Snow in UK and Orlando!!!

It had turned really cold on the day we flew home. On New Year's Eve we were wearing T-shirts, shorts and flipflops at midnight. Less than 24 hours later at the Wishes Dessert Buffet we had changed our clothing to long trousers, thick hoodies and winter coats and I even dug our scarves and gloves which we'd brought to wear to ICE out of the suitcases! It was c-c-c-cold!! :cold:

Central Floridians should plan on freezing conditions overnight and temperatures struggling to go above 40 through Saturday afternoon, according to a new weather advisory.

Forecaster Tony Cristaldi at the National Weather Service in Melbourne said a wind chill advisory goes into effect at 10 p.m. tonight and ends at noon on Saturday.

The blast of cold air from the passing cold front will affect Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Volusia, Brevard and Lake counties.

Areas surrounding the Interstate 4 corridor can expect to see temperatures in the mid to upper 30s tonight and Saturday. Residents near the Ocala National Forest in Marion and Putnam counties need to pull out the winter coats and gloves because it might dip into the mid 20s.

All this strengthens the possibility of snow in the overnight hours.

Although the prediction of snow in Central Florida might strike some locals as an odd event, it's not the first time snow flakes have made it into the forecast.

Light snow mixed with rain fell over Deltona, Lake Mary, Ponce Inlet, Ocoee and Orlando on Nov. 21, 2006. Residents living in Brevard and Volusia counties saw snow flurries blowing snow on the beaches on Jan. 24, 2003.

A heavy snow flurry in Jan. 1989 destroyed many sidewalks in Jacksonville because an inch of snow fell on nearly an inch of ice that covered the pavement.

The most famous incident of Arctic weather in Florida was when snow fell in Miami and other parts of South Florida in the morning hours of Jan. 19, 1977. The weather phenomenon was an international news event because of its oddity.

The excitement didn't last long because the snow melted soon after falling. Weather conditions returned to normal the following day.

For many residents in Central Florida, frost has been spotted on cars and lawns for several days this week.

Forecasters said there is a 30 percent chance of showers today, mainly after 1 p.m. Skies will be mostly cloudy. The high is expected to reach 55, with a low around 35.

Chances of showers increase in the evening hours.

Keep a watch for possible snow flurries and sleet in the overnight hours through 11 a.m. Saturday.

There is a slight chance of rain between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Skies will clear and the rest of the day will probably be sunny, with a high near 40. Wind chill values will make it feel like 26.

Saturday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 29.

I share your feelings on that, Paulh!! After yesterday's temps in Scotland 0 degrees sounds like a heatwave!:lmao: I dropped DD at school yesterday morning on my way to work and in the 10 minutes it took to walk there my black coat and hat were covered in a thick layer of white frost. Even our eyelashes and eyebrows were snow white!:scared1: If I never experience that level of cold again it will be too soon! :scared1:
