June 2011 is getting tricky with all of these snow days added on! Anyone else biting their nails? First the waitlist giving me stress, now my departure day may change that reservation. Thank goodness I haven't bought airfare yet!
I need some OKW mojo, karma, pixiedust, anything else you can think of!:worship:

Here is the pixiedust: to help. I hope it stops snowing soon for you as well!!

Unless you or your spouse is a teacher - I'd say plan your trip and enjoy it. The kids missing the last days of school they aren't missing much! Parties etc.

2 years ago the ice storm and major power outages closed our schools for well over a week. DH was then working in a school system and DD and DSIL are both teachers. We were all stressed about the last day of school as we were leaving in on 6/26. DD worked up until the day before we left, DH had to take 1 day off. It was very stressful! This year we are going on 7/9. Looks like another big storm is heading for us on Wed. There is no more room to put the snow. Good luck with your plans.

I've taught for many years. The last few days are cleaning up, watching movies and long recesses (talking elementary school here.) Their teachers should have completed the curriculum before the last week of school! I wouldn't change my plans either if you're talking a couple of days.

Kearsarge school district in NH has a blizzard bag that the kids complete during a snow day. If 85% of the kids return them completed, it counts as a day of school. I'm pushing for it in my district. Sounds great to me!

Nope...not biting my nails. I'm a teacher, & I'm not even going to let it stress me. My 2BR is booked at BCV, & no way am I going to give that up.

Right now, my last day of work will be on a Tuesday & we leave for Disney three days later. If snow keeps coming (we've already had two snow days) & three more school days are added on, I just WON'T BE THERE at the end. :teacher:

And as far as kids missing school then...I wouldn't give it a second thought...or even a first. Go have fun!!

We had 6 snow days already. :scared1: Never had 6 snow days as long as anyone can remember. So school was supposed to end on Monday and we leave Saturday. I thought there would be plenty of time but now school will likely end the Tuesday after we leave. And by the looks of it there will be another snow day this coming week too. I asked the kids if they wanted to go on vacation or be there on the last days of school for parties/activities and both said vacation. :dance3: Now my concern is that the school district may decide to take away April vacation if we get many more snow days. They I am really up *$#&'s creek because we have a vacation planned too. :confused3 . I know - such problems - too many vacations :goodvibes Not to mention my school district has a policy that the children cannot be absent more than 18 days or they report you to the juvenile court :headache: All I can say is that I am going on my vacations. Too much planning has gone into it and money already spent. Myability to take vacations is very limtied and usually planned 11 months in advance. I am sure that the Disney fairies will look out for me.pixiedust:pixiedust:

We were supposed to end school on June 13th, and now it's due to end on June 22nd! I already have flights for June 25th. My kids are in high school and have exams up to the last day of school. What the heck am I going to do? Airline change fees will cost me a fortune, and I may not be able to get another 2 bedroom unit at BLT for new dates!

I hope they start taking days away from the April and even the Feb. breaks! Geez, they haven't been in school much for January, why do they need a February "break"?!

I feel for you! We had the same problem when my DD's were in high school. I know everyone says just go. But if that meant that their child failed every class, I hope that would change their minds. Our school district has a policy about missing the last official day of school. If you do then you automatically have to take finals or you fail the class. Since finals are the next two days after the official last day, you are stuck.

I feel for your guys. We are up to 8 snow days as of today so either the kids are going to lose April vacation or we will go to school until the end of June! Here is some pixiedust: coming your way.

See that would freak me out too. If your kids are younger it is no big deal but in high school...it is a big deal. UGH We had snow days kind of mess up our Jan. trip. Luckily the administrator approved my jr. to take one exam early and one when we returned. The exam days shifted and he would have missed two. :scared1: There is NO way I would plan a trip too close to school getting out with high school age. Last year MD got a TON of snow but it was a declared a state of emergency and we ONLY had to make up 1 day. We had MANY days off from school. Hopefully that will happen for you. :goodvibes

Here they could take their exams early, so that's what I would plan on if they can. They may miss the review, but who cares.

Here in Maryland, we've managed to skirt a few POTENTIAL big snow closings so I'm very happy. There is still February though...which was our BIG snow month last year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Right now we have used two of our four built-in snow days at the end of the year. We are scheduled right now to leave actually a day earlier than the original schedule had the kids getting out of school, since I was sure they would not have ANY snow days last year after missing TEN last year for snow closings.

So they can use ONE more day and we'd still be able to leave as planned. If they use both remaining days, we'll just cancel that first night and bank the points...and plan a trip back in Oct/Nov for the F&W Festival for just the adults! :cool1:

Normally I wouldn't care about taking them out of school on the last days...however I have a FIFTH grader this year so graduation will be on that last day of school. This is my oldest kid...so first one to get out of elementary so the Mommy in me does not want to miss this :lovestrucmilestone, even though the child has already said he'd be happy to miss it. :confused3

We'll see what happens! Best of luck to you though! :wizard:

The laws state that the school must be in sesion for a 180 day school year. We live in southern NH. Because of exta snow days and spring floods Our school superintendant (spelling) applied to the state board of ed to allow our kids to go for less time. Otherwise they would be going into July. He has had to do this on several occasions. My daughters girl scout troop is planning a trip to DC the end of June for GS's 100th anniverary of GS in the US. The high school principal told them to not change their plans as it could be written off a an educational experience regardless of what is done with snow days.

Well, we lost 3 more days this week due to the roofs being cleaned off the jr. and sr. high school. So now, the last day is after June 24th! My flights are booked for June 25! There's a special BOE meeting tonight to decide whether they will start taking days away from the April break. Sure hope we don't get any more snow! I have not changed my flights just yet, I'm still hopeful it will all work out. Send some Pixie Dust my way!

Yikes! Here's hoping for you! :)

Just when I though we were DONE worrying about the weather...especially when temps here were in the 70s on Thursday and Friday...it's now dropped to the 30s and they are calling for...can't believe it...SNOW tonight. Possibly as much as 7 inches in some areas, though my area of MD appears to be in the lower 2-5 inch range. WHAT?! :scared1:

Of course, since our temps were warm for several days we can only hope the roads are too warm for anything to stick and we'll mostly see the inches accumulate on the ground areas. I cannot imagine having to think we'll get a third snow day this week. MAYBE a delay.

Sure glad I didn't book that train ticket last week. Not sure what to think now?? :sad2: :confused3

Snow/ice day today which means I now need to dip into my personal days for our June trip. There is still most of the month of March to get through. yikes

Looks like my trip is safe!

Our school board met a month ago and decided to take 2 days off the Feb. break, 2 days off the April break, and another teacher training day scheduled for April. Our last day is now Monday, June 20th (was supposed to be June 13th!). Thankfully, I didn't have to make any changes to our flights or resort, what a nightmare and expense that would have been!

Hope everyone else is making out ok with their schools and vacation plans!
