Snorkeling in the rain?

Jrabbit, I love your pics. Can I ask a question, though? I see one of them is of a person well under the water. I thought snorkeling was about keeping the snorkel above the water line while you looked under the water? Yeah, I'm a total snorkel novice. Sorry if that's a dumb question.

We were just on an excursion that included snorkeling, and at some point the guides went underwater like that. As did my son, apparently. I don't know personally because he just went off immediately while I was having a surprise last minute panic attack.

and that person dove over 20 feet down to get to the shipwreck!!! Talked to him afterwards and he was surprised that it was that far down and it was hard and a little painful for him to do (because he wasn't prepared for the depth of the dive - and how long he was going to be down for)
