Eeewwwwww!

Sorry for the gross title! What sort of cloth should I bring with me on the half marathon for wiping my nose as I run? I've been using a paper towel, but it just doesn't hold up. I was thinking maybe a small micro fiber wash cloth.....? Any ideas?

I am grosser, maybe.

Snot Rockets are my choice. Obviously in a crowded run it's not the most pleasant thing to do. And you got to maneuver to the side of the course. Absent that if it is that cold the backs of gloves and sleeves take care of what's left.

Specific to your question, how about a small hankie pinned to your top? Anything paper will disintegrate. Cotton would get wet but that would keep it soft.

Personally I us a pair of gloves, it will probably be chilly at the start of the 1/2 so I just get Cheap gloves that I buy from target and wear them to keep my warm, the when my nose begins to run I use the back of them for wiping my nose on, then when you have finished you can either wash them or throw them away, another good option is you sleeve, if you run in a long sleeved top, there is also the snot rocket but that can go bad when surrounded by 15000 people!

Good luck in the 1/2 see you there :)

I do not have the skill for snot rockets. I've gotten in the habit of blowing my nose while running, so I will definitely have a rag of some sort with me. Maybe a scrap of an old dish cloth or just a regular bandanna. I could tie a bandanna around my wrist if I wanted to to keep it out of the way. I just picked up a race belt to carry my jelly beans. I'm sure I could stick a cloth in the belt too.

Slightly off topic but becareful in your new fuel belt if it's new, get a couple of practice runs in carrying everything you will during the race, I only speak from personal experience, I recently did a 1/2 with my belt fuller than I was used to and ended up with a hole in my back from all the chaffing and let me tell you it was not comfortable! Ok go back to your snot convo :)

Tieing to your wrist is better than trying to loop in the belt.

Thank you. I will do so. What should I pack in the belt aside from jelly beans? My sister will be carrying the iPhone for calls to family and camera. Hmmm.... maybe I should bring a real camera.

I bring fuel, phone, room key, a few dollars (incase my bag is missing at the finish) and chapstick

Mine will have Tylenol (just in case) tums (my stomach disagrees with running) a little packet of bio freeze (my legs also disagree!) and my packets of gu. Depending on family plans I might also hve my phone, and room key card!

Kirsty

I carry room key, $20 and Enduralyte Caps. Gels go in the loops on the number belt and I am ready to run.

I find aid tents have more than enough Tylenol, Bio Freeze and vasolene (lube)

eewww EWWW!

I need pockets - I keep several Kleenexes, DH laughs at me, but its what works, the colder it is, the more Kleenex I need... I cant even imagine the .... "boy" way!! (ew and I have to walk there! eww eww!!)

and ITA about practicing with the load you are carrying - I carried way too much in '08 - never again!

I am a snot rocket expert and all the residue gets wiped on my shirt or gloves. If it is a particulatly snotty day, I will wash the shirt. If not, I can get a few runs out of it. ;-)

Ok Scott - that deserves a big EWWWWW

I normally take a washcloth with me from the room (shhh don't tell on me) and I tuck it into my water belt. I haven't needed to use it for snot but it has come in handy at the finish line when I do my usually barfing  - I try not to get it everywhere so the washcloth usually is the first thing I reach for (of course then the only place I can think to put the washcloth is in the nearest trash can) I am keeping my fingers crossed that by the end of the Goofy there won't be no barfing but it is a usual thing for me so I am sure it will happen again. :sad2:

Just checked you times on your tag line. I think we are OK. You are out of my rocket range and I am infront of your expel zone.

Jezz did I just type that?

OK, I can attest to this. I ran with Charles last year. I learned quickly not to run in front of him! :rotfl2: just kidding of course.

I always take a wash cloth with me although it is mainly for wiping the sweat. Otherwise, shirt sleeve, gloves, etc, anything works when running. That is the beauty of running with so many people so close, you don't even have to use your own shirt!

And I CAN attest to that. If you blow out Duane's avatar phot you will see his wingman on theat day. I started with long sleeves but had to rip them off after a few miles :scared1:

OK, you boys are GROSS!

When I think I might be a bit stuffed up, or it's really cold, I usually carry a few Kleenex with me in my geeky fanny pack!

:lmao: OMG! But still ewwww!

Kleenex user here. In the cold I toss a pack in my pants for runs at home. I'll have a pack in my belt too for the race.

The mystery might have just been solved though as to why girls and guys don't run/race much together. I always thought it was a pace/long leg type of thing but well now... :rotfl2:

I'll have Kleenex :thumbsup2
