I read on the TSA website that snow globes are only allowed in checked luggage. Has anyone ever successfully done this? My neighbor's daughter really wants one and I am concerned that it will break. They probably pack them in pretty tight styrofoam and it probably isn't much different than getting one shipped. What do you think?

I would have it shipped right from the store it is being purchased at. This way, if it arrives broken, they will replace it.

Yes, definitely have it shipped, it's well worth it. I've heard horror stories from friends in the airline industry about how baggage is handled. (Not to mention what I've observed from my window seat on the plane!)

It's definitely more convenient to ship, but don't kid yourself that your package will get better handling from USPS, UPS or FedEx than it will by airline baggage handlers!

One benefit to shipping direct from the store... if you live outside of Florida, you don't pay sales tax.

We made the mistake of packing a snowglobe in our luggage. It broke.

Yes, I was not aware when I tried to bring mine I bought back in carry on, and they told us we had to check it our ship it. I DON'T trust checking it since they can be rough with luggage. I know the cost at the world of disney, and the disney store in mco that shipped it for us was 30 both places to ship the small globe. It was wrapped well when they shipped it to us.
