Not sure where to post this, I am just really looking for some help!

Aside from lifestyle changes like losing weight (working on) and side sleeping or sleep apnea devices, has anyone ever used any snoring remedies that actually work. My husband keeps complaining that I am always tired. He does not "get it" that I am awaked continually throughout the night because of his incessant snoring. :sad2: I finally got up at 5:00am an slept on the couch...again. Would really appreciate any advice, as I would really love to be able to sleep through the night again.

Thanks

How interesting that you should ask this as I just got home a few minutes ago from staying overnight in a city near us because my DH just had a sleep study done for sleep Apnea. I wanted to respond to you because this has been such a sore issue for literally years in our home. My DH not only snores terribly, but stops breathing as well. A few nights ago for the first time, he woke up and his heart was beating about 3 to 4 beats per second, and was taken to emergency until finally we got the heart rate down. He is 49 years old. Having said that, I would encourage you strongly to have him checked out. Our doctor found my DH's heart to be in very good shape after an EKG and a stress test, but his nose is almost totally blocked. They took an xray of his nose and throat and saw how his breathing passage is very narrow and will now be on an oxygen machine (very small) during the night. Apnea is responsible for many deaths every year. A good friend of ours died last year because of it and she was only in her early 40's. Anyway, just want to encourage you to have him checked. I really can't give you any good input on what to do about getting sleep. I have tried everything, breath right strips and nasal sprays, but nothing worked. Sleeping in another room is usually the only way to make things work and believe me, there are more people out there that do that than one may think. I hope things work out for you...I know how awful this problem can be!

Forget about the couch! DH and I sleep in separate ends of the house! (He's THAT loud!) We love each other with all our hearts, but I just was NOT getting any sleep...and he wasn't either because I shove on him throughout the night. He doesn't have the apnea...just the snoring.

I don't know HOW we're going to sleep in a double bed at POFQ in the SAME ROOM! :rotfl2:

I did buy earplugs. :teeth:

Everytime DH snores, I loudly say, "STOP YOUR SNORING!" He says, "Who?" or "I'm not sleeping." This usually works, and when it doesn't, I have the satisfaction knowing that he'll get as little sleep as I do. :rotfl:

Thanks for the replies.

DH and I discussed this this AM. He is willing to go to the doctor's to see if he should get a referral elsewhere. I don't think he realized how bad things had gotten. He has commented recently on how tired I always am though. Trouble is, we only have a 2 bedroom house, so I either wake DD and crawl in bed with her, or go onto the couch, which is bad for my neck. But I don't want to keep waking DH to flip him either, because then that's 2 of us with no sleep. UGH!!!

I wish I had a 3rd bedroom and could put in a daybed or something! :confused3

I've always found a strategically planted foot works well. :rolleyes1

In all seriousness though, my hubby snores but doesn't have apnea issues, just a big nose, he'll tell you the same thing. ;) I've found as long as he lays on his side and is facing away from me I have a better chance at sleep.

Have you tried those squishy ear plugs you can pick up in wal-mart or even a white noise machine for your room, that helps me a lot.

I sometimes get it in stereo, our DD will occassionally snore, especially when teething and she's at the same tone as DH just not as loud. There are nights I would love to move to another house.

Hi
When I travel with my DH, we have to get a suite or a place with 2 rooms. His snoring is the loudest I've ever heard. In 2004, my DD and DH and I stayed at Pop. We had one room. I received a postcard in the mail for $49.00
a night. What a great deal!. Well, after the first night together, my DH went to the front desk and got his own room. We kicked him out. We couldn't sleep at all, and my DD kept sighing all night and I kept jumping up to nudge him. It was awful. So now the great deal ending up costing us $149.00 for the two rooms. We also slept with a white noise machine, and he even drowned that out! I use that at home too. We've been married 37 years, but due to his snoring, if it's too loud, I'll move into another room or he will. Anyone have any other solutions, please let me know.

Well first of all I could practically have written the OP's first post myself. My dh is a horrible snorer. I haven't resorted to moving to another room yet but believe me I've thought about it. He's tried different sprays and drops which seems to help occasionally, and then only right after applied. If I wake up in the middle of the night, it's back to the nudging. Funny thing is I was showing him this thread and down at the bottom of the page are targeted "ads by google" about sleep apnea and snoring. Out of curiosity I clicked on one and found this product: http://snoreender.com/index.html

It has a 30-day money back guarantee (from the day you recieve it). DH said he would try it! So I'll let you know if it works or not. It's certainly worth a shot. If anyone has tried this device let me know what you thought of it...

I took a look at the snore ender. Let me know if it works!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I do sleep with a fan going. I am not able to wear earplugs though, since I suffer from tinnitus in both ears which is worst in quiet. Then that would keep me awake!! At least my malady doesn't keep my DH awake too!! ;)

In the mornings, when my DD and I are getting ready for our homeschooling day, we can always hear him from the bedroom. We just look at each other and roll our eyes.

Maybelle,
I know this is off topic, buy I have tinnitus in my left ear. I've had it for 20 years. Never, ever stops. That's why I use the white noise machine and could never use earplugs. I've never talked to anyone who has tinnitus even though it's supposed to be quite common. Do you have any suggestions as to drowning out the noise. I've tried Niacin and Ginko Biloba, but it didn't help, but I don't think I stayed on the Ginko long enough. I'm sorry that you have it too. Mine gets worse in high humidity, but most of the time I can ignore it. Also, I hope you can get sleep!!!

I can so relate...!!!

My DH snores like crazy. He's done all the sleep studies, even had tonsils, adnoids, uvula(?) removed, and fixed deviated septum. It helped for a while, but the past couple of years the snoring is back...

He's in another room now - yup, like the other poster, its just not worth both of us being tired all the time - I sleep like a baby now!!! (he still doesn't - he wakes himself up,twitches, etc from the snoring). I dread it every time we go on vacation - cant afford 2 rooms, so it can be a challenge with 3 of us trying to sleep and him snoring away. ear plugs do help! Plus at WDW you are so tired after a day in the park, you just conk out!
