Snitching or Giving a Possibly Needed Wake Up Call?

Now that I think of it we had a temp do something similar. He was brought in to take over my ex-managers maternity leave. Our company usually gives us the time between Christmas and New Years off so this temp who was suppose to work until the end of January takes the week before Christmas off as well and then emails saying he isn't coming back after the holidays and count that as his 2 weeks notice. He told another co-worker why he was leaving, I guess I wasn't friendly enough, our manager didn't train him enough before she went on maternity leave and our department as a whole had a mean girls attitude to it. This guy missed a ton of work while he was with us and generally didn't do a great job with his day to day tasks. I often had to fix his mistakes. I was give all his clients for the last month of his contract since he left early and come to find out I should have watched over him even closer. He barely did any work and had not forwarded our high superiors any emails when there were issues and just let them sit there unresolved. Our company just finally got through the mess this guy created in the 2 months he was with us.

He was a really sweet guy but I guess accounts receivable and temp wasn't for him. It was a shame though because if he had actually worked hard the company would have offered him a full time position.

A few days ago, there.were 2 brand new employees for my department.
They stayed for the day and were working.hard. At the end of the day, they composed a 3 page letter with copies of why they would not be returning adding names including my boss on naughty list and examples of poor attitudes and behavior.
Some think they snitched and others think stuff needed to be
opened up.

The only time I have done anything was after being interviewed by a manager, I turned.down the job because.he gave off a vibe that either he was on something or needed to be on something.

Have you had any similar experience?

For me, their observations of one day would count for very little. It's like when you watch a parent/child interaction for 15 seconds at the grocery store and assume that you know whats going on. I'd pretty much dismiss that letter, and assume that they are unprofessional and petty.

I worked 2 consecutive jobs with a lot of entry level employees thrown together. In both cases the existing employees ganged up to harass to new people on day 1. The wild, wild west atmosphere was a huge reason why I left job 1. When I got to job 2 and it happened again. (It was a few hours of HR orientation, followed by meet the new kid lunch, followed by 4 hours of sitting at a desk while I was harassed by 5-6 people.) But the second time around I was just so glad to be out of the first bad environment that I just ignored them, did my work, and eventually the ring leader made enough mistakes that I was able to document that he was fired. A new ring leader rose up and was eventually fired too when some new people complained. If it were to happen again at another job, and I wasn't completely desperate for the money, I'd probably just speak up that first week too and get out of there. Many companies with a lot of lower tier employees are completely out of touch with what really goes on and many in upper management are afraid to interact with their own masses. It's easy to blame high turn over on the people who are leaving, so if they get a letter like the one described, I'd hope that they'd look into it. Maybe in this case they 2 who left on the same day were sent in write that report because some other new employee had said something more discreetly.

It is only snitching, ratting, whatever, if you are part of a conspiracy and are ratting out other conspirators to get a lesser punishment.

They were hired at a job fair, I work in the hospitality industry.

Not every company runs the same in aspect of first day spent filling out paperwork, with a tour, etc.
At this particular company, you fill out a packet usually the day you interview and get hired.

I read the letter and most of it was about the person they were with stupid enough to tell them how NOT to work hard, hide, etc

Other things about being disorganized, have to agree with that, but it is getting better.

Other things, if they knew each aspect of the department, which would take more then one day, it would make more sense of what.they encountered.

A couple things. at least one thing as I was around to hear during unpaid lunch things were left out or twisted.

They were hired for entry level and in the letter, they conveyed if they were supervisors, they could make a positive change.

Different people have different ideas of what snitching means..They ran their mouths, some things were true, others not whether it was from not understanding how the department sections worked or by twisting stuff.

The atmosphere if these 2 college kids were in charge, they would not be respected or listened to.

If the GM tried to Undercover Boss, he went to a lot of trouble, all he has to do is go out onto the property and see what may or may not go on.
