Snoring

My dh and I see the same NP/family doctor group and I told her what issues DH was having while sleeping, then he went in for a followup and she prescribed Flo-Nase nasal spray. It didn't end it completely every night, but it has helped alot. Flo-NAse is supposed to be one that isn't addictive.

I hate earplugs but it beats the alternative-me going to the big house for murder..lol. He won't go for a sleep study. The funny thing is he used to snore just as bad till he had sinus surgery-then nothing. It was wonderful. He's put on quite a bit of weight (which he refuses to do anything about) and back with the snoring. Ugh.
Thanks for the replies!
Well, there is your answer. Your DH snores because of his extra weight. I feel for you since my DH snores for the same reason. I would make my DH take a decongestant at night and that would help enough that his snoring would subside a bit. So, your short term solutions seem to be: snore spray, decongestants, breathe right strips and ear plugs. The long term solution would be for him to lose weight. Does he know/care how much his snoring disrupts your sleep? Mine knew but didn't care until I threatened to move into the spare bedroom. He's now on weight watchers and losing weight :yay:.

DH uses a PureSleep mouthguard that shifts his lower jaw slightly forward when he sleeps and it makes a HUGE difference in his snoring.

He has done sleep studies and had surgery for a deviated septum. No apnea but he still snores and it drives me bonkers when he doesn't wear his "teefs", as we call them.

For short term use and with the disclaimer that you really should encourage him to have a sleep study done, this marvelous little device can be a sleep saver:

One quick way to test if it will make a difference for your DH is to ask him to make a snoring sound (while awake) and then jut his lower jaw out slightly and try to make the same sound. :)

Thanks for the info about Pure Sleep! I've been looking for a product to try at those times when I don't have 'Darth' with me. This might get me through in a pinch. Much better price than the custom designed ones. Hope it works! Glad to hear a recommendation from you MyDizneyBoyz!

DH uses a c-pap and it's been very difficult to find a mask that seals well, the sleep-study clinic suggested trying something similar to what your husband is using...but the price was over $1000 (and insurance does not cover it). I wonder what's so different about them that creates such a higher price?

I'm the snorer in our family :rolleyes1 and sprays, strips or mouth guards did nothing to help. I read on here a LONG time ago someone using Claritin D (not the regular, had to be the D) and it helped their dh. I started it a few weeks after reading that and we have had a peaceful house since! :rotfl: I take it each night with dinner, it doesn't effect my ability to sleep, and apparently I don't snore anymore (except when I don't take it :lmao: ). I also have flovent which I only need to use in the summer, we've tried flovent alone year round and it didn't do anything ("vent" is the inhaler version flonaise is the nasal spray). Anyhow, it might be worth a shot.

Great info guys. I think I'll have my husband try Pure Sleep. He snores loud enough to keep the entire hotel up. :lmao:

Does the Pure Sleep help someone who most likely has sleep apnea? DH snores so loud I can hear him downstairs when he's upstairs with the door shut. He has a sleep study scheduled at the end of May, but now we've learned that we have to go out of town before then, which means a hotel stay. Because of our WDW trip in Sept. we don't have the extra $ for 2 rooms, so I'm panicking because I know it will be a sleepless weekend for DD and I (DS sleeps like the dead). I'm wondering if the Pure Sleep will help in the meantime?
