Snobby Neighbors - Do You Have Them?

No snobs here. We're advertised as "Florida's friendliest hometown" and it pretty much lives up to that.

This is so true! My sister lives down the road from you (Lady Lake) - having moved there about 2 1/2 years ago.. When I have gone down to visit her we have spent nearly every evening up in The Villages and the people there are wonderful.. My favorite area is Lake Sumter - it has that coastal feel of New England..

At one point - during one of my visits - I had to take my sister to the Emergency Room at The Villages hospital for a suspected heart attack.. The staff was wonderful!! She ended up being admitted and I was given directions how to get back to her place (with her vehicle) as well as assistance walking me through what I needed to do to contact her insurance company back here in NY.. The one thing that really stands out in my mind about the hospital (other than the sheer beauty of it - WOW!) was that I purchased a huge muffin and a carton of milk at the snack bar there and it only totaled something like 99 cents - LOL.. I thought sure it would cost me a few bucks..

Great, great area.. You're lucky to live there..

Our neighbor who has a far in Hawaii, was mad that we lived in a trailer before we moved our house onto our property. He just drives by without acknowledging us.

Do you mean he owns a farm in Hawaii? Please don't think all people from Hawaii are like that, including me.

I live in a community here in Virginia with a HOA and there are some upscale homes. I haven't noticed any snobbery. We are all diverse ethnically, we all drive used cars, want the same things in life basically (ie good schools, safe neighborhood, etc.), and get along pretty much. We really don't have that keeping up with the Joneses thing going on either.

I like where I live.

We seem to.

We moved into a more upscale development, but nothing that shouts "La De Da" or anything. In fact, our little ranch house is quite humble.

However, with that comes, unfortunately, some snobby neighbors. Yes, we've met some really cool ones, but jeez, some of these people won't even wave when they drive by.

See if I invite them to my hot dog and beer bonfires this summer.

Anyone else live among the seriously too-good-for-everyone?

Congrats on finishing your house!! We hope to close in a couple of weeks but probably won't be moving in until late June.

As far as neighbors, one is great!! The other side - well, let's just say that we've done absolutely nothing right according to him with this build.

Oh yes! There's a whole community of them here in GA called Peachtree City. No matter where you rank socioeconomically, you have to act about two notches snootier than that. I absolutely hated living there.

I run up to Peachtree City to shop at the Avenue shopping center and never have noticed that from the salespeople.

My area definitely has it's share of "keeping up with the Jonses" thing! Like said before, many moms in town are size 2 blond women with their future Ivy-league 2.3 kids, with their 4 bedroom huge houses, 3 car garage, and drive super large luxury SUVs. I know some can't really afford what they have, but they think nothing of having more and more luxuries. I think the clincher in how "snobby" some can be is the obsession with how clean their houses are. Sure, we all want clean houses, but some use it has a measure of status - it seems all these women are in competition for how clean/museum-like they can make their homes. There have been many in town that I met (I used to do babysitting) that I had to take my shoes off on the FRONT PORCH, just so they can't stand there and criticize me for bringing a touch of dirt through the front door. They put me in my place!

I also babysat some families who won't let their OWN CHILDREN use the front door! The kids HAD to enter through a side door, take off all shoes, wipe down hands with disinfectant, and then could only go in maybe three rooms in the whole house! They weren't allowed in most rooms since the parents didn't want the kids messing anything up. These same families usually had few toys for the kids, since they didn't want toys messing up the house. And the kids learned not to play with the toys anyway, since we would only be yelled at to clean right up again. So when I babysat, I guess we were just expected to stare at eachother and not touch anything!

Even so, my town also has some old-timer families who are more down to earth, so at least we have a mix. My street is pretty normal, I'm happy to say.
