I think the combination of SNL's 50th Season and the CRAZY election season is going to make for one unforgettable Season!

Maya Rudolph will be regularly appearing as Kamala Harris.

And I am sure all the biggest names will want to Host a show or be the musical act during the 50th.

Buckle up!

I forgot about it being their 50th year. I still remember Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Steve Martin's many guest appearances, etc. Or maybe I should say "I'm Chevy Chase and you're not!" "Jane, you ignorant S***t!", Rose Ann Roseanna Danna, "Foxes!", "Never mind!" I feel so old.

Well, if the bits are well written, there is the potential. But the writing has been sooo bad for sooo long, hopefully they can fulfill the potential.
Of course, 50 years later I am still a little steamed that SNL replaced my favorite show, Weekend with Lloyd Dobbins and Linda Ellerbee.

I'm in my 60's. I remember watching that show in the 70's with Steve Martin as host, Gilda, Jane, Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, etc. They dipped pretty low for a while (the Robert Downey Jr days), then it became amazing with Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Adam Sandler, etc.

My favorite cast was probably during the Kristin Wiig days. OMG, her and Maya!

Hopefully we'll see some great shows in the future!

And the Movie,Saturday Night, about the formation of SNL,will be released in October and that should add even more excitement to Season 50.

2 of my favorites were Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri-THE PERFECT CHEER!lol

I would expect to see a RECORD number of cameos by former Cast this Season-probably multiple for each show.

I remember trying to keep my eyes open staying up late to watch SNL for Mr Bill and Gumby. I was 6yo 😂 We’d watch Love Boat, then Fantasy Island, then SNL would come on and I was so happy to still be up! Then conk out first commercial break.

I forgot about them!!!!! Those skits were hilarious! Wow, where is my brain? I skipped over the Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler era! Thanks for the reminder :D

Fortunately, at least on the West Coast now, you don't have to stay up late anymore. They run SNL twice now, at 830 pm live off the East Coast, and then again at 11:30 pm. At 67 I appreciate being able to watch SNL and be in bed by 10 pm! Plus, if there is a major blooper, you see it live, where as the 1130 pm West Coast version will be censored/edited.

I didn't know about that-sounds great!
I was just thinking about another favorite skit-it was with John Belushi (I think) and Gilda Radner as this really nerdy teen aged couple. He was "Todd" but I can't remember her name. Anyone know who I mean?

Could you be talking about Bill Murray as Todd and Gilda Radner as Lisa Loopner?

Coneheads! 🤩

The 70s were the best: Jane Curtis & Dan Akroyd doing Weekend Update with Gilda coming in as Emily Latella
2 Wild & Crazy Guys
Dan Akroyd as Irwin Mainway selling A Bag o Glass

If they do a show dedicated solely to the 50th anniversary, it will, unfortunately, need to show things from all 50 years, not just the first few years. Still, I hope that Dan Akroyd and Jane Curtin do their Point / Counterpoint sketch. ("Jane, you ignorant sl*t....." LOL)

Bill Murray was funny when he played off other people, like Gilda Radner. By himself, the only thing I can see him doing is his lounge singer act where he sang "Star Wars".

I wonder if they can talk Eddie Murphy into doing his "Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood" sketch.

Believe it or not, I videotaped (yes, videotape....can you believe it?) the SNL 15th anniversary show. I'll have to dig out the tape and watch it again.

Wow.....50 years
I don't watch anymore (I don't stay up that late), but I should record it.
Thanks for posting about it being the shows 50th year

Steve Martin could come back to do Tim Walz skits
It is being reported that Lorne did indeed ask Steve to do that role, but Steve said he is not an "impressionist" and someone else could do a better job.

I think the time commitment would have been a consideration for Steve as well.

Maybe he will host a show-I would think he would have to be near the top of Lorne's wish list.
