Rylan. In fact, DH and I have said that very thing a few times lately!

Thanks Sheree! I really want to update today, but lunch & a nap definately come first. :goodvibes I adore staying at home. When Madison was little we always had so much fun together and we loved shopping (of course).

For once, we are NOT getting dumped on around here. My little sis is in NYC and the snow just keeps on coming. It has been in the low 30's here the past few days and it's been great. All of the gross slushy snow on the roads and parking lots is disappearing which is wonderful. I hate that stuff! It's supposed to stay in the upper 20's for the rest of the week, but drop again on Monday. For some reason, the past few Mondays have been SOOO cold!

Hello Snowbirds

Congrats to those of you retiring and those of you cruising soon!! :cool1:

I worked part time after I had the kids. Until they were about 3 & 5, then I "retired" and stayed home full time for about 5 years. Until last winter when I decided I needed to find something a few days a week. Subbing has been the best thing ever!! It keeps me on their schedule and I always have the option to say no if I can't or don't want to work. Sometimes I do get talked into working weeks at a time, but that's rare.

We are hoping to cruise on the Dream in 2013. That's the plan. It will be our 15th anniversary that spring! So Sarah and Sheree -- take lots of pictures and come back with a full report please! :flower3:

Our weather hasn't been too bad this week. A lot warmer than last week for sure. And just a few snow flurries here and there. Nothing like they are getting on the coast. :scared1:

My ticker starts with a 6 now!!!!!!!!:woohoo: It was 7 months yesterday! Can't wait. I can make ADR's at the end of February.

Just finishing up my TR now. Only have about a day and a half left to report on. I am almost to our DIS Meet Shawna!!! :cool1:

We're right in the middle - more than another foot yesterday! A few years ago, the papers measured the snowfall that season against Robert Parrish; this year, it's being measured against Shaquille O'Neal! :rotfl: Shaq's still taller, but who knows for how much longer?

Hello

Where in PA are you again? I've got an awful memory. I'm in south central PA, just outside of Harrisburg. We were nailed yesterday. I'm so ready for spring. I think I mention that every day. :rotfl:

I know!! :scared1: I told my husband that if it wasn't in my building, I wasn't going there next week, at work. (I occasionally am expected to attend meetings on different parts of campus. It's unpleasant in winter, anyway, but I'm NOT going to make my knee worse before vacation!!)

We are hoping to cruise on the Dream in 2013. That's the plan. It will be our 15th anniversary that spring! So Sarah and Sheree -- take lots of pictures and come back with a full report please! :flower3:

You bet!! :flower3:

I'm pretty excited. This is SO new for us. We've never done a tropical-style vacation before. We've never taken a cruise for relaxation. We've obviously never done a Disney cruise before... and this is BY FAR the largest ship we've ever been on, as well as clearly being the newest!

I told my husband today that we were going to spend the weekend finding what we need for the trip. He was mostly giving me grief, but he said he didn't think it was necessary to pack 5 days ahead! :confused3 But I think it's a good idea to find our lightweight jackets, locate our shorts (see if any of them need ironing), find his dress shoes (ALWAYS a challenge!), rather than realizing we don't have any of it the night before! We're getting picked up by the shuttle at 7:30am :scared1: so we won't have a lot of morning time. (I don't think I'll tell him that until later next week :rolleyes1)

Unlike snykymom, we got 1.7" of snow yesterday. However, it started about 2pm so rush hour was pretty bad. I learned that our county plow drivers go home at 3:30pm, regardless of the weather. That's tricky, isn't it? It took us 40 minutes to go 4 miles. The guy behind us just about honked the whole way and came too close to hitting us. Sadly, there were cars in front of us and there was nowhere we COULD go. Seven days until the happy place, seven days...!

Hello there everyone! I am very excited for today. Tonight, we're going to Babies R Us to make our baby registry!!!! :yay: We're going as a family so Madison will feel included. Plus, she loves using those scanners!! I haven't done this in quite some time and my mom came with us last time. I'm just hoping I don't leave anything off or something like that.

