We leave for our trip in one week. We have excursions booked for both places. I am trying to research which one is best. Which location has the best snorkeling?? If you've been to either one, please tell me about your trip!
Thanks, Dee :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Two weeks ago we snorkeled in both. We did the Catamaran in Nassau. Nice boat ride, nice snorkeling-limited variety of fish, nice coarl. Mw DH and DS(10and 12) also did snorkel off the beach at Castaway Cay. They said not much to see. Had to go out far from the beach. I don't know about the excursions.

We enjoyed the catamaran on Nassau very much. I wouldn't call it spectacular snorkeling, but it was decent, and a very pleasant couple of hours overall. We talked with numerous people who were very disappointed with the snorkeling on Castaway Cay -- very few fish and the water gets very murky after a short time was the general consensus. We had a perfectly lovely day floating around on our rafts--I highly recommend that!

Done both.

Nassau was nice on a the sailboat. There were a fair variety of fish and pretty coral.

I did the Seahorse Snorkel at CC and again the coral and fish were interesting, the area was more limited. The snorkeling from the beach at CC is best done in the early AM. You will have to swim quite a way out, there is no coral and the fish variety is limited. The advantages are there are some interesting objects under the water and if you have your own snorkel gear, you don't pay anything. :earsboy:

I've heard that there wasn't much to see at Castaway Cay, just wondered if the excursion took you out further to where there was something to see. Guess we'll do the one in Nassau. Our excursion time is 9am, don't know if there were other times, will it be too cold to snorkel that early? Will get warmer towards noon, but wondering if the kids will be too cold to enjoy.
Thanks for the posts!

The Seahorse Snorkel at CC did go much farther out where there was coral, as well a more fish.

When I traveled in Sept. the weather in the morning was plenty warm. Don't forget sunscreen. :sunny:

Anybody done the Caribbean Queen snorkel Tour in Nassau?
I´m very interested to hear reports on that one.
Lots of greetings from Germany

I didn't start snorkeling until we started the 7 day so I cannot speak to the Bahamas. However, I can tell you that if you snorkel at Serenity Bay at CCay you should see more fish than at the family beach. It still won't be much, and you won't see much more than the white/silver and yellow guys but you may see more if you go out to where the rocks/reef is.

You'll just have to break down and go on the 7 day. The fish on the Barrier Reef on the Captain Marvin's 1/2 day snorkeling is way cool! Lots of colors to see out there. I'm still learning and am still gun-shy but it's an awesome experience, no matter what you see.

Have fun,
Kim
