Snorkeling map of Castaway Cay

Does a map exist that shows where the various statues are sunk at Castaway Cay? Where can I get it? Thanks!

When we were snorkeling there in March the lifeguard (out in the ocean) pointed out some good spots for us. Just ask them which direction to look. And the sunken Mickey had a white buoy floating near it to mark the spot. We didn't find out about the sunken 20,000 leagues submarine till after we returned home. That would have been great to see!

so there is a statue of Mickey and a sub from the old 20k attraction. What else is there under the sea?

ALso a map of each bay would be a great tool if anyone has it or something similiar.

No map here, but you'll also find some "new" items sunk out there. I wont ruin it for you, half the fun is exploring. Those who havent been in a while, you will notice the sandbars have been shifted. There is a nice drop off now from the storms and I found plenty of large fish (groupers) along the drop off point. The snorkling lagoon was also shifted, it seemed, too.

How deep is the water where the sub is? I would love to go down and check it out, but I am not real experienced with snorkeling or diving too deep.

Hmmm. Me no likey big fish in my water! If I don't see'm I can pretend they aren't there. Not rational, I know, but it works for me! How prevalent were these big fish? Would I see them just floating around?

So, let's say you are an inexperienced snorkler who isn't in the best shape of your life. Is it going to be an all day snorkle to find these things?

The 20,000 leagues sub is in about 10-12 feet of water. The tail fin used to be visible during low tide. You should easily be able to make it down there. I think its only the top half of the sub, but there are some windows that you can look through on it.

As for the big fish, they were more intrested in seeking food rather than look at me. They were maybe 18 inches long. Not too scary. There is a barracuda (sp?) that has been at Castaway for some time. His name is Barry and he's about 3 feet long. I did see him swimming around Serenity Bay last week. he does not bother anybody either. Although, the first time i saw him a few years ago, it was like , oh boy lemme get outta here! they do have some teeth.

A lifeguard did tell me that they feed the fish every other day to keep them in the area, so they are used to people so you have no need to be scared.

Mickey was WAY OUT. We had slightly choppy seas and I went to find Mickey. I'm not in great shape, but I'm not in horrible shape either, I walk a mile or two each day, can get through 20 minutes of aerobics without dropping dead, I'm not overweight and have no health issues. I found him, but was tired, then I needed to snorkle back. It was tough!

I could be wrong but I thought there was a sign with a map on it right as you entered the snorkel lagoon. It had the numbered bouys on it and showed you what each one was for. I know DH found both the Mickey and sub on his first trip out alone. Then when we went out together on another cruise it was pretty easy to find them. They both are out quite a ways. I'm not in the best of shape but a pretty good swimmer and I had no real problems getting to them.

Once during low tide, the sub's hull was just below the surface. I was able to take a rest by siting on the sub, which is covered by a large net.

We were there last Oct right after a tropical storm. The water was extremely murky and the water choppy. We figured out where something must be because that's where all the people were. But, even after we got there we couldn't see it. Some nice man actually took me under water and pointed it out to us. We saw Mickey and the treasure chest and the sub. My DS who was 8 at the time and I were totally exhausted. He was so out of it, that he had to ride on my back while I swam us to shore. Needless to say I was useless for the rest of the day, there were other kids with us that wanted to go, but I just wasn't capable of doing it again.