Happy Friday Birdie Buddies!!! :goodvibes

I have less than a month to my ADR day!!! :cool1: Really need to get the family sitting down so we can make our plan and figure out where we want to eat! Since we are paying out of pocket we are limiting our # of TS to 4-5 - which is gonna be sooo hard cause we are family who loves to eat!!! Not sure yet if I will do a PTR cause I just don't have the time to dedicate to one right now. :confused3

I am in a bit of a funk again today as it is REALLY cold here today and our neighbours just left this morning to drive to FLORIDA for a MONTH!!! They are both retired and starting their career as snowbirds!!! :) so jealous! :upsidedow

On the bright side I am going out for dinner and to see a movie with my BFF tonight! :cool1:

Hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!!! :)

We are about 4 hours from Harrisburg - just north of Pittsburgh. Considering what everyone east of us has gotten this winter we have been pretty lucky.

But I'm with you -- bring on the spring weather!!! ::yes:::flower1:

You bet!! :flower3:

I look forward to hearing all about it. I have been reading on the cruise board a little. Mainly a big thread about the Dream. It is a bit overwhelming. I feel like I know everything about WDW, but not so much about cruising.

You are going to have such a great time!! :boat: :cool1:

That's right! I remember having the Pittsburgh conversation with you before. DH has family just outside of Pittsburgh.

Heading out for Ry's surgery in a few minutes. Hope it goes quickly.

Just an update. Everything went perfectly!! It only took minutes. I think it took him longer to come out of the anesthesia than it did to actually remove his adenoids and put the tubes in. Hoping that he is on the road to better health from here on out.

 That's great to hear! He gets a hug from WI too!!

That's great news Mindy! I bet you are so relieved it is over.

I wonder how the week went for Joanne and Jenny. . . :cloud9: I can't wait to hear all about their trips. When do they get back?

Happy Saturday Snowbirds!

It's been a busy and snowy week. The only good news to come out of all this snowy weather is that Jason stayed home and we got our new washer and dryer set up. I finally finished painting the laundry/bathroom today. I hate painting!!!!! But it feels good to have it done. I've been wanting to paint it since we moved in over 6 yrs ago. :rolleyes1

I'm so impressed with the washer and dryer! They are so fun! :woohoo:

I might not have time to check in much this week- I have a new infant starting Tuesday. She's 3 months and just the cutest little thing! I'm excited to have a little one again. All my other kids are over 2yrs old. I also have a little boy that comes once in a while for drop in care starting on Wednesday and he will be with me for 3 weeks. This will be the first time in the 3 years I've been a provider that I will be at my licensing capacity of 7 daycare kids. :scared1: I think I need to have my head examined. Mama's gotta pay for that new washer and dryer somehow

It's been awfully quiet around here lately. I hope all of the Northern Snowbirds are staying nice and warm. I'm officially done working at ON and it's just a bit sad. It's very nice having more time on my hands though. There is lots to be done!!! Now that I have some time, I decided to start a blog (at the urging of a dear friend we all know who will remain nameless)!!!

Filled With Joy

It's not too interested quite yet, but I just started this morning. I'd love it if you checked it out sometime! I'll definately be posting pics of our nursery progress.
Bookmarking your blog! :goodvibes Congrats on your retirement

It's snowing like crazy here in PA. Rylan asked me why we couldn't just leave for Disney tomorrow LOL. I'm with him!
I second that motion!!!! Smart kid! :thumbsup2
Thanks, ladies! It ended up being a HUGE ordeal! :headache: I got there at 8:30 for my 9am appointment (had to drop off the hubs so I ran early). I got seen early, talked to a physician's assistant, got sent for x-rays to make sure there was no stress fracture... then 20 minutes later, the PA said "oops, the surgeon is taking over." Another half an hour, and I go for more x-rays... and at 10:30, I finally see my surgeon. Turns out, he was quite concerned that my 2009 surgery had failed. I know he thinks I'm stoic with pain, but, uh, if my tibia had fallen apart, I think I'd be more than a little hysterical.

It turns out I have tendinitis. Rest, ice, stretch, strengthen, and don't it if it hurts. Pretty much as I thought was likely, so I can't believe how much time I wasted! I even told EVERYONE (nurse on the phone, surgeon via email/on the phone, the PA) that it was probably from overuse.

Oh well. Guess it doesn't hurt if I don't walk. Looks like someone's not going to meetings for a few weeks more, eh? :rolleyes1
Rest up before your trip! :goodvibes

So glad to hear all went well! Hopefully you see an improvement in his health because of it.
