That explains much about the (un)popularity of "Peanuts" these days.
Charles Schultz personally approved all creative content when he was alive, his desire was no new Peanuts content would be created after he passed. That's why so many of the newer Peanuts TV specials were just his old strips in animated form. The family bent the rules a little for the feature film (which was surprising popular) since his sons wrote the screenplay/treatment.
