snorkeling with your own equipment question

We have a question about snorkeling that I haven't read about yet. If you have snorkeling equipment (fins, mask, snorkel) do you still have to pay to go snorkeling on Castaway Cay (or elswhere) or can you just do it on your own. The way the excursion booklet words it, it sounds like you have to pay anyway. Also, we don't have vests.

Thanks!

They will give you a vest(required) at Castaway Cay. No charge to snorkel with your equipment. Other beaches at other ports....we are just taking our gear and snorkeling on our own also. At St. John's Trunk Bay they have a course, but other than the beach user fee, like $4.00 maybe per person, there isn't a charge if you have your own equipment.

We bring all our snorkel gear also. Its worth bringing if you like to snorkel. We will be snorkeling 3 times during our 7 day eastern cruise. We use our stuff when taking excursions also. And don't forget anti-fog gel for the masks. We even have float vests we bring. (we have snorkeled with manatee's in florida before so thats why we have so much stuff. Cheers, Gary

typically you can snorkel just about anywhere without having to pay additional fees if you have your own equipment. Extras that cost would be beaches that charge a fee, which are very rare in the Carribean i think, charges for renting beach chairs and umbrellas, and that sort of thing.

Our equipment has paid for itself the first couple of times that we used it, and it is still in good shape, and will be used lots over the years to come.

I had the same question... Does anyone know if they charge at Castaway Cay if you only need the vest? If so, how much?

I also have all of my equipment and don't really like to use a vest but I guess I will have to abide if they require it.

The vests are required and they are free.

Vests are hanging from the lifeguard chairs & you can just grab them as you walk by.

When you are snorkling at Castaway Cay, what do you do with you "personals"? I was uncomfortable leaving the pager (that Disney loans us) on the beach, thank goodness it was still there when we returned. Now that we are going again in a year, I was wondering what other people do? Are there lockers that we could store it in, if so where are they?

Thanks.

I have that same question. Where do you put your personal items when you snorkel on Castaway Cay or at the other islands? This is our first cruise and our first time snorkeling. In addition to snorkeling at Castaway Cay, we are going on the 5 Star Snorkel excursion at St. John. Is there a safe place to keep your identification, credit card, cash, etc.

Speaking for myself, I carry a waterproof card card holder that has a safety pin attached. You can pin it to your suit and works pretty good at keeping stuff dry. They are the size of a fishing or hunting license holder and I just pin to the inside top of my bathing suit. They have a ziplock type closure to keep it waterproof and you can fit a couple of credit cards and some money in it. You can also get a plastic waterproof credit card holder and lanyard. I think they sell them on the ship. Although I don't like carrying lanyard around my wrist or neck. Cheers, Gary

you can also get these little waterproof containers on the ship, that hang around your neck. It has enough room to hold cash and IDs.
