SNORING.... ugh make him stop...

My DH's snoring disappears when he lays on his right side. Unfortunately, I have to push him to turn over many times per night. He sleeps well, but I sure don't. I think I have a sleep disorder as its rare for me to sleep soundly throughout the night anymore. I guess you get accustomed to it but I think its taken it's toll on me. On certain days when his snoring is exceptionally bad, I just can't get sleep and it really messes me up for the day - I am dragging and I'm very irritable. I can certainly understand why people sleep in separate rooms. If I had one, I'd be using it.

Imagine how bad you feel about not getting a good night's sleep. Now imagine that your DH is feeling that way EVERY morning because he is most likely not getting REM sleep and is never refreshed.

Does he fall asleep at the drop of a hat? Have you caught him nodding off a little while driving? These are warning signs. Most insurance companies cover the testing because they realize the seriousness of the problem.

Thanks for the info! DH's doctor says I just need a goot sleeping pill :confused3 What kind of help is that??? Our dentist can actually fit the device. He just has to have the forms (molds?) done of his teeth, then they do all the technical stuff, etc. At his next appointment, I'm going to have him get everything started.

That is SUCH A load of crap. I'd use a stronger word if this was not a family board. If your DH has not been tested, I'd recommend asking some family and friends for a referally to a sleep clinic....and a referral to a different doctor.

If your DH has been tested and does not have sleep apnea, the snoring could be symptoms of other serious problems. I don't think the solution is for you to take pills so your DH can keep snoring.... Good luck with the dentist, but I'd also suggest a sleep study!

Those of you who have a husband or wife that doesn't think it's a problem - get a video camera and tape them and play it back for them. My DW could literally start recording in our bedroom and walk all the way downstairs and you'd still hear me clearly.

It's a serious health issue, and NOT just for the snorer....

Testing is easy and simple.

My DH was tested and retested, had surgery, had his nose reset, was given devices to wear (he bends them while he's asleep and has tried just about everything else that anyone can think. He still snores loud enough to rattle the walls.

I finally just threw in the towel and he has his own room now. I also try to make it a point to get multiroom accomodations when we travel or else I just resign myself to getting little sleep.

If your DGF's DH does not like the straps, have him go back to the sleep doctor or a durable medical company in your area. There are MANY different types of straps/masks/etc. I will be honest, it took about 2 weeks to really 'get used to it' - but it's literally a life changing device for me. But it's second nature now, even when I need to jump up to get a crying child. It slips off and on just like shoes now.

I, quite frankly, think this is absolute waste of money for them to get the machine (allow insurance to pay for it) all the while it collects DUST on their nightstand. DGF's DH is very heavy, smokes way too much. So he has allot of issues playing into all this S.A.!!! But to go and get the STUDY to determine you are classified SEVERE, get fitted for the device and NOT USE IT, is CRAZY!!! AND I told DGF this as well. She agreed 100% with DH, that the strap is uncomfortable...but then there are the nights DGF lays there and literally WATCHES her DH NOT breathing... Her DH has traveled for business and I have said to her...what happens if he stops breathing and you are NOT there to nudge him...YIKES...???

As far as traveling, if it is just DH and DGF, WHY would they want to be in TWO rooms...I mean that is rather $$$$ to have to get TWO rooms, when DH could GET to liking the machine, actually USE the machine and then MAYBE they would have a LIFE.
We recently went with them to the Mohegan Sun in CT and stayed overnight. They had their room, we had ours...rooms are like $350per night...(so pricey to get TWO)!!! The next morning, DH is asking for his headache (advil) and DGF has NOT slept ALL NIGHT!!! UGH....bottomline: they BOTH were miserable. No good company at all at breakfast.

I guess I am lucky, my own DH does not snore and I actually have had situations where I had to put my finger under his nose to make sure he is STILL ALIVE. DH falls asleep and actually almost NO movement until morning. His own BRO died at 50yo(heart attack) so I always get nervous with my DH!!!

Exactly! I fell asleep while driving due to being so tired from being wokeup a thousand times a night, from the Dh's snoring, hitting, kicking.

I agree that it is crazy to go through all the testing and get a mask and not use it. But I can also see his side of it - if it weren't comfortable, I wouldn't wear it either. ONE night is not enough to see if the straps are going to really be comfortable. They may not even be adjusted properly.

When I was originally fitted the company brought the machine to my office and fitted it right then and there. They also offered to come back in if it didn't seem like it was fitting right. Of course, this was a durable medical equipment company so it was their business to do this so if he just 'got' it from the Dr, that's a different thing...

Without my CPAP, I do the snoring/stop breathing/wake up cycle over 60 times and hour so I was never getting any sleep.

