We are thinking of doing the catamaran snorkeling excursion in Nassau and lagoon snorkeling in Castway Cay. My sons are 9&6 and swimmers - we spend most of our time at the pool or beach during the summer. I know they provide life jackets. I've seen some people say the best snorkeling in Castaway Cay is further away from the beach - am I being unreasonable that I don't see this being a problem with the kiddos?

Again you know your kids. In Dec 2014 on Dream we tried snorkeling at CC. The waves very rough. We (Mom, Dad and Kids) got exhausted after 30 mins. and gave up. The weather just wasn't the best. You have to go out pretty far to see anything. Also remember that there isn't a lot of fish in the swimming area of CC (IMHO).

At the time the kids were 8 and 12. Both boys. We're not big beach/pool family though (thus the cruises to do that sort of thing).

This past Dec. we snorkeled at Chanakaab in Cozumel and had a lot better success. Over 1 hour and we had a blast. So much we're doing that again.

So the question may not depend on you or your kids but may depend on the weather.

Hope this helps.

I think it depends on the weather/ waves also. Plus, IMO open water snorkeling is a different animal than beach snorkeling.

Thanks! I saw on the other post that someone said it was a 15-20 min swim out to some of the buoys. Again, I'm thinking especially with life jackets, that this is completely doable for them. Anyone else think differently?
