Ugh! Snow season is approaching and we are in the market for a new snow blower. We're starting to do research and could really use some advice! Do you like electric or gas snow blowers best? Does the cord on electric blowers become a problem in deep snow? And what features should we look for? Things to avoid? I'm sure specials will be running soon with the holidays around the corner. Any great deals out there?

TIA for any help!

ours runs on gas. beyond the issue of no extension cord being long enough to deal with our driveway, when we get heavy dumps of snow it can cause power outages so an electric would be of no great help.

Would definitely look for a gas model, since dragging around a cord in a snowstorm would be a nuisance. Get a model large enough to handle the larger snow falls you typically get where you live. Tiny/budget models may only be good for clearing the sidewalk to your front door and will easily clog in wet/heavy snow and take forever to do your driveway. Have always had a gas model. My guess is electric is found mostly on the lower cost, smaller capacity models.

Two stage models are great for larger driveways or wet/heavy snow. The front of the machine has a slower moving rotating blade that funnels the snow into a faster moving impeller that shoots the snow away from you. Electric start is usually not necessary and just another battery to charge or maintain during the off season.