I hope you didn't have an accident.

ACK...dont tell me that....I specifically went to my doctor when I realized that there was no way that I could get any sleep anymore unless I took Tylenol PM. SPECIFICALLY went to ask him!! And he told me that it is fine!!! :confused3

Egads...I have a new doctor now and will certainly have a talk with him!!

Great, the next thing will be Lunesta or that other one........dont like that idea at all :(

The tylenol isnt a needed ingredient for sleeping. Take a benadryl instead. Its the exact same ingredient minus the acetaminophen. There is 25 mg of Diphenhydramine HCl in a tylenol PM. The same amount is in a benadryl. Good luck, its awful to not be able to sleep.

JEFF :thumbsup2 I agree. My own SIS is a nurse in a big hospital on the North Shore and she said Pts. are actually admitted (for random surgeries) and IF they are on the machine...that comes with them. I told her about DGF's hubby (she knows them very well) and she said EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID. The company where the apparatus comes from is VERRRY accommodating and will TRAVEL to aid and assist you with the machine.
My friends just simply are NOT bothering (IMHO)! :sad2:

I would and did move into a different room. LAck of sleep from my Dh's sleep apnea was causing me health problems.

MY DMIL said to sew tennis ball into night shirt but DH doesn't wear a shirt to bed.

Lol, you should call them and say "Hey, my husband got his CPAP from you and is having trouble with the straps. Can you stop over to look at it some night next week?" and then give them DGF's name and address and pick a night you know they will be there. :) I'm so bad.

You know IF I ever did that...AND the company went there...and straightened out the strap...I could NEVER keep a straight face when DGF tells me how WONDERFUL the machine is for DH now that the CO has fixed the strap on DH :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
BUT then no more DGF in a separate room, no more snoring, no more stopped breathing, no more advil in the morning....
OMG, I would be responsible for saving their lives AND possibly their marriage...... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

MY QUESTION TO ALL OF YOU WHOSE DH OR DW SNORES...HOW exactly do you go on vacation and share a room??? :confused3 My DGF cannot go anywhere with her DH as she would NEVER get any SLEEP at all....NONE....!!! They go NO where. She now sleeps in a completely different room away from him as she works and she needs her sleep every night! :sad2:

We try get suites or condos whenever we can. Even teh kids will say "OH NO" if we don't ahve a suite.
I always travel with my fan box or buy one when I go by plane somewhere. If all else fails I take Sominex while on vacation. On cruises I'll take Dramamine, kills two birds!

Oh yeah....my husbands doctor asked him if it was a problem (the snoring) and my DARLING husband says "not for Me - for my wife" and the doctor says "then you dont have a problem!!" I HATE THAT DOCTOR!!!

Oh ... so if I take the Tylenol PM without the Tylenol it is not harmful to me? They do have "just PM" or simply sleep or something like that.......

Oh and I actually FORGOT that we bought a King Size bed because of this....which made our bedroom way too small....which ended up costing us a fortune in order to break through to the small bedroom ... which made us dormer up to add a bedroom upstairs for the child that had the small bedroom...LOL!!!!!

I'm the snorer in our family. We really think (and hope) it's because I'm pregnant and about 100 pounds overweight. DH says I didn't snore before being pregnant. I have been using the breathe right strips and he said it makes a little bit of a difference. And I never sleep on my back. The weird thing with us is he'll nudge me and tell me I'm snoring (in and out!) but I swear I'm AWAKE! How can I be snoring if I'm awake??
That's almost as bad as my own snoring wakes me up sometimes! When I'm dozing on the couch and start to snore, I can hear myself and jump awake. Does that sound wierd? DH now sleeps in a separate room, since he says I snore so much. I never understood how annoying it was until we had a house guest once who slept on the living room couch. And he snored even louder than me! He was a real nice guy, but I was so glad at night when he finally left. Now I don't mind when DH sleeps in the other room-sometimes ;) ;) ;) And that's why we get a 1 BR villa on vacation. At least, even though I'm the snorer, he lets me have the bedroom.

SNoring is why DH and I dont sleep in the same bed. between snoring and his restless leg syndrome I dont get a whole lot of sleep. on our way down to
disney the only hotel rooms we could find was either a 2 bed smoking or a king in non smoking. I thought we would take a chance with the king. WRONG DECISION!!! I ended up grabbing the cover and sleeping on the floor. should have picked the stinky room.

You should get tested. It's not just Men with Apnea....

If the snoring is Apnea, they most likely can treat that.

Restless Leg syndrome also has some therapies, and not just all drugs.

You should really have him go to a sleep specialist.
